DG makes some good points about Team scoring depth and I wonder how much of that was underperformance vs how much was injury-related.

I would guess that DU's scoring depth was deeply affected by nagging injuries across the board. Hockey culture together with federal student privacy rules consprire to hide the severity of injuries, which robs the fans of an objective picture of how teams can be expected to perform. Clearly, with nine offseason surgeries performed, DU's team was seriously hampered down the stretch.

The Doug Berry, Perry Schnarr and Mark Davidson line was the top line in college hockey in '77-78. Doug was one of the most unselfish players and a great playmaking centerman. In his first two years he passed up many chances to score by dishing off to one of his linemates. In his junior year in '77/78, the coaches were finally able to get him to shoot more and he had his best season with 36 goals and 46 assists. Perry Schnarr and Mark Davidson were pure snipers. All Berry had to do was get them the puck and it was a goal. That line had 94 goals, 123 assists for 217 points in '77-78. Berry had 82 points, Schnarr had 68 points and Davidson had 67 points. Until I saw Glenn Anderson skate with the '78/79 team, Perry Schnarr was the fastest skater I saw at DU. There was no d-man in the WCHA that could stop Schnarr or Anderson 1 on 1 in the lates 70s. Both of them would make the d-men look like pylons as they went around them.

It would be interesting to know how many players from other teams had post season injuries. Was 9 excessive? How many did BC have? My point is, by the month of April, I bet most teams had tons au injuries.

Yes - all teams have them, sometimes a lot of them.

But nine post-season surgeries seems really high to me - an unusual 'outlier' kind of stastistic. That's more than third of the team, and probably about half the guys who play significant minutes...

I had posted this before but I think it gives some big insight into the injuries that DU had late in the season. In one of his weekly press conferences late in the season Gwoz indicated that he didn't have enough healthy players on Monday to hold a full practice. By Friday's game everyone dressed but Nutini. This doesn't mean everyone was healthy but a number of player's probably dressed that were well under 100%. Hockey players will play through pain but if enough are hurt, the team definitely can't perform like they normally do.

Back in the day, Cal Sandbeck, a big DU d-man, played the final playoff series against CC in 1978 with one broken ankle (hairline fracture)and one sprained ankle. He did everything in his power to make sure he was able to play in that series including icing both ankles pretty much 24/7 for the week leading up to it. He got into his skates and never took them off until each game was over. CC had no idea that he was playing as hurt as he was and neither did most fans.

Ruegs "only" had a 3.95 GPA. The tennis player had a 4.0.
Somehow I see him in law school, not riding the bus in the minor leagues. Compare him to Bozak and I think he would be the first to say he is not as talented.

How about a Christian Attorney Agent? Is that even possible?

Matt Carle could be the first ex-DU player since Glenn Anderson in 1994 to have his name etched on the Stanley Cup as a player.
