The season ended today for Gabe Gauthier 7-4-11 +3, Patrick Mullen 0-0-0 and the Manchester Monarchs.

Gabe had an assist in the losing effort. He finished in the top 20 for both points and goal for his stint in the playoffs.

none yet but there have been a few rumors..........we are all keeping our fingers crossed that all will be back

I have to say I am very happy to see Jonathan Toews on the national scene! Captain of a Stanley Cup team after how many years as a pro? It seems like yesterday he was giving us fits playing for UND!! Then it occurred to me that even though they're the enemy, that line of he played on, the DOT line had to be one of the best lines in college hockey! Maybe we could get a few posts out of this, best college hockey lines ever, the DOT line?, the RECing crew? Discuss,

Numbers wise the 85-86 line of Gaume,Mathiasen and Ecklebarger stands up pretty well.

That mid 80s era was the high water mark of offensive hockey, as 6-5 scores back then were as common as the 3-2 scores are now. Better defensive systems, improvements in scouting/sattelite dishes and the rise of specialized goaltending coaching, the butterfly style and increased goaltending equipment size have forced today's collegeians to score at about half the rate now as players did back then. When you watch tapes of that era, it's kind of astounding how much better defenses and goaltending have become today, at the expense of the scorer.

Dallas Gaume had 266 career points at DU to lead the all-time career scoring list, including 66 points as a freshman and 99 points in his senior year. Rhakshani had 50 points this year to lead DU as a senior, with about half the points Gaume had as a senior. Thus, Gaume's DU records will likely never be broken.

Fair points. What line(s) would you pick? That line put up crazy numbers that year; Gaume 99,Mathiasen 89 and Kermit chipped in for 31.

Tough call. Dewey and Dal were All-Americans and would have both been about 50-60 point season guys if they played in today's era. Kerm would be a 15 point banger on that same line if they were playing in today's game, intead of the 31 point guy he was in his senior year in '86.

Rak, Ruegs and Colborne would probably have been all 80-90 point season guys had they played in the mid 80s, so I'd probably take that line, based on the fact that while Dallas and Dewey may have been slightly more talented than Rock and Reugs, Colborne is a huge upgrade over Kermit.

That's sad in a way. It's like Gretsky's records. Will they ever be broken? I guess you're right about Gaume though, we've had so many stud forwards who haven't even come close. The other problem is, if we do ever get a stud of this caliber, he'll never stick around 4 years!

I saw Don Fraser, Ed Beers and Andy Hill play, and that was the year that Beers had 84 points and Fraser (83) went 1-2 in NCAA scoring. Beers had 50 goals that year to lead a mediocre DU squad. You would think that with the NCAA's top 2 scorers that DU would have been an NCAA threat, but both goaltenders averaged about 4.5 GAAs, which ensured that DU was never in the NCAA picture....

All great lines. Let's add the Miller Line: Jim Shires, Tom Miller and Cliff Koroll. Perhaps not the big numbers we're talking about here, but very solid numbers. All three had meaningful careers in the NHL and coming down the stretch in '68 (when DU had a 20 plus game winning streak) these guys scored 30 some odd goals and gave up three.

81-82,Robinson and Tierney.

Both goalies platooned that year, and both were very average for their time, saving about 87-88% of the pucks they faced. Today, the WCHA average is 90-91%, with top goalies saving 92-94%. Had Robo and Tierney had the benefit of today's equipment, coaching and defense, they'd probably be 90-91% goalies.

In recent years, when you look at DU goalies such as Dubie, Berhkhoel, Mannino and Cheverie, their ability to save 2-3% more than comparable WCHA goalies is the difference between a NCAA tournament team and a mid-pack team.

Going in to last season I was hoping DU was going to be able to field three potent lines. A couple of things derailed the plan including Salazar falling off the planet, Jackson's injury and Shore's low shooting percentage.

Eventually DU went with all-the-eggs-in-one-basket with Colborne, Ruegsegger and Rakhshani. Ruegsegger probably was pretty badly hurt by the end of the season, but sure enough DU's fate was sealed when the eggs went rotten in the playoffs.

The problem with single elimination tournaments is that star lines can be bottled up. Show me a team with three strong scoring lines and you'll usually find some NCAA hardware sitting in the trophy case.
