Bump!! Things are getting a little slow over on the other thread. I don't trust those guys, I think they're sandbagging. ST. Cloud could definitely spoil the high we're on right now. They've got some serious forwards. What about in net, don't they have some highly recruited rookie goalie?

It certainly isn't DU. :) I mean, our highly touted rookie goalie isn't yet ready for prime time.

Neither is Lee at this point in the season...
From watching the UND/SCSU series, Dunn is a better goalie for them right now, but Motzko appears to want to give Lee starts for experience.

Both SCSU goaltenders have good stats from what i can see, but they are not getting enough scoring from their second line to win the close games.

With the new rules this year concerning the TV timeouts, programs like SCSU & CC should be doing much better because you don't need as much depth and only need to rely on two lines to provide the bulk of the scoring. Obviously CC is rolling and SCSU is still struggling.

One problem that appears to be league wide is that no one is scoring 5 on 5. No goals were scored 5 on 5 in the DU-UND series.

Dubie's Ak Bars Kazan KHL Russian Hockey Jersey is being auctioned on e-bay....Pretty rare and cool...

http://cgi.ebay.com/Ak-Bars-Kazan-R...6QQcategoryZ37757QQcmdZViewItem#ht_1771wt_975

It now resides in London..in safe hands, (probably should go to the DU hockey team, in due course).

It joins my meagre collection of memorabilia:
a baseball( under glass) signed by all of 'the 1954 ny giants',
a few unused du hockey tickets from the 1960s,
an awful lot of photos taken at DU beer parties featuring glass eating (of the light bulb variety) canadian hockey players (was everyone from saskatoon?), and Peter Sellers' tuxedo (we were the same size).

How is that for eccentric collection.

Keep on posting..great fun to read and and watch, what a BU friend calls the ny yankees of college hockey.(not quite sure how he meant it but I am sure some Boston posters will tell me soon enough. Still name withheld, he had been drinking!)..
N.B. most games start at 2:10 am..over here

USHR has an article today about Denver signing a top 1994 recruit. Since I stopped subscribing, I can't can't say who it is.

Could it be....

Alex Carle-Matt and David's younger brother. Playing for Alaska Wolves
or
Quentin Shore-Drew and Nick's younger brother. Colorado Thunderbirds
or
Mark Knowlton-Chris's younger brother who played high school hockey as a freshman last year

The age is about right and they could commit, but I don't think they could sign.

I bet it's Tyler Pham. Committed for 2012.

We have to find out who this kid is!

Edit: It is Tyler Pham, currently 15 years old and a soph in HS.

From USHR
Top '94 to Denver. 5'9”, 160 lb. LC Tyler Pham of the Team Illinois Midget Minor squad has committed to Denver for the fall of '12.

Thanks for the heads up Ralph and for the lead Suze

Colorado State's club hockey team isn't going to like the Pham signing one bit.

Pham is from Ft. Collins. :D

It really is amazing to me how many of DU's most loyal fans attended school during the peaks of the hockey program.

1958, 1960-61, 1968-69, 1973, 1978, 1986, 2002, 2004-05.

Great hockey teams generate much greater spirit and emotional attachments that last through the eras. I would think that there are also correlations between hockey success and donation rates to the University, student retention rates, alumni association membership, etc. Hockey success is, I believe, a big self-esteem driver for the school. It's the one area that can bring a diverse University community together, and gives us a sense of some common identity that carries beyond the campus, or specific academic fields.

What are you saying about those of us that were here for the Serratore years?

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

What are you saying about those of us that were here for the Serratore years?

As Serratorre era student fans, you saw some grim hockey to be sure, but underneath the bad record was a program that was really turning the corner into the modern ara of new rinks, TV and the internet which carried college hockey from a sport seen primarlily locally into a much more nationally credible game.

Frank gets a bad rap for his .357 winning percentage as DU coach, but the reality is that his recruits went to the NCAA tourney in Gwoz's first year as coach, and he was building a very good foundation for the Gwozdecky era. Frank did a lot of work to patch up the sagging arena and restored the level of effort and pride in the program, and no staff worked harder when it came to recruiting, opening up Europe and getting DU on the radar of the emerging USHL.

Frank got fired from DU because he let his temper get the best of him. Had DU kept him around and let him mature a bit into the Frank that coaches AFA today, I think he'd have a similar level of success with DU as we see with Gwoz.
