At least seven killed at Fort Hood

Re: At least seven killed at Fort Hood

I have a problem attributing any motives to someone until they put all the pieces together.

Totally agree. Don't want to accidentally tar an entire class of people just because of the way things appear to be - take, for instance, the guy in Kentucky whose death was quickly blamed on intolerant right-wing redneck extremists, and it turned out the guy probably hung himself.

Of course, now they're saying he was shouting Allahu Akbar (God is Great) during the act, so...

Re: At least seven killed at Fort Hood

What kind of an ***** idiot uses this tragedy to make political points against a party? Anybody who does that needs to figure out why they're so angry at life. The "story" here is some guy snapped and killed people. It isn't any more political than the tragedy at VT, McDonalds in San Diego 25 years ago, or any other incident like this.

Oh, it will be political. No question about that.

Re: At least seven killed at Fort Hood

Two suspects caught, one still at large. Usually it seems like these things are done by lone gunmen, I can't recall anywith multiple shooters.

cnn says the 'sole suspect is in custody'. so were the reports of multiple gunmen wildly inaccurate?

The media overreacting and racing to spew out inaccurate "information" without verifying it first? Say it ain't so, Joe. :rolleyes: ;)

The original reports from all the networks also said the primary gunman was dead and one of the MPs was dead. All of that, AFAIK, proved wrong.

Re: At least seven killed at Fort Hood

I believe they held two or three other people briefly - they were running from the scene - thinking they might be involved. They were released.
Obviously this guy was deranged.
My question - he had poor performance reports, incidents involving patients, was on radical websites and mouthed off about the country and its policies.
Why the **** was he still in the Army? And about to be deployed?
My fear is he was given a pass because of political correctness. I hope hope hope this isn't true.

I was wondering the same thing. Generally if you want out of the military it's not really difficult, especially if you have poor reviews. My guess is that the military may have either ignored his requests because of his medical training, or he didn't express his desire to leave to the right people in his chain of command. The fact he came to the attention of law enforcement months ago for some of his internet postings should have been a really big red flag for CID or the chain.

Re: At least seven killed at Fort Hood

no you don't... reports are he was quite devoted and lets remember what Islam says is ok versus what is not OK... just because this is America and just because he's spent his life in American culture does not mean he cannot be a religious psycho.

If this guy were Christian and with the regularity he's supposedly attends mosque every day he would be considered some form of Christian fundamentalist and they would be working that angle. The Washington Post is already detailing his level of devotion to Islam.

While I'm sure he's probably not fundamentalist in the sense that he'd like his women dressed up in the mobile prison unit we all know as the burka he's definitely shown concern about those Muslims in their fight and struggle against their American oppressors.

Its likely religion in relation to dictates on Jihad likely played a strong role in the process of him believing that going to war against his own country was the right thing to do.

I expect this story to become very quiet after this week and we'll only hear about it in passing.

Everything I have read so far (and granted, being on the west coast I haven't had a chance to read anything overnight, so I may be behind on that) has not shown anything in relation to his religion behind why he did what he did. Being Muslim and then going psycho doesn't translate into going Muslim psycho, just as being Christian or Jewish and then suddenly snapping and going psycho doesn't mean Christian or Jewish psycho. Now granted, if this Allah Akbar stuff in these stories pans out, that changes quite a bit, but what it was sounding like previously was that this *** really didn't want to be deployed and decided to avoid it in the most horrendous way possible.

ART. 118. MURDER

Any person subject to this chapter whom without justification or excuse, unlawfully kills a human being, when he--

(1) has a premeditated design to kill;

(2) intends to kill or inflict great bodily harm;

(3) is engaged in an act which is inherently dangerous to others and evinces a wanton disregard of human life; or

(4) is engaged in the perpetration or attempted perpetration of burglary, sodomy, rape, robbery, or aggravated arson;

is guilty of murder, and shall suffer such punishment as a court-martial may direct, except that if found guilty under clause (1) or (4), he shall suffer death or imprisonment for life as a court-martial may direct.

Odds on the firing squad?

Re: At least seven killed at Fort Hood

It has to do with the President showing the proper decorum when told of a national tragedy and not acting like a dooshnozzle instead.

Knock it the * off. Leave the politics out of this thread. If you want to start a thread that berates the POTUS for his decorum in response to this ordeal, go ahead. It's a national tragedy that over a dozen of our finest were killed, and I really don't feel like wading through your BS to read/comment on it.

I think it was Red Cloud that mentioned they have executed anyone since the early 60s, so I'd say given that the odds would be low (though this mentions 9 people on death row http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/us-military-death-penalty). Of course, has anyone since then murdered so many people?

Well, pure speculation here, but if he did what we think he did, he's got the first 3 covered. I'm guessing a date with the needle.

I say put him in a maximum security federal pound-him-in-the-arse prison for life. I'd rather get the needle than deal with a large inmate named Tiny for the rest of my life.
