Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Update on recruits--no letters of intent (so far)

2015-16
Troy Terry# F USHL NTDP U18
6 0-1-1 -1
Troy Terry-I've been impressed with Terry since making the move to the NTDP this year. He's not playing a big scoring role on the team, but I think his skating has improved since joining the NTDP. He's always had good hands and a strong stick. He's just barely eligible for the 2015 Draft, so he's a young kid, and he appears to be trending in the right direction.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Glad to hear about Hillman and Jarid L. in the early signing period.
I got BCHL stats from th IHDB.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

What should we expect from the Cornell games this weekend?

Busy refs and a lot of special teams play is my guess.
Currently Cornell is #1 and DU #2 in penalty minutes per game.
Cornell has a highly rated penalty kill. DU has a highly rated power play.
Strength vs Strength

In 2013 when the 2 teams met at Magness:

Friday 5-1 DU victory
Cornell 13 penalties--26 minutes
DU 14 penalties--39 minutes (Scott Mayfield got 2-5-10 minutes with 5 seconds to go)
Featured 3 double minors for each team for roughing.

Saturday 2-1 DU victory
Cornell 76 penalty minutes
DU 12 penalty minutes
2 Cornell players ejected for Contact to the head
5 DU penalties in 2nd period
At the end of the game:
Cornell had 10 min. bench penalty, 5/10 for spearing and 5/10/disqualification for obscene language. Coach Schaefer went off on the WCHA refs on postgame.

This year Coach Schaefer has been suspended for 1 game/ Three Cornell players have been disqualified for 1 game including former DU recruit. Jared Fiegl.

I am hoping that DU makes Cornell their ******.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Next Friday's game between UND and DU will be on Roots.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

I was wondering that as well. I would say that Mike is going to be pretty busy.

When Dater was suspended, Nick Geote(sp) covered DU. He does the Rockies and another sport.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Bump!! How do we feel about Cornell? I always worry about this team ever since they physically beat the crap out of us in 1986. We won the game, but hobbled into the NCAAs with 60% of our guys injured!

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Cornell penalty minutes are skewed by the 80+ minutes that were assessed at the conclusion of the St. Lawrence game. Expect 3-5 minors during the game, that is about the norm for Cornell this season.

It is very much appreciated that Denver will be making the trek to Ithaca. I hope the team and fans travel safely and enjoy their time at Lynah Rink.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Back in the day, I recall being impressed with the Cornell 'plane. 'Course, looking back on it, the aircraft was the same vintage as the one in Major League. Remember? The guys were suffering from "prop lag."

Did the pilots have brown leather coats and white scarves? :-)

When you went to school, that was cutting edge technology, eh?

****-poor effort last night, after dominating the first 10 minutes the Pios stopped skating, stopped working, stopped cycling. Hopefully Monty gets them ready for tonight, this could be the difference between playing in April or going golfing.

That was the same thought that went through my head (from the other side of the rink): where is Denver's effort? They're clearly a better team than they showed last night, but just had no hustle - Cornell was winning far more than their fair share of the possession and board battles. Maybe they'll shake off the jet lag or whatever it was and put it together tonight.
