At Least We Have the World Jrs. During Break

Re: At Least We Have the World Jrs. During Break

You provided USA Hockey numbers. It is WIDELY known that not all hockey players in this country are registered with USA Hockey. Any Minnesotan here can verify that our high school players are not. And when Minnesota Hockey votes to pull its Mites and Squirts out of USA Hockey this weekend, I would be happy to provide you with documentation of that. However, I am not involved in youth hockey in other states, and wouldn't even know where to begin looking for that documentation.

It came up in our recent discussions that other states have pulled their Mites out of USA Hockey, and that is why Minnesota Hockey is having these discussions. Hockey is expensive enough, and with the fees USA Hockey charges, and the proposed changes to the frequency of recertification for coaches, some states have decided that having their younger players register with USA Hockey isn't worth it. There are no national tournaments for those levels, and there really aren't any other benefits to having those kids register.
Why would they pull out of USA Hockey?

Re: At Least We Have the World Jrs. During Break

Fact remains, Hockey Canada's VP estimates youth enrollment in Canada will decine by 200,000 by 2020.

Canada Hockey is on the decline.

Deal with it. :)

Dubber for a guy who dosen't give a **** about Canada you seem to be spending an inordinate time here posting nonsense. There is no sense arguing with you. Your ignorance about Canada and Canadian hockey literally makes my eyes bleed. I checked your sources and one was from a right wing USA wing nut website. What would they know about Canadian hockey? Forty years ago we were told the Russians would over take us....still waiting for that. In 1980 after the Lake Placid Olympics were told watchout the Americans will eclispe us. The gold medal was going to push untold thousands of US boys into hockey. It caused a bump but not much else. For decades we have been looking at the USA as our next rival but for some reason you just can't be consistent. We may not win every year but every year we're in the hunt....And anyone with any hockey sense would tell you that if international hockey was a 70 plus season with 7 game playoff formats....that Team Canada would be the greatest dynasty in sports. You may by virtue of a greater population end up having more players involved in hockey but its a stretch to think that will translate into success on ice. Don't expect Canada to go quietly into the night.

He is not Hockey Canada's VP....far from it. He is VP of media relations and the privacy officer for a satelite office in Ottawa. Hockey Canada's main office is in Calgary and the President is Bob Nicholson and I have never heard Bob say anything about declining enrollments. I suspect those in Canada who have an agenda about hockey violence have pulled this guys name because his title does say VP and he is in the Ottawa office which is Canada's capital and it lends an air of legitmacy. In fact as I stated he is a minor official in a regional office. He is also a police officer who's main job is to investigate privacy issues.

Nothing like cherry picking facts. Even ifit were true you would never EVER hear anyone from Hockey Canada issue a statement like that just as USA Hockey would do likewise. They are there to sell the game.

Re: At Least We Have the World Jrs. During Break

Because there is zero benefit to having them register. The states and districts don't see anything for the money except a monthly newsletter.

For the same reason Hockey Canada does not register individuals over 20 anymore playing in non competetive leagues.

I certainly would love to see that documentation. I am also almost certain that no state has pulled their youth programs from USA Hockey and the figures I gave indeed show a net decline of male youth hockey players in the U.S. This really should not come as a shock to you....if you ever listen to or hear any Junior or college coaches, they will tell you that youth registration is stagnant while male registration is declining.

So blood actually came out of your eyes? Wow.

They did. I don't know why more states haven't already. There really is no point to having them register. Literally all you get for your registration is a monthly newsletter.

USA Hockey needs to put a little less money into the NTDP and a little more into youth programs. Start with some checking and safety clinics. Provide some assistance to underprivileged players. All things left up to the states and districts to do on their own right now. Which is fine, but then kids shouldn't be paying USA Hockey a registration fee at these ages for what is almost literally nothing in return.

And jnacc - The fact that you say you are "almost certain" something didn't happen that I am 100% certain did happen confirms to me that you have no clue what you are talking about.

I wish I had some documented evidence to show you, but there is no way you can be "almost certain" without seeing evidence to the contrary and I know that doesn't exist.

States are not forced to register players with USA Hockey. That is common knowledge. Or at least to those who are involved in youth hockey.

I have enough involvement with youth hockey to know that you get a little more from USA Hockey than a newsletter, such as insurance rates and the ability to participate in USA Hockey sanctioned tournaments and events.....as for other states pulling out, sorry but it didn't happen! I'll wait for your "documentation" to prove otherwise but something tells me It would be a shorter wait for the 2nd coming of Christ than receiving verifiable proof from you.

A monthly newsletter, and insurance. But we can save $27 a player getting insurance elsewhere. USA Hockey doesn't have national tournaments at these levels, and our kids have plenty of in-state tournament opportunities. The national tournaments is the ONLY reason we aren't talking about pulling out our Pewees and Bantams. You clearly don't know much.

Minnesota hockey has asked USA Hockey to lower their fees for coaching modules (among other things) and to not raise their fees for player registration. USA Hockey is meeting in Miami this week to discuss changes for this year. If they don't make the requested changes, Minnesota Hockey will pull their Mites and Squirts (60% of registered players).

And I'm really sorry that the fact that youth hockey is growing is such a disappointment to you, but it's a reality you're going to have to get used to.

Good luck getting insurance elsewhere at a cheaper price.....good luck getting into nationally recognized tournaments like the silver sticks....good luck working out liability costs with out of state teams when yours are not registered. No other state has pulled their associations out of USA Hockey and I would be shocked if Minnesota in fact does it....of course I don't believe they will.

As for youth registration, believe what you want...some people enjoy their own reality.....but reality is saying something completely different. At least USA Hockey is not in denial and is trying to do something about it.

Don't worry about us. We won't be the first.

We've done our homework.
