Didn't seem like the boyz were as focused or organized as last weekend. And we should thank the linesmen for keeping the puck in for our 2nd goal. Sure hope we don't start taking a lot of penalties that was a killer last year. I know it is a short turnaround, but hope the Pios play with a venegance.

I know it's painful, but here's the OT goal. Didier did everything but lasso the nook player to keep him from te goal. If there hadn't been a score a penalty would certainly have been possible.

And as a side note, he was, in fact Inuit, as opposed to the largest population of Eskimos in the US, who are actually Yup'ik. A possibly interesting note only in the sense that Yup'ik people (in my experience) generally think you're weird if you use the word Inuit when you mean Eskimo.

"People" Viz? One person replied to the comment. He said "No I don't think so since he’s still on probation and just a wheel dog in that organization". If you think that was a serious reply, you don't know Alaska Hockey very well. It was also a sarcastic reply.

Colorado's virgin coaches, Both Monty and Roy, were each handed thier first season losses this week. I don't feel so bad. Would certainly like to see DU plow through UAA tonight and show them what NCHC hockey looks like. These 2 teams have had some rough, physical, penalty-riddled games in the past. Nonody do anything wacky, please.

Like I said on the score thread, endurance seemed to be a big issue this weekend. The second half of each game looked much worse than the first half, especially in transition.
Will be good to start getting some people healthy, if we get so lucky. Need guys like Larraza back to help with depth. Looking back over the past couple seasons, last year with forwards and the year before with D, injuries really took their toll.

Hey HP, on a positive note, is this a college hockey first? All DU goaltenders are tied for the team lead in active consecutive shutout minutes.

Injuries-4 and 1 suspension all forwards
4th line didn't play too much which of course can lead to fatigue for the top 3 lines

Freshmen--there's a lot of them.
Could take a few more shots, might mean more goals.
I remember one of Swami's "bring the Pio faithful back to reality" negative analysis indicating averaging 3 goals a game wouldn't cut it. Now at 2.2 goals per game
Good signs:
Sam Brittain
Offensive Defensemen
Freshmen--Cowley, Marcinew, Moore, Butcher looking good. My dark horse--Nick Neville sounds like a good name for hockey.
Fewer penalties --avg. thru 4 games 5.2/10.5 min --last year 7.2/17.2 min. For the season avg was 6.6 /16.7 min per game ( Mayfield is gone so that will lower the numbers.)

Power Play like it was against Merrimack
My vote: Makowski with the C or as a Co Captain with LaLeggia. Brittain and Viva with the A's
A new tradition--the 7th man--The open tryout sounded strange, but why not? Already put to use this season.

Somebody had to do it... many Pio faithful couldn't handle reality sometimes.
I'd vote for Leggs to be captain or co-captain. He seemed to take more of a leadership stance than anyone else out there as the games got long this weekend. Plus I love the idea of a multi-year captain for some consistency, too bad Drew didn't stick around.
That being said, we're privy to so little of what goes on behind the scenes for someone to elevate themselves to a captaincy.
I don't think it's entirely new, I remember some practice-squad type players from back in the day that would make it onto the varsity squad, mainly from the club team. Zach Blom if I remember correctly? Zack Hope had a 1.00 save percentage in his DU career!
