Colborne close to his first goal for Calgary. But his eye level is a "wee bit" above the crossbar of the net.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

Fascinatng Factoid of the Fortnight

DU's next 4 opponents are named after 3 myths and a drunken revel.

1.UAA Seawolves (don't call them seahawks they get really testy)

2.uaf Nanooks In Inuit mythology, Nanook (Inuktitut: ᓇᓄᖅ,[1] [na.'nuq],[2] lit. "Polar Bear")*
Just for you Old Pio, The word was popularized by Nanook of the North, the first feature-length documentary 1922.

3.Canisius Golden Griffins combo lion-eagle-god only knows

Finally the drunken revel--Niagara Purple Eagles smaller than a pink elephant, but they can fly

:D:D:D:D

*Wikipedia

All true. And the film also inspired the fearsome UAA student chant: Nanoo. Nanoo.*

Nanook of the North was certainly the first non-fiction feature film and predated the use of the term "documentary" despite some criticism because a few scenes were recreated. One persistent myth: Allakariallak, the great hunter who starred, died of starvation shortly after the film was released. Actually, he died of advanced halitosis, in the UAA student union.*

*(don't ask, just go with it).

In case you missed it...cool thing for the US NTDP guys to visit youth hockey practice while they were in the Springs. Article includes comments from your recruit Jared Fiegl.

(And I seriously hope the NCHC teams do well up in Alaska this weekend!)

Thanks for the tip. Good to know they chose U-18s to cheer for, not our friends to the south;)

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

Donovan back in Isles line-up tonight. Matt had this to say after this morning's skate.

Matt Donovan, on what he gained from sitting out the last two games: "I think just watching overall and thinking to myself what I need to do to get back in the lineup and play well and make the team better. [Being scratched] pushed you that much harder. I'm here now, and I don't want to get sent back down, so it makes me want to work that much harder to get back in the lineup and stay in the NHL."

FRom DU gamenotes
• Freshman Evan Janssen is not avaialble this weekend due to a lower
body injury.
• Sophomores Will (WADE) Bennett and Garrett Allen are questionable for this
weekend’s games, while Grant Arnold is doubtful following a lower
body injury suffered this week in practi ce.

This is in addition to Larraza and Romig

OMG:eek:

Too much too soon. Maybe we should shift our loyalty to the DU tiddlewinks team. Very few injuries I hear.

If those 6 can't play DU is down to 19 players; 16 skaters and 3 goalies. Shades of last season when DU had trouble dressing a full complement of players for a number of games due to injuries. If Allen and Bennett can play DU will have the full 18 skaters.

Viz, game thread is yours; 2 thread starts = 2 shutouts and 2 wins.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

CBSSports Network kicks off the NCHC season with a double header tonight. North Dakota at Miami followed by Minnesota Duluth at the tiggies.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

FYI, for those with smartphones and have the tunein app; 102.3 ESPN in Denver is one of the channels on it. You should be able to listen to the DU games live on your phone this weekend and during the season for free. As usual the radio broadcast will be simulcast this weekend for a fee on Pio Vision at www.denverpioneers.com. Also the Alaska Tournament this weekend is being webcast on America ONE Sports for I believe $8 per game. http://www.americaonesports.com/upcoming_events.asp?q=s&value=26&value2=Hockey

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

Have to say LaLeggia and Makowski are odds on favorites to wear a letter this year.

I just had a senior moment. At first glance, I read the second line of your post as "Dakota at Mermis."

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

Big sports day for me. The Oak Park Huskies take on Hinsdale Central. Huskies are ranked. 6-1.

Then DU plays in the Fish Breath Invitational. Somehow I'll be able to watch the h.s. game (for free) but only listen to the DU game (unless I pony up a fee). Oh well, I have my earphones and blind folds on, expecting a veritable tsunami of "Jayisms."

Old Pio, I assumed you didn't see this.

Believe it or not people answered this "like seriously":p

Am I the only one who saw a wee bit of sarcasm here?

No, I hadn't. Yes, just a teensy bit sarcastic. I'm resolved to move on from that incident. I've had many sleepless nights since that awful weekend.

That's because you were trying to count Jayisms instead of sheep.:D
