Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

Q Shore has had 2 or 3 SOG and getting good ice time. Starting the 2nd Butcher and Slavin playing together. Announcer mentioned Pioneers and Tigers and Gold Pan. Must have been Starman.
Shore on the PK. Butcher on the PP.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

I think many people associated with DU turned a blind eye to the DU-Metro State name meddling that happened in the Golden Dome. This episode will continue to haunt DU for a while, especially attendance.

Interesting perspective.
Admittedly from many years and miles away, it seemed like there really wasn't that much support for the name change, certainly not from the graduates.

Follow up on the USA-Czech game from unitedstatesofhockey.com
Will Butcher — I liked Butcher at both ends of the ice. He scored the second goal, but he broke up a few rushes in his own end. He has good speed and turned it up ice really well throughout the game.

The name change wasn't the point of why locals aren't supporting DU. It was DU's meddling with Metro State in the Golden Dome is what caused the rift.

Questions The answers I usually get
"Which school most resembles the community?" Metro State
"Which school has done more to help the community?" Metro State
"Which students will be part of the community after they graduate?" Metro State
"If the situation was reversed would Metro State meddle with DU?" No

USA 6 Slovakia 3
Butcher with 2 assists this morning

From Twitter:
Chris Peters‏@chrismpeters58m
Standouts for me in the game: Eichel, Hartman, Kerdiles, Barber, Butcher, Santini, Grzelcyk, Copp #USAWJC

From Chris Peters recap
"Will Butcher — The power play is better when Butcher is setting things up and he did that well today with a couple of assists. He has poise with the puck on the blue line during the power play and finds the seams for passes or shots. I liked his distribution today a lot."

A .250 batting average won't get these respondents into the Hall of Fame. While that survey might point to the necessity of a DU charm offensive, I'm not entirely convinced that potential ticket buyers are demurring because of the Metro kerfuffle. "Honey, we don't want to go to that basketball game. Remember how DU screwed with Metro?" If we're talking about hockey attendance, other factors would seem to be at play: new conference, weak schedule, very slow start and, oh yes, DU fires college hockey's equivalent of Coach K (props to DG). Not to mention spending tens of thousands of dollars in an embarrassing Soviet style effort to justify pandering to Third World type students by dumping a mascot popular with students and alumni.

Pandering to Third World type students? Geez, you say that like it's a bad thing. I thought you earned a graduate school degree in that discipline.:D

You're missing the point.

This private university has no connection to the city other than the name "Denver". You could transplant to any other town. There is no reason for the locals to spend money on DU.

I can see why they're having issues at DU, they can't connect to the community.
