All Things Denver, XXVIII

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Another story for you all to consider, confirm, or ignore:
In 1950 or 51, there was a fire in a dorm on campus. There was a lot of smoke and a drunk hockey player in the basement. A dorm daddy pulled or helped him to safety.
Anyone confirm or add details?

Someone will have to ask Harold.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Had to be those old apartment dorms. JohnnyMac had to be built after that.

I remember some class I had where the visiting professor from Indiana State reported a good news/bad news situation. The good news: there had been a fire at Science Hall. The bad news: it had been extinguished.

Johnny Mac, Halls and Towers were all built in the 1960s. Would have had to been Skyline or one of those other old apartment dorms.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

But we aren't certain this tall tale is accurate, right?

Right, I never heard that story when I was there.

I remember one of the frat houses on East Asbury, east of University Blvd., caught fire after a party. I recall that no one was injured but the house was heavily damaged.

Today is 07/29/10.
There are 71 days until DU's next game.

This is based upon 8 October for the start of the regular season
65 days until the first exhibition.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

The DU Chapel burned down in the summer of 1983.

The Kappa Sigma, Lamda Chi & Phi Kappa Sigma houses were torched by an arsonist in 1987.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Connor James, who had 53 points in 55 games with Augsberger Panthers of the German Elite League (DEL) last sesaon is now on the roster of the DEG Metro Stars (Dusseldorf).

DEG was the team of Ryan Caldwell, who played last year for Metro Stars, but is not listed on the current roster, so he may be either moving to a new team or retiring.

Caldwell & James: where would DU hockey currently be without them? I'll raise a glass to those esteemed gentlemen the next time I'm drinking a Crimson & Gold brew at Jordan's. Hopefully that will be REALLY soon, cause I need a drink.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Hopefully he gets a shot to stick with Atlanta.

Thrashers only have 2 goalies who played in the NHL last year and one not very much. Manno and McIntyre for the Wolves. Here's hoping he can move up this year.

According to the USA Hockey Blog covering the event, Bennett was the best player on the ice for Team Blue on Friday. Since almost every player at the Camp is an elite player from an elite program, thats great news.

In not so good news, Drew Shore now on the 3rd line for Team White, but he is playing with Saad and Palmieri.

DU's Team Blue contingent is unchanged.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Team White 4 Team Blue 2
"GOAL!!! Kyle Palmieri scores his second of the camp to give USA White a 1-0 lead. Drew Shore won a faceoff cleanly to Palmieri, who pumped a wrist shot past Iles low to the blocker side less than two minutes into the game." From the USA Hockey blog
