Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

Sweeeeep!

SHUTOUT sweep! DU and Notre Dame are the only teams without a goal against so far (of teams that have played a regular season game). Great showing from Sam and the D.

Cool to see a scoring line with the goal and both assists going to freshmen (Butcher's rocket from Marcinew and Moore), we'll need that this season.

As usual with the Shores, loved Q's presence on the forecheck. Zajac looked comfortable at forward, too. The officiating was... not horrendous? So far so good.

Only gripes this weekend: 1. No post-game on the radio due to baseball coverage  2. There's a huge new video advertising board that completely covers the Magness Arena sign over the press box. It looks super tacky and to me says that we take no pride in our facilities or supporters and would rather whore out to ad dollars. Terrible placement. But I digress, not all that relevant to hockey. 3. I know it's time to move on, but it was still a little bittersweet without George this weekend.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

Coach said in postgame that Larraza is making great progress, already skating, might be back in 2 weeks, 3 weeks max. Janssen hurt his leg tonight, will get an MRI tomorrow. Zajac likely to stay at forward until we get two forwards back (between Janssen, Romig, Larraza).

Said coaches will talk on Monday re: captains, not sure where it's headed yet. He knows the guys that will probably wear letters, but doesn't know if a true captain has emerged yet, or if they might go with an old-school tri-captain approach.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

We could see a troika of D-men wearing letters--LaLeggia, Makowski and Didier.
aLTHOUGH THE BIGGEST MAN ON DEFENSE--sAM "tHE gREAT" bRITTAIN MAY BE THE MOST DESERVING.

OOPS:o

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

The NCHC will recognize outstanding performances during the regular season. The conference office will award a Player, Defenseman, Goaltender and Rookie of the Week honors on a weekly basis for those players who are worthy of the award.
Brittain, Tie-Zajac and LaLeggia, Brittain, tie Butcher and Marcinew:D

Really, Brittain should be a lock for Goaltender of the Week.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

DU said on Facebook that the ribbon board will eventually go underneath the press box, but is up high temporarily while they make renovations to convert Pioneer Vision to HD. That's apparently why the scoreboard was raised up high, too.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

That's good news on a couple of fronts. Is this board only advertising? Or does it encourage the crowd and do stars and stripes during the anthem, etc?

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

D-man Tariq Hammond of Okotoks Oilers in Alberta has committed to DU. He is 19 going on 20 so I assume he is coming in 2014. 10 points in 12 games this year

His stats: http://www.okotoksoilers.ca/team/roster.html

Ajhl is having a poll for top players--you can vote now for last decade--that includes Joe Colborne who was a dominant player in that league. A lot of familiar names for UMD and UND as well.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

You have to feel good for Monty....throwing down the gauntlet with a sweep-out, which Gwoz, the Chief or anybody else couldn't do here.....ever. There couldn't be a better start! That's a fine how do you do, Coach! The guy would be crucified if we started off with 2 losses

It is a good start, but no...Montgomery wouldn't be crucified if we started with 2 losses. Expectations amongst most fans are pretty low this year.

Expectations

BTW moved up to 12th in USCHO rankings

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

I will be really curious to see how the next eight weeks or so shake out. I have a certain amount of optimism, but I have to think things get a whole lot tougher once we head into the league schedule.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

Oh for sure Dup....some people, me included, have commented what a weak sched DU has....yet look who was in the Frozen 4 last year.....an eastern team. League play will be a big measuring stick. Sure hope the old Sam Brittain is back.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

I called and complained about the ads on the ribbon board during the national anthem. What a disgrace.

You're right. What did they say? I'm hoping it's just a matter of getting the thing installed properly. And they don't plan to do that in future. Ribbon boards can be useful during the anthem and pumping up the crowd. I can't imagine (admittedly very optimistic here) that DU would be cheesy enough not to utilize the technology to its fullest advantage. They've been cheesy enough to dismiss a mascot the students and alumni love, so I'm grasping at straws here.
