Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Patrick has $2.625 million reasons to have left DU :D ;)

BTW Acording to CapGeeks.com, Tyler Bozak's 2-year contract has the total potential to be $7.45 million with $5.7 million in performance bonuses. Not sure what bonuses he hit last year but he probably did fairly well.
A lot of his bonuses are really hard to hit. MVP, leading goal scorer, All-Star etc.

That being said, he should be getting Stastny & Carle money on the second contract, so he'll be OK. No one will be cheering for Tyler & Joe more than Paul and Matt. When DU hits them up for money they can split the bill four ways instead of two.

So far Paul & Matt donated the Alumni hockey jerseys and the NHL quality TV replay equipment to the hockey program.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

It's great to see the players like Stastny and Carle giving back to the program that helped them attain such large NHL contracts.

One of the best memories I will ever have of DU hockey is the moment those alumni jerseys were wheeled out at the 60th anniversary celebration. Seeing all those DU player alumni, with ages ranging from their 20s to 70s, most with their eyes as wide as a kid on Christmas morning, looking for their own names and numbers and then putting on the Denver sweaters once again was a total thrill.

Stastny and Carle are continuing a tradition that includes guys like Magnuson, who was very active in his post-DU career. I've posted before about running in to a couple of players who were still impressed after Maggie cuffed them around in an alumni game. They both marveled at how big his hands were.

Great move as long as the Ticket doesn't buy any other sports properties that would shuffle us off to secondary stations. It will be good to have one FM station where all games can be heard. This is a new station, and we'll likely get treated well there.

More on the Ticket and the people behind it:

What can people expect out of David Makowski? Looks like a pretty nice package.

He was voted best defenseman in the USHL, and he's won championships wherever he's been recently. He's coming in as a 20 year old and I expect him to battle for a top six spot this year, and my guess is he'll see plenty of ice time. Donovan is probably going to sign after this year, so Makowski and Philips will likely battle it out as the Pios' PP QB in 2011-2012.

Makowski was something of a late bloomer, and was passed over in the NHL draft.

Hockey's Future in process of updating their team by team prospects:
#3 Tyler Bozak Maple Leafs
#11 William Wrenn San Jose
#9 Rhett Rakhshani NY Islanders
#14 Matt Donovan NY Islanders
#15 Jason Zucker Minnesota Wild
and my favorite write up:
#3 Beau Bennett Pittsburgh Penguins
"Scheduled to play for the University of Denver next season, Bennett’s focus will be on his conditioning. He currently weighs about 180 pounds and will expect to add another 10-15 pounds of muscle over the next two seasons. DU has a solid reputation for not only building competitive teams, but developing young players towards their strengths while making them well rounded players in the process. This is the perfect environment for a young forward with tons of upside but a need to improve round out his game."

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Glad to see Penn State entertaining the hockey option, but I hope it doesn't result in a big-ten hockey conference. We'll see.

A quick note on some soccer success: the women's team beat CU with a minute left in the game. I think the DU women are now 5-1. The men beat #20 Georgetown. Good stuff. I hope to get to the new soccer stadium to see some games soon.
