Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Has anybody checked on Dmann lately?

I'm here, I'm here, not to worry!! Just been real busy on the boat. Changing hats now as the High School doors have opened for another season, (groan). This can only mean one thing though, that hockey season is not that far off anymore.

Go DU!!!!

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Julie Robenhymer looking at potential Hobey candidates. Commenting on the group that would have been in the mix if they hadn't gone pro--Drew Shore and Jason Zucker.

But for this year...
Typically, the Hobey discussion is dominated by forwards that put up boat loads of points, but there's usually a defenseman or two that works their way into the conversation. This year that looks to be Joey LaLeggia - Sophomore, D, Denver, EDM. After a stellar freshman season in which he earned 38 points in 43 games from the blueline and earned Rookie of the Year honors, expectations are high for him in Denver and with few returning upperclassmen to carry the load, the Pioneers are counting on him to exceed them.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Yay John Ryder! Like the Chambers interview said, if he stays healthy and becomes somewhat of a good fighter, the AHL fans will LOVE him! If bulldozers wore ice skates.... they would look like Johnny. God help whoever is in his path. Those fans are going to see alot of opponents skates pointed towards the rafters

What a terrific analysis! Reminded me of an incident in what used to be called the Hilltopper game: varsity against freshmen and alumni. The big name on the team that year was all-American defenseman Wayne Smith. Early on, a red headed, rawboned freshman defenseman from Saskatoon skated over to Wayne and cross checked him into the 3rd row! Hello, my name is Keith Magnuson, what's yours?

My next door neighbor used to be Paul Jerrard - who's now the Asst Coach in Dallas for the Stars; we usually go see him after the game when they're here playing the Avalanche... I just sent Paul an email telling him ALL bout Ryder :)

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

More about Ryder...
Mike Chambers was wrong. Ryder had 1 goal before his seson ending injury as a freshman. So his stats were 1-21-22.

The BIG stat---965 hits in 4 years. 168-241-347-209
As a RS frosh finished 2nd in hits to the Captain, JP Testwuide. Led in number of hits the last 3 years. Played in 30 or 32 games in 3 of 4 years. Played 42 games as a junior.

Here's hoping our Big Yellow Truck is a Big Hit in Austin!

BTW, last year Scott Mayfield had 118 hits and Josiah Didier 115 for 3rd and 4th place in the hit parade.
