I start a new job on Tuesday; DSP for a different agency.

I don't mind the pay cut, or the fact I start at part time (with the opportunity to pick up extra shifts).

After what happened with my previous employer, it's a good opportunity to start fresh somewhere else.

Congratulations on your new job! Starting a business is a significant endeavor, and it's fantastic to hear that your venture is gaining popularity. Utilizing tools like slack sms to enhance communication and collaboration within your team is a smart move. As your business continues to grow, effective communication will play a crucial role in its success. Wishing you continued success and fulfillment in your entrepreneurial journey! If you ever need any advice or support along the way, feel free to reach out.

So I applied for four jobs last weekend. Three of them kinda gimmies (I'm overqualified for them, but it might not be bad to take a step back for a year or two). One I was a decent fit for, until I learned through a former colleague who works there that the job is not IT as I assumed. It's a manager position of process improvement analysts for the patient access organization within the hospital system. I mean, if they want a manager who can analyze workflows, sure. But if they want someone with a history in patient access? Nope.

But I heard back from one of the gimmies, and denied. That's ok, it was for a very large for-profit national hospital system that I really don't know if I want to work for anyway. But I also heard back from the probably-not-a-great-fit company asking for an interview. So... yay? The job requires minimal onsite work, maybe one day per week, sometimes two. And the office is quite literally 4 minutes down the road. 6 with traffic. Being mostly remote is a requirement for me, but this seems pretty easy to manage.

Today helped reinforce my decision to look elsewhere. We have too many in upper management who know absolutely nothing about the Epic system, constantly overruling the actual Epic-knowledgeable people. "I know better" is, perhaps, the most idiotic and poisonous trait a leader can have, yet here we are. So I need to get out.

December 2022: internship was terminated at Spectrum Community Services. Denver University and my supervisor acted mercifully to get me out of a rough situation and bring me back to life. I would withdraw from Denver a few weeks later.
January 2024: after a short interview with Spectrum Community Services for their residential programs on January 2, I signed a conditional offer and today, I had orientation for my new position. Part time to begin with, but I have plenty of opportunities to pick up shifts and become full time after 12 weeks.

Nice! Good luck!

My former employer posted some jobs on linked in today.

the picture they used? A woman I hired, that was laid off a few months ago.

guess they’ve laid off so many, they can’t clean up marketing materials fast enough

Try not to laugh - SNL

Sometimes you just need to take a break and laugh. Perhaps if I were on this show I'd try harder to compete, but the majority of these I didn't make it very far without laughing. And Sudekis in the track suit for What's Up With That gets me every time.

Interview scheduled for next week! Just a half hour with the hiring manager, so I'd imagine there would be subsequent rounds if this goes well. I still don't know if I'm what they're looking for but we'll see.

Best of luck!

my wife accepted one of her two offers. Took a hit on benefits to get out. But we're considering cobra for a couple months to maintain one of the benefits. Probably worth the expense on a pure dollars standpoint.

otherwise she took a 2% pay cut but only if she works that company's standard 32-hour workweek. If she picks up her Fridays it will be a win. But since she's a licensed therapist it's mentally draining doing 40s. Guess we'll see what happens in practice.

I'm also seeing some of the consequences of the MN sick leave law. Seems like more and more small employers are taking the opportunity to change PTO to be a completely different and not entirely good format. This place has sick pay but no vacation now. From what I understand, this seems to be somewhat in line with other medical professions where if you don't work, you don't get paid.

I'm not far from just walking away from my job without a landing spot. It's ridiculous and I'm being held accountable for things I have zero ability to impact.

I am an application manager. Those applications live on servers. The servers are refusing connection. The server teams and security teams are just pointing fingers at each other, meanwhile our overall leadership is leaning on me to fix things. Neither of the other teams involved work for me.

Integrated testing is delayed because applications aren't working, because of these connectivity issues. Which is apparently my fault.

I’m half expecting to be no-bonused and put on a PIP this year. My team missed our goals badly. This is after me absolutely crushing all goals for the last 15 years. The misses were caused primarily by a few decisions made by my immediate managers. I argued as loudly as I could against these changes but got overruled. You’d think they’d remember that but so far it looks like they’re going to line up and kick me in the nuts. We’ll see.

And the sad part is that your manager will probably get all of their bonuses.

I could type more, but suffice it to say, I'm more glad to have reached retirement.

I'm convinced Global Nuclear War could break out and we'd still have to go to work.

"Boss, an airstrike blew up the freeway."

"But you didn't show up for your shift, so I'm going to have to mark you a no call, no show. See that it doesn't happen again."

Obviously, you need to have your performance improved!

Not exactly work but it is soccer refereeing:

I’m about to decline working the rest of the youth indoor season after one day because they’re using the stupidest set up I’ve ever seen.

Anchorage has a large inflated dome with a full size soccer field and a six lane track. The field can be played and is marked as a full field, divided into three thirds or a 2/3rds size with a 1/3rd size field for the youngest age groups. The 2/3rds and 1/3rds setup was used for over decade in this youth league, worked perfectly.

This year? Clubs want to make more money so they switch to dividing it into two fields and use cones for markings. It’s the worst f-ing setup I’ve ever seen, nobody knew what the markings were, even me. I already told the assignor that I’m out. Not enough money to deal with this BS.

The layoffs met their Cost Control targets.

Woof. Screw that. Basically a field full of rakes and you're sideshow bob

Without cheating, who said this?

"Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if Labor had not first existed. Labor is superior to capital, and deserves much the higher consideration"
