All sports, at all levels, are becoming more and more aware of any hit which has the potential for injury. The NCAA has come out strong in their stance on potentially dangerous hits and that obviously trickles on down to the various conferences (obviously WCHA in regards to us), which trickles on down to the leadership (McLeod, Sheperd, et al...), which leads to the refs erring on the side of caution and being more harsh in assessing these hits. Like it or not, agree or disagree but it is a big point of emphasis for all refs (on and off-ice) to watch for this...obviously the off-ice refs' assessment would only be needed if on-ice refs had an obscured view or something.
The players know this as well as anyone -- or they should.
Mermis needed to be smarter. Nothing grey about this, he f-u-cked up and took a stupid 5 minute penalty with 6 minutes to go in a one goal game. The refs, with how they are supposed to officiate, probably made the right call in my opinion.
Its Sam & Adam the rest of the way.
UC is State Farm - An insurance policy if Sam gets hurt again or leaves early. Red-shirt UC next season and you have an experienced Sophomore when NCHC play begins.
I'd say Adam won Round 1 last weekend.
Horrible timing, no doubt. But for the 1st and 3rd the Tigers were dominating, getting to most of the loose pucks, winning face offs and the ever popular, moving their feet. Close game. Good game. The problem, of course, is the enormous pressure they're under tonight to avoid the sweep.
One more thing, I hate to b*tch about calls, makes one sound like what's his name, Doofus, who blogs for UAA.

Per SCSU's coach, “A few years ago, that was a heck of a hit.”
Ramage wasn’t the only UW player shown the gate, as freshman Brendan Woods received a game disqualification with 20 seconds left after checking Eddy from behind. According to Motzko, Eddy is ‘dinged up’ and is questionable for Saturday’s series finale, calling it ‘not a good hit.’
CC has played DU and Minnesota the past two weekends and, I believe, only gave up 5 goals in those four games. Apparently the tiggers have upped their defensive game at the right time. If DU ends up on the bubble or even out of the NCAA tourney, weekends like this and one-pointers against Tech and UMD will have contributed mightily to that "feat".
All I was saying about the call is that the refs are all under a lot of pressure to make sure they don't **** up any calls which are part of their points of emphasis as outlined by the NCAA. A hit that would likely have not been a penalty before is now a minor, a minor not all that long ago is now all of a sudden a major, a former game misconduct is now a game DQ, etc... It is what it is and the players need to adjust or they face taking a major at a really, really inopportune time.
I wonder if DU has ever started three different goalies over the course of four games before?
Thats OK. I've never had a good read on Gwozdecky's goaltender rotations. Adding a third guy to the mix just complicates it all the more.Looks like that crystal ball is on the fritz again DG.

So with that in mind. Brittain starts both games this weekend.

I don't see it. There have been years where Gwozdecky had one of the top one or two goalies in the country, and still platooned them with lesser goalies. I feel like there was one year when Dubie and Berkhoel platooned where some coaches might have just thrown Berkhoel in every five or sic games, same a couple years later with Berkhoel and Fisher and a couple years later with Mannino and Fisher. Although Mannino was always prone to the terrible game from time to time. (Berkhoel too, to a lesser extent)I think Sam gets the start again on Friday. If he's dialed in--he's back for a second helping Saturday. Let's hope he is, because our chances of making it to the field of 16 is riding on our performance this weekend. Time for some Gopher hunting!
