An 'Honest" Conversation About Race? Just Give Me My Coffee!

Re: An 'Honest" Conversation About Race? Just Give Me My Coffee!

Oof. I woke up this on Facebook.

Someone posted a news story about an anonymous $1m donations to the Science Museum.

First comment from one of her friends:
Pretty bland last week when we went there. They even had a "race" exhibit. Screamed whiteman bad🤮. Body worlds was cool though
just the displays i noticed in the race exhibit. Such as a street sign that stated "privilege way", painting of the white men screwing over the natives and minorities etc etc.
I love being white
i do not care who you are. If you are a Great American I'm cool with ya
I guess I don't understand on what side of the fence you're picking here but there's plenty equal to opportunities for all of us
yup. I am just sick of all the race ****. Can't we all just be civilised.
seems to me like there's a lot more racism against whites than anybody nowadays so calm your ****
dude. I'm a Trump supporter, white Jew *** with a bi-racial son. I'm the most hated man in liberal side of America😆
But now I guess I should rewind my remark because I just seen your hat LOL rock on bro

So, what's the best way to complement Booker on his intelligence? Is there a way? Or is that just a minefield as well?

"cory, you sure don't say dumb chit like joe over there"

The replies are awesome.

Re: An 'Honest" Conversation About Race? Just Give Me My Coffee!

So, I haven't seen this thread before, but NYT has an interesting story about how black people are getting HAMMERED by Covid in NY, NOLA, Detroit, Milwaukee, and Chicago - roughly 25% of population, and 70% of Covid cases.
I'm just asking the questions:
Do black people more commonly have the ACE2 gene alternate (not sure if that's anywhere near the correct way to put it) which makes people more susceptible?
Do black people have higher rates of obesity and asthma?
Do black people have higher poverty rates that push them into mass transit and crowded housing?
Are black people more likely to work in jobs (housekeeping, fast food, gas stations, etc) which expose them to Covid? What comes to mind is that I'm pretty sure the dude tweeting from his corona-yacht in "isolation" in the Caribbean was a white guy.

Re: An 'Honest" Conversation About Race? Just Give Me My Coffee!

We would need the cross-tabs by race and wealth.

My default assumption is always poverty. Poverty kills in all sorts of ways (lack of access to competent medical facilities, lack of information, lack of choices in general, poorer diet, greater stress, likelihood of exacerbating medical history). And we color-code our poor, just to be funny!

It could be genetic like sickle-cell, but unless there's compelling evidence I'm going to go with the old American stand-by: murder by laissez faire.

Just looking at statewide obesity, poverty rate, there is almost zero correlation. But if you look at Gini vs cases and deaths, there's a much stronger relationship.
