Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

Let's talk about the greatest rivalry in college hockey!!

Pardon me, but I am down on the DU/CC rivalry lately.

DU fans won't want to hear this, but it needs to be said. DU has beaten teams like North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin with great regularity in recent years, but the DU record against CC since destroying the Tigers in the 2005 NCAA semi finals is simply dreadful. DU has failed to muster the smarts, skills and willpower to take the Gold Pan back for years now. For rivalries to work well, they simply cannot be one-sided or they die. CC's outstanding record at Magness Arena is a stain on the DU program that must be rectified. Add to that the greed of DU to often schedule this first CC game on the DU student break and deprive DU students of this key rivalry - this situation is grossly unfair to the University community.

Right now, DU's best rivalry is with North Dakota, because both teams care enough about it to show up and play their best hockey. That is no longer the case with CC - DU in recent years, tends to be unprepared for CC, and often, plays poorly instead of at their best.

I wish it were different, but until the DU team starts to take this rivalry as seriously as CC does, DU fans will continue to be disappointed. We can shout 1957 all we want, but at the end of the day, DU needs to start beating CC now.

Swami's right and there's no time like the present to stop talking rivalry and start playing like it.

When Bill McCartney was coaching at CU, he wanted the game against Nebraska to be a rivalry. His career record against the Huskers? 1-12-1. Big deal.

It's okay Swami Man. I think our record is way better when you're feeling down. :D

You're right it's been a wicked drought. CC's record at the Cement dumb is less than stellar this year. I'm thinking George has been working the boys hard this week and they are fully aware of the drought. That and coming off of the less than inspired loss Saturday they should be bringing a serious game face. Chevy (as I believe you already said) is the one with the power to turn this thing around.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

DU's record against CC in the last 3 years: 1-7-4.

Winning once every three years against CC is simply not acceptable.

Rivalries do have a tendency to be one sided every once in a while. You guys have certainly been on the other side of it. I am hoping this current trend continues.

I don't know Swami, even though it is true we have done terribly against CC in the past few years, there is still something special about this rivalry. Think of the all time record, 152-106-13 in favor of DU! Who can forget 2005, when they had such a good team and we beat them 6-2 in the FF  The atmosphere at the games, the roar of the crowd when we score, "the banner" in the mid 80s, Paukovichs' quote. Even when we both sucked the games were awesome!! Come on Swami, poor stretch or not, this rivalry is alive and well!!

Thank You!!

I do have a method here - I want the current DU players and program to know that the last three years of crap CC series performances are totally unacceptable to the DU fan base, given the otherwise fine performances DU has generated against other highly ranked programs. We know DU have the talent to beat CC, but the heart, smarts and preparation needed in this series has not been enough to over come CC's heart, smarts and preparation in recent years.

DU needs to put more emphasis on the importance of winning against CC, and they need to perform at a much higher level than 1-7-4 in the last three years. I don't see the Tigers ever catching up with us over the long term of the series, becuase DU was solid for so many years when CC was mostly down in the 60s, 70s and 80s. That said, past is past. I love history as much as the next person, but DU can simply not tolerate the substandard recent performances against CC.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

There are mitigating factors at play with the DU-CC rivalry. Playing each other in the last week of the regular season when one or both of the teams have serious NCAA & Final 5 possibilities diminishes the rivalry, as does playing the games when DU students are at home.

That being said, it should be a great series this weekend and we'll see if DU really does step it up against elite opponents as opposed to playing down to SCSU, OSU & UAA in recent weeks. Make no mistake, CC is an elite opponent this season. They are doing all the little things right.

Wiercioch named to Team Canada WJC roster

NOTE: The USA and Team Canada rosters are preliminary and the final rosters will be set after the training camps and exhibition games right before the tourney starts. The USA camp starts Dec. 17th in Grand Forks. The Team Canada camp begins Dec. 12th. That is the final game against UMD in Duluth. Looks like Patrick will miss the UMD series and if he makes the team, the Denver Cup. The tourney end Jan. 5th and DU plays UAA at home beginning on Jan. 8th so he could play against UAA. Donovan if he makes the team would miss the Denver Cup.

3 collegians--Wiercioch, Harvard's LaBlanc and tUMD's Dylan Olsen, although he is listed as a Camrose Kodiak.

For USA make that 18 as Justin Faulk is a UMD recruit and Jon Merrill is a Michigan recruit.

Congrats on Beau Bennett, some SCSU fans wanted this kid bad.

Huge, huge signing for DU. DU's been after him for some time. This is on the level of getting Kyle Ostrow, Tyler Bozak, Connor James or Gabe Gauthier. Maybe a notch below signing Colborne who was probably the biggest recruit we landed in the modern era.

He played in the World Junior A Tournament and scored 4 goals in 5 games for Team USA against some of the best players in the would who play Junior Hockey.

Heisenberg has him as a 2010.What's the book on him?

Heisenberg doesn't have him as 2010 now. He is coming to DU next year. DG and I have been keeping tabs on this kid for about 6 months and he will probably post a lot of info on him in the blog. He is from the Penticton Vees in the BCHL and is the 4th leading scorer in the league with 52 points in 27 games (22 g, 30 a). He is from Gardena, CA and just turned 18. According to the WCH blog, CC was also in the running for him.

Bennett's Profile

Interesting that the 6 recruits that DU has coming in the next 3 years so far are all Americans with 5 playing for U.S. based teams in AAA or the USHL including the USNDPT.
