Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Rock playing for Isles against Flames in Saskatoon tonight. Tape delayed on NHL Network at 4AM ET.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

"Patrick Wiercioch had the lone goal for the Senators, his first in an Ottawa uniform. The rookie blueliner's screened, high wrist shot beat Sabres goalie Ryan Miller for a power-play goal with 12 seconds left in the second period."

Wiercioch and Bozak set for the Sens-Leafs game in Ottawa.
Rakhshani headed to Saskatoon with the Isles.

Wonder if Colborne's injury hastened his departure from Boston?

Rock played in the Isles 3-2 loss to the Flames last night in Saskatoon. The head coach Scott Gordon was coaching this game as the Isles played split squad games with Calgary and Philly. Rock had an assist on the Isles 2nd goal and guess what almost tied the game with 7 seconds left in the 3rd.

Here are some quotes from the game blog on the Isles site.

Trevor Gillies tipped in Zenon Konopka’s shot from the point at 3:12 cutting it to 3-2. Rhett Rakhshani also had an assist.

Rhett Rakhshani almost ties it up with seven seconds remaining as Irving made a flailing save.

I was looking for "2" s. Added 2 x Captain to my list for Maggie.
There were a few other things that didn't Have a "2".
  • 3 time All WCHA First Team
  • WCHA Rookie (sophomore) of the year
  • WCHA MVP
  • MVP National Championship Tournament

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

"You have Rhett Rakhshani -- Rhett continues to look like a guy who has four additional years of hockey under his belt, a living example of someone who played four years of college rather than someone who is just stepping out of his first year or two in junior. He handles the puck with poise, he gets through spaces and situations when a hungry opponent thinks the size mismatch will determine the play. I liked him again last night, and I could see him helping the Islanders in a pinch now, although I'd be quite happy to see him be an asset in Bridgeport. All of these kids probably need more time at levels where they can score rather than nights in the NHL where they come up empty but "gave a good effort."

Nice plug for 4 years of college hockey.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

vizoroo,

Go back to the RPI PtC thread. Your UNB pick, the same one that I picked, is out for the season due to an injury. :D

With a resume like that, no doubt he's honored by having his name in a "ring of fame," or a bust, or an oil portrait in Magness. Right? No? Why not?*

*This is my annual appeal to our collective decency and honor. So far, we've had only two immortals, with a third warming up in the bullpen. Notwithstanding the pending collapse of the WCHA, budget considerations or anything else, it is a scandal these two are not honored by the school they honored with their presence.

Both Masterton and Magnuson were inducted into the University of Denver Athletic Hall of Fame -- the highest honor DU bestows on its athletes. There are plaques of them on the wall in the Magness concourse, but you'd need to look hard to find them. To my knowledge, there are no retired numbers at DU in any sport. I have heard that Gwoz is also not a fan of retired numbers, but I that is second hand rather than direct knowedge, I believe he prefers the team concept to the honoring of individuals.

As much as I admire Gwoz, we'd racked up 5 NC's before he arrived. He is not and should not be the sole arbitor of who gets honored and how. We have this retired number conversation every year. I don't care if numbers are retired or not. It is honoring the players and their magnificent contributions that's first on my list. How we do it is an open question. That we should do it is beyond discussion. That we haven't done it defies understanding.

Unbelievable, I never thought this day would get here!!, yeah!!! Unlike last year where there was no doubt we would be good, I have no idea about this team. On paper we look great, but so do all the other teams. It would appear as though our defense is in great shape, seems like we have plenty of fire powere on offense, but what about in net? That is the question!!!
