All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Leggs, Doremus and Didier are certainly no surprise
But is anyone else surprised by Arnold's selection?
Don't remember too many 4th line players wearing the C. But remembered he was named Most Inspirational Player at the Hockey Awards Banquet.
(PioneerVision portal, Video Feature, Page 3)

Arnold wore the C in the USHL.

Larazza being stripped of a C and not even getting an A is surprising. The only other time I personally can recall a DU player being stripped of a C was Joe Murphy who was captain in '98 as a junior and was replaced by Paul Comrie the following season. Murphy still wore an A though...

Inside Lacrosse Ranks the 2014 Freshmen

24. Tyler Pace, M, Denver (26G, 11A in 19 games)

3. Christian Burgdorf, D, Denver (28GBs, 13CT in 18 games)
Burgdorf started drawing No. 1 matchups in February and was a lock-down defenseman for a top five team by April, but his performances in wins over Villanova, Carolina and Drexel all nationally televised — allowed unfamiliar fans to see just how important Burgdorf was to Denver's stifling defense.

1. Zach Miller, A/M, Denver (38G, 19A in 18 games)
It's amazing that Miller was not voted a first- or second-team All-Big East selection, yet when compared to his peers in the 2014 freshman class, and historically, he's a deserving selection as the top freshman of the year. Going back the last three seasons, Case Matheis had 52 points last year, Ryan Walsh had 60 in 2012 and Nicky Galasso had 56 points as a freshman in 2011 (and Jordan Wolf had 50). Miller's 59 points are even more valuable than their volume suggests — his ability to play attack or run out of the box gave Matt Brown's offense another option, one that helped Denver advance to the Final Four.

I'm so glad to see Montgomery designate ONE Captain. I always thought the Co-Captain thing was a joke; it was obviously concocted so as to not T off somebody's parents. There can only be one President, one Pope. Not everybody gets to be President. It's an honor to Captain a sports team - wear it wisely. Montovani said, "To have power, is to abuse it"

Each issue of Sports Illustrated includes a feature titled "Go Figure." It deals with numbers and relates them to a particular aspect of sports. The current issue of SI is dated June 9, 2014 and its "Go Feature" column contains the following item. ====>[The number7] Game 7 goals for L.A. winger Justin Williams tying him with Glenn Anderson for the most in NHL history. Williams's 14 Game 7 points is an NHL record.<===

New Chancellor - Rebecca Chopp

Rebecca Chopp brings to the University more than 20 years of experience in higher education leadership, most recently as president of Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. Before assuming the presidency of Swarthmore in 2009, Chopp served as president of Colgate University, dean of the Yale Divinity School, and provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Emory University.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

She seems like someone who might actually make eye contact with students when she walks across campus, unlike the ever-so-popular outgoing Chancellor...

We'll have to wait and see when it comes to her attitude toward athletics. Her answer to that question was jargon heavy, which may or may not mean anything.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Chopp appears to be a good "get" for DU. Glad the trustees went to the outside and the first woman Chancellor.

Interesting article from philly.com

Back in the day, DU had one of the few female Deans of Students, Barbara Mertz. She and Chancellor Mo Mitchell posed for a memorable K-Book photo as Bonnie & Clyde, complete with antique car, fire arms, cigarettes and period costumes.

Barbara Mertz? Barbara Mertz? Oh yeah, she was married to Fred. Lived next door to the Riccardos.

From Susan Snyder's piece: ". . .the private university does not have the prestige or national reputation of Swarthmore. . ." Hey Susan, in your ear.

My friend Tony Hecht was editor of the K-Book that year. He also managed to sneak in a slightly out of focus, but nevertheless recognizable complete full frontal nude photo of a young lady posing in an art class.
