At least seven killed at Fort Hood

Re: At least seven killed at Fort Hood

Not at all, I'm not the one out of power. :p

When you get to the point of deconstructing every nuance, pause and expression to find further proof of The Great Conspiracy, you're into fantasyland. The guy's not going to do or say anything that you won't find some way to fault. We all do it, fine, but don't pretend it's real.

And that reference to Bush? It was to admit I do the same thing -- in fact exactly the opposite of what you took it for (an attack on you). So you proved the point far better than anything else I can write.

I'm neither in nor out of "power," you obviously have a different view. Congratulations, I hope you use it wisely. I've made no reference here or elsewhere or ever about any kind of conspiracy, great or small. Truth is, I've not criticized Dear Leader on a variety of subjects, but what's the difference?

I may be in Fantasyland, but in your world, evidently, Barack Obama is above criticism on any subject, by anybody, ever. And any violation of that dictum is "unreal."

You're in high dudgeon, slinging around your typical non sequitors, acting like the judge in a high school debate and always, always, changing the subject.
I'm sorry I'm too "stupid" and probably "smug" to see the artistic nuance of your argument, which, come to find out is self-criticism. Do tell. And that "you're making my argument for me" gambit is getting old, too. Why not just climb down off the cross and explain it to us mortals simply and directly?

the White House has had a real tin ear on this one. the Bushes visited the base but didn't allow photos. Obama has gone to play golf at Camp David. White House press office - what's wrong with this picture? what are you guys thinking. we really do need someone to feel our pain.

And old smug and stupid has found time to visit the troops. But the president has other, more pressing matters, on his agenda. I'm sure he'll get around to it. Where's Kanye West when you really need him?

I think you've made your point.

I didin't find it off-putting that Obama addressed for up to 3 entire minutes a group that had already gathered and was waiting to hear from him. Others disagree, arguing that he should have blown off the obligation and just read a prepared statement. That's fine.

But there's no need to bring GWB into this. Not unless you're willing to account for every minute the guy spent in <s>Waco</s> Crawford during his 8 years. Then we can make a comparison. :)

Re: At least seven killed at Fort Hood

It's not like Bush had to go terribly far out of his way to visit. His ranch in Crawford is probably less than an hour away from Fort Hood, and his other home in Dallas is less than 3 hours away.

Maybe you should compare rounds of golf

Please read all of the relevant posts. I merely offered muted criticism of Obama for offering a "shout out" to Chief Nokahoma rather than opening with remarks about the shootings at Fort Hood. Obligation? What are you talking about? He was there, wasn't he? He'd fulfilled his "obligation." And if he chose to begin his remarks by talking about the outrage at Fort Hood, who would criticize him? Chief Thunderthud? They were "waiting" for him? Who cares, he's POTUS, he can do what he wants.

And in suggesting that I shouldn't bring Bush into this (which I didn't do) you offer the obligatory "Bush goofed off at Crawford" defense, just to make sure we all know that "Bush was worse, and it's all Bush's fault." Got it.

I didn't bring up "smug" and "stupid" Bush. My criticsim suggested that neither Reagan nor Clinton would have dropped the ball here. Others sought to make this another chorus of "Bush is worse, it's Bush's fault." Not me.

Ah, the "Bush is worse, it's all Bush's fault AND he's closer defense." This is a president who arranged a quick trip to Europe to lobby for the Chicago olympics (which I supported) but he can't order AF1 to head to Texas? Please.

Re: At least seven killed at Fort Hood

and who chose to go to rally the Democratic "troops" on health care rather that attend the launching of the USS New York.

sorry, guys, but our President needs to act more like a President and less like a candidate.

I thought I was agreeing with you. I didn't realize early on that Obama gaffed in the eyes of some because I'm completely tone-deaf to those sort of symbolic politics. I don't look to the President for comfort or reassurance when bad things happen. I just don't. Maybe later on, when it comes time to decide what sort of policy changes are called for, if any.

I really should know better, though. It wasn't that long ago that George and Laura Bush went to Blacksburg to sit in on the . . . umm . . . whatever VaTech called that rally they held after the massacre. And it mattered to people that he was there. So I should know that I'm probably in the minority on this sort of thing.

My point was: if you've got a criticism to make against Obama, make it. No need to drag Bush into it. That's just a sideshow.

Full disclosure: I don't think Bush's extended trips back to Crawford made him a lousy president. I don't think his own tone-deaf response to events made him a lousy president. I linked the infamous golf vid to tease walrus.

I think Bush was a lousy President because he was a lousy president. And a lousy Republican, also.

What did I say that in any remote way could possibly insinuate that Bush is worse or anything was Bush's fault? Bush lives right there and likely doesn't have anything else going on, so he could immediately make a visit. Obama isn't in the immediate area and is probably busy as the current President, so he's attending the memorial service on Tuesday.

You really seem to have some serious issues.

You bet your azz I've "got issues!" I've got issues with people (you included, evidently) who cannot tolerate any criticism, no matter how mild, of Obama. So the fact that a former president has found time to visit with the victims and the current president has not, in your mind, becomes a AAA issue, to be sorted out by a travel agent. He could have gone to Fort Hood Thursday afternoon if he'd wanted to (I'm not suggesting that he should), there are very few restrictions on what and where and when a president can travel. He's "probably busy as the current President," eh, doing what, exactly?

Let me explain it to you: the "Bush was worse, it's Bush's fault" is my sarcastic response to folks who find themselves compelled to defend Obama at all costs, every time, about everything. You just added another layer of defense, proximity.

I doubt you can tease me about Bush, he sucked . I don't see Obama as any better, the change you can believe in has quickly turned into" business as usual"

I may not agree with what they are proposing but I sure think they need to do something. If that means trying to get folks to work together than I am OK with that. I don't see how that is acting like a candidate, that is the job- getting stuff passed. IMHO trying to get healthcare straightened out is a bit more important than watching a ship slide down the runway. If he was doing something stupid like taking a vacation then I would be offended.

All this stuff is semantics. I agree with who ever said that getting stuff done is more important than all the posturing and what posturing is more important. Maybe we need to have a figurehead like Queen Elizabeth II- she cuts ribbons, looks decorative and ralllies the populace while the politicos do their thing.

Obama would be good at that:p

I might be way off base here but with all the stuff they were trying to figure out wouldn't a visit be detrimental? If they are scrambling around trying to piece things together and then they need to scramble for his security I would think that would be a nightmare.
