Monty acknowledged Sam's great play but penalties and tired play lead to defeat.
And as a side note, he was, in fact Inuit, as opposed to the largest population of Eskimos in the US, who are actually Yup'ik. A possibly interesting note only in the sense that Yup'ik people (in my experience) generally think you're weird if you use the word Inuit when you mean Eskimo. All true. And the film also inspired the fearsome UAA student chant: Nanoo. Nanoo.*
Nanook of the North was certainly the first non-fiction feature film and predated the use of the term "documentary" despite some criticism because a few scenes were recreated. One persistent myth: Allakariallak, the great hunter who starred, died of starvation shortly after the film was released. Actually, he died of advanced halitosis, in the UAA student union.*
*(don't ask, just go with it).
Old Pio, I assumed you didn't see this.
Believe it or not people answered this "like seriously"
Am I the only one who saw a wee bit of sarcasm here?
"People" Viz? One person replied to the comment. He said "No I don't think so since he’s still on probation and just a wheel dog in that organization". If you think that was a serious reply, you don't know Alaska Hockey very well. It was also a sarcastic reply.![]()
CC finishes with a whopping 14 shots on goal tonight in a 5-1 loss.

Coulda been worse. They could have been swept by the Alaska teams.
Not a great weekend for the Pios:
Swept by the UA's
Injuries-4 and 1 suspension all forwards
4th line didn't play too much which of course can lead to fatigue for the top 3 lines
SCORING FROM THE FORWARD LINE!
Freshmen--there's a lot of them.
Could take a few more shots, might mean more goals.
I remember one of Swami's "bring the Pio faithful back to reality" negative analysis indicating averaging 3 goals a game wouldn't cut it. Now at 2.2 goals per game
Good signs:
Sam Brittain
Offensive Defensemen
Freshmen--Cowley, Marcinew, Moore, Butcher looking good. My dark horse--Nick Neville sounds like a good name for hockey.
Fewer penalties --avg. thru 4 games 5.2/10.5 min --last year 7.2/17.2 min. For the season avg was 6.6 /16.7 min per game ( Mayfield is gone so that will lower the numbers.)
Penalty Kill
Power Play like it was against Merrimack
My vote: Makowski with the C or as a Co Captain with LaLeggia. Brittain and Viva with the A's
A new tradition--the 7th man--The open tryout sounded strange, but why not? Already put to use this season.

BTW, there is a World Series game next Saturday night and 102.3 ESPN is scheduled to broadcast it.
Gotta be a natonal feed so shouldn't effect the hockey game, she said hopefully.
