Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

I would call Prpich's move more of the "pest" variety, and Greene's penalties as more of the "goon" variety. Ha ha. As I recall, Prpich's play didn't result in a penalty, but Greene had 1 or 2 costly penalties.

Here's the boxscore from that game:

Looks like Greene's first two penalties were killed off by the Sioux, but his 3rd penalty gave DU it's 3rd goal. Prpich did get penalized for the water bottle incident in the title game (2:57 of the 3rd period). He had done it once earlier that season (don't remember who the opponent was though) and didn't get penalized. Stupid penalty to take early in the 3rd period when UND was still only down by one goal...

As much fun as it is watching Sioux Nation cry into their Corn Flakes, we must refocus our attention to St. Cloud.

The refs don't really decide these games. Its up to the players and coaches to prepare and play the game and adapt to the referees. The "make-up call" has ruined college hockey and gotten to the point where fans, players & coaches now expect it.

Crying about the refereeing makes the entire fanbase look like crap. Let's not make the same mistake when the worm turns against DU.

Your coach runs around like a chicken with his head cut off when the calls go against his boys, so that ship has already sailed.

Precisely. Every team will have games where they'll get the short end of the stick officiating-wise. They key is to score and prevent enough goals so the bad refereeing can be overcome...

Gwoz is the best coach in the business. He is paid to make sure DU gets a fair shake with the referees.

He coaches the team, I write the blog. Its a simple relationship and we don't get in each other's way. :D

Swami's tip for UND for the January DU series: Score shorthanded goals.

;) :D

Barring any major injuries from hereon in, I see a high probability of DU and UND meeting in St. Paul in the WCHA Championship and possibly in the NCAAs. They are definitely the two best teams in the league.

UW might have something to say about that.

I thought that DU didn't get a man advantage from the Prpich water bottle move, and I think I was correct. The following shows that there were 3 penalties at 2:57--UND Prpich (unsportsmanlike), DU Handza (unsportsmanlike) and DU Thomas (holding). I think Handza's unsportsmanlike penalty was for retaliating against Prpich, and DU must have have gone a man down because of the Thomas holding call.

Prpich knew what he was doing. ;) :)

As I recall, Handza rapped Prpich on the hands with his stick after Prpich took the swig from Mannino's water bottle. Both got a con-incidental unsporsmanlike penalties, but Thomas had been called earlier for holding.

I don't know how you guys recall those details. All I remember is Mannino catching Fabian's shot inside the net. And Fin Carle skating through the whole team a few times.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

I had someone e-mail today wanting to know what Matt Laatsch is doing. The last place I could find him was the Iowa Chops as a coach last season. The Chops no longer exist. Anybody know what he is doing?

While we have been reminiscing about the 2005 team, it just dawned on me I watched the game at home with a good friend who passed away last year. This guy was a retired NYC cop who got the Big C maybe 3 or 4 years after leaving the force. He was one of my son's baseball coaches for 8 years and a huge tOSU football fan who would travel to Columbus for many games. He stopped by my house with a 6 pack so we could watch the DU/UND game. Ironically, it was being played in Columbus. He had never seen a college hockey game and instantly became a DU fan. One of the jobs he did after retiring was working at the Nassau Coliseum for the various events as security. He got to know quite a few of the Isles as most nights he worked the area near the lockerroom. He was a real good guy who would give you the shirt off of his back. Sadly he passed just after his 50th b-day.

I believe Laatsch is now a scout for the Anaheim Ducks, based out of Des Moines.

Thanks Swami

Isles just took a 1-0 lead on the Leafs midway thru 2nd

Edit: make that 2-0 Isles, btw CC's Jack Hillen has earned a regular shift on d with the Isles. Martinek is out for the season and Jack has grabbed the brass ring.

Dubie's Ak Bars Kazan KHL Russian Hockey Jersey is being auctioned on e-bay....Pretty rare and cool...

I can't spell his name in English.

I don't think Ak-Bars could spell it in Cyrillic either:D

(Note: always think it is Ak Sar Ben--which everybody know is Nebraska spelled backwards)
