Re: All Things Denver XXX

Concerned bump!!! Fellow DU fans, I know we are at a down time of the year, and we had another exit from the NCAAs and most of all, we lost our leader (Swami). We still need to keep this thread off of page 2 and sometimes, God forbid, page 3!!! Viz, DU78 and I cannot do it alone!! Here are some potential topics:

1- So we won one game in the NCAAs, does this mean Gwoz is off the hook?, does he get a raise?
2- The threads "Best Programs ever" and "Best coach ever" deserve some attention
3- What about the loss of Garret Allen?
4- Is Zucker sticking around?
5- What about the 3rd Shore brother, is he a lock?
6- How are our beloved alums doing in the NHL playoffs?
7- And more!!

Come on Pioneer fans!! Let's keep it going!!!!!!

1. I don't know if Gwoz is off the hook, but for my money he did a great job with an overachieving team in a rebuilding year.
2. I get FS23's ratings and I don't have much problem with it. We probably passed Wisco with this years performance. Best Coach, Gwoz may be top twenty, I never saw a DU game with Murray Armstrong as coach, I don't think I was alive, however it seems like he was one of the first if not the first to recruit canadian players and promote a more professional style of hockey. This along with the championships should put him quite high with the likes of the Tech Coach.
3. ? dunno
4. I hope so, I think he could be the star sniper ala bozak in his last season at DU, hopefully there will be no injury, and that could help his chances at the NHL level.
5. we better get Quentin? I think thats his name. The question I would ask is whether that would convince his oldest bro to stay for a senior year as a captain.
3.

Re: All Things Denver XXX

Drew Shore and Matt Donovan are both on USCHO's All American 3rd Team.
Glad Drew is coming back next year.

Re: All Things Denver XXX

DU's Hockey Awards are scheduled for April 22nd.

Last year's award winners were:
Bill Masterton-MVP Marc Cheverie
Dr. Ralph Verploeg-Most Inspirational Player Rhett Rakhshani
Keith Magnuson-Defensive Player Marc Cheverie
Star of the Year Marc Cheverie
Barry Sharp-Freshman of the Year Matt Donovan
Murray Armstrong-Most Improved Player Nate Dewhurst and Chris Nutini
Dr. Ken Bredesen-Sportsmanship Award Matt Glasser
Dr. Art Mason-Scholar Athlete Matt Glasser and Tyler Ruegsegger
Bob Martin-Community Service Brandon Vossburg

Who will win this year?
My thoughts for what they're worth:)
MVP-Drew Shore, Jason Zucker, or Sam Brittain
Most Inspirational-Jesse Martin
Defensive Player-Matt Donovan or Sam Brittain
Star of the Year-Drew Shore, Sam Brittain, Jason Zucker (too lazy to go back to count)
Freshman-Sam Brittain, Jason Zucker
Most Improved-Drew Shore or Luke Salazar(Comeback Player of the Year)
Community Service-Brandon Vossburg won 4 years in a row. Who's turn is it now?
Scholar Athlete-Ruegsegger was another perennial, but there are 6 WCHA Scholar Atletes to choose from
Sportsmanship-fewest penalties or is there more? Nate Dewhurst had only 4 penalties in 41 games
Century Club-Anthony Maiani and Kyle Ostrow

How about:
Kyle Ostrow Award-Kyle Ostrow-because he should win something-played every game(150) until emergency surgery sidelined him in the last part of his senior year-he led the team when it really counted and when he was injured you could tell his leadership was sorely missed
Most outrageous goal-David Makowski
Best Nickname-Great Brittain, Big Yellow Truck
Biggest Hits-John Ryder
Sic'em-Jarod Mermis Unleashed
Most Surprising-Josh Rosenholtz-perfect goals against record
Never Give Up-Joey Brehm and John Cook
Best rendition of D-Rah-Mark Rycroft
TMDLICH-Jay backed off this year, so this award may be retired :D

The "how abouts" are spot on. :)

Re: All Things Denver XXX

Just saw that as I was reading the Post during lunch. That will be a nice committment getting Quentin Shore after he plays for the U-18s next year. The only other 3 brothers I recall playing at DU were Doug, Ken and Dave Berry in the 70's and 80's.

All three were excellent, but never played all at the same time. I think Doug and Ken played together and Ken and Dave played together. I've mentioned this before, but Ken is one of my all time favorite Pioneers.

Doug never played with Ken. Doug turned pro after his junior year (1978). Ken was a frosh in September 1978 and just missed playing with him. The frosh in the fall of '78 included Ken, Andy Hill, Glenn Anderson, Glenn Johnson, Ed Beers and Scott Robinson, among others.
