He's sadly a Gopher fan. He's not well-liked on GPL either.

Uh-huh... I'll give you credit for a good try there... ;)

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

I can't spread rep, but even though you're not one of us...you alright. Even if we disagree on some things.

Yeah, we're good.

I really don't take very many (any?) disagreements personally and can often agree to disagree.

I even like Slap Shot and he's been downright salty towards me from time to time. :D

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

I will say my peace on this subject:

First, I will fully admit I have a bias. I have a distrust of police based on personal experience and what I see in the media. I'm not proud of it and I try to get past it.

Second, there's an assumption of racism in these cases because there are countless studies and piles of anecdotal evidence to indicate that the actions of police officers are vastly different towards black vs white. It is real and it is prevelant. It may not intended as racism, but it is. Whether we like or not, when a white police officer kills a black person race is a factor that must be considered. To assume race is not a factor unless proven otherwise is to blindly ignore a systemic problem in our society.

The main thing I will say though is this: I fully agree that the majority of cops are good. The problem is, that those good cops and their departments do nothing to rid themselves of the bad ones and spend too much time attempting to fight and blame those who do. Look at the reactions by the unions in St. Louis and Cleveland when the various NFL players took protest actions, demanding apologies and calling them "inciteful". Look at the reactions in NYC, the unions are saying that Mayor De Blasio, President Obama, AG Eric Holder are all to blame. It's sickening. They show no remorse towards a person dying. No sympathy to the families of victims. They allow environments to exist where if a person does try to do something about bad cops, they are ostracized, called a rat, and either fired or forced to quit because of the abuse. They talk of the threats to officers safety yet offer no support to measures to help such as gun control. They actively fight against measures like cameras and civilian complaint boards. They have made getting a bad cop punished one of the hardest things in the world.

The first step that has to happen for anything to change is that the good cops need to come out and speak out against these incidents and be willing to make changes to the system. Until then, the bad cops will continue to rule the day.

Frankly I'm now done with this thread. I firmly believe that none of you on the other side of this arguement will ever be able gain perspective and show empathy towards what it is like for a person of color to interact with police. Because of that, any further discussion of this subject is pointless.

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

SteveP has. With you it's the Garner thing. Sorry I don't think you victim blamed the Cleveland kid so I apologize for lumping you in with him for that.

Really *****hat? I'm trying to enjoy the joy of the Christmas season, but enough if enough.

This is the ONLY thing that I have written about the Cleveland incident. Nothing I wrote blamed the victim or exonerated the officer, so why don't you just shut the F up? And have a Merry Christmas, troll.

You've never been in a potential life or death situation, have you? Seconds could mean not going home at the end of your shift.

I'm not putting you in this boat, but Brad Thor hit the nail on the head:

Brad Thor (BradThor):
We should have the hashtag #armchairpatrolofficer for some of the astoundingly uninformed nonsense people Tweet about cops and police work.

But anyone's personal experiences that make them distrust other people (again based on personal experience) are somehow irrelevant or a sign of racism?

On on the same side, I don't think any of you will ever have any clue or empathy for what cops have to put up with and deal with all day, every day - and 99.9999% in a non-violent way.

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

While I dont think race is worth discussing in these cases cause killing is wrong all the way around, just like it is ok to discuss the actions of the victim as a mitigating factor it is ok to discuss race as a factor as well. You can't widen or broaden the scope just because it might prove unsavory for your side.

Outside of Ferguson I think the cops in these cases are wrong and should be punished. I dont care about their race or the race of the victim. In Ferguson the DA should be nailed by the Justice Department for what he admitted to doing at the Grand Jury, not because he is a white guy who helped white cops.

Ultimately, the cops need better training and to be better protected. The more the citizens fear/hate cops along with cops fearing for their lifes (and acting without fear of punishment) the more it is a powder keg. Add in everyone having automatic weapons and itchy trigger fingers and you are a whisper away from what we have now. Too many people on both sides making mistakes and taking lives.

If all these criminals dropped anything they were holding and laid on the ground, asphalt, etc facedown they'd be alive today.

Canadian man tries to suicide by cop, but Canadian police don't accommodate him, so he tries his luck with the US Border Patrol..

The man also allegedly had a run-in with police in Windsor, Ontario right before the incident on the bridge.

Windsor police said that officers arrived at a parking lot around 2:40 a.m. where the suspect got out of his vehicle with what appeared to be a firearm in his hand, the Windsor Star reported. Officers ordered him to drop the weapon as he walked toward a McDonald's. The suspect then turned to point the weapon at the officers and reportedly asked them "Why haven't you shot me yet?"

The suspect then got into his vehicle and drove over a curb before officers could get back into their vehicle to follow him, according to the Windsor Star.

He was shot in the arm but was not killed.

Slain NYPD officer Rafael Ramos has a son at Bowdoin College. The college will pick up the tab for the rest of his education.

BRUNSWICK, Maine — The son of one of two New York City police officers killed Saturday night in Brooklyn is a freshman at Bowdoin College.

Barry Mills, president of the college, informed the family of student Justin Ramos on Sunday morning that the college would provide full financial aid to enable Ramos to complete his Bowdoin education.

In a post on the college’s Facebook page, Mills urged respect for the family’s privacy in the wake of the “unspeakable tragedy.”

“We are a very close community, and we share in Justin’s pain and anguish,” Mills wrote. “I know you join me in offering heartfelt condolences to Justin and the entire Ramos family, and I am sure you will respect their privacy as they and we support one another in the days and weeks ahead.”

Nope, there's no victim blaming going on at all...

Obviously there's sarcasm in this post, but you should see the comments on Fox Snooze threads... I'm beginning to see merit in the huff's claims that Fox Snooze watchers are braindead.

Just now?

Lol.

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

Even if you believe in the death penalty for certain crimes(treason, murder, a few dollars in unpaid taxes, etc), I think we can all agree that at least that decision should be made by someone impartial with greater qualifications than a C average in high school and a desire to be an ******* professionally.
