Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

From today's Denver Post...

Notes: The Pioneers host winless Wisconsin on Saturday in the first nonleague meeting of the former Western Collegiate Hockey Association rivals. ... DU went 1-0-1 against Air Force last season, but the Pioneers were outshot 34-18 in the tie at the academy. ... Air Force has played into overtime in five of its past six games, going 2-1-2 in sudden death. ... DU will be without senior wing Ty Loney, who is scheduled for minor knee surgery Friday and is expected to miss a month. Senior wing Zac Larraza is questionable Friday and probable Saturday with an upper-body injury. ... The Falcons are 2-2-2 since losing four in a row.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

2012-13 UW came to town 2-7-2 --left with a tie and a win, finished the season 22-13-8 and the Broadmoor Trophy.
UW has a big alumni group in Denver and they show up at Magness. At least they wear red, not that bilious Sioux green

Remember the good old days
•Former teammates Eaves and Gwozdecky as opposing coaches
•Badgers besting the top seeded Pios at the Kohl in the Regionals
•Wiercioch decommitting from UW when Eaves wanted him to playin the USHL--coming to Denver to replace David Carle
•Two or three year run Pios played like the Kohl was home ice--that was fun
•Watching the UW band galvanize and energize the Badger faithful
•And of course the infamous Randy Schnidt blowing the goal call that gave the Pioneers the game.--when even the DU faithful could see and state that it was wrong

Have to admit I miss the "old" WCHA and hope we can continue an OOC rivalry.
But I must say,

Go Pios, Beat the Badgers!!!

GO DU !!!

Denver was the #2 seed that year. A significantly better team was the #1 seed. :p:D:D

Good luck to Denver this weekend...could be huge in the PWR by the end of the season.

The AHL's Portland Pirates have signed former @DU_Hockey G Peter Mannino.

Manchester F Nick Shore (@DU_Hockey) is the AHL Player of the Week after recording 3-4--7 and +7 in four games.

Drew Shore #1 star on San Antonio's 4-3 shootout win over OKC

There are plenty of games against the Jelly Donuts that I'd rather not remember as well. :p:D:D

We're getting rid of the last jelly donut at the conclusion of this season. I'm tracking down the rumor that DU will be donating it to the DPD.

Are you including the University of Alaska Palin in the "old" WCHA? Or are you going back far enough to include Meechigan (and the dozen or so Wakabayashi brothers) and MSU with even tempered Amo Bessone behind the bench? If it's the latter, I'm with you. If it's the former, get out of town. :D:):p

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

So Loney had minor surgery? You know what minor surgery is? When it's not being performed on you!

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

pfft.

Can't believe you guys would sink to this kind of fancy-schmancy stat manipulation just to make the Pio's look better on paper.

So I guess with all the stat talk we should be really disappointed that Wisconsin's PP was operating at 10x its usual efficiency tonight?

DU looked like they were playing at 1/3 speed last night (for big stretches), and like 3/4 speed tonight. I think we saw their full game last week against CC, much more conservative game plan this weekend. That's ok, eliminate the "trap game" scenario. 8-3 is absolutely fine by me.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Denver has a strange fanbase, man. Tonight we counted at least 6 people who sit by us in sec 2 - who are DU regulars - assumingly season ticket bearers... wearing Badger colours and cheering for Bucky. Even stranger, those same exact people wear their Fighting Sue shirts when North Dakota is here. Yet, for the BC weekend they wore Pioneer jerseys. WTH is with that ????
The NCAA Fan Shop thanks you
