Re: All things Denver XXVII: From Boonetown to Motown - It's not a Ford, it's a Chevy!

These "package deals" seem to be coming up a lot lately. I don't recall hearing much about them in the past. I wonder if the high cost of tuition is driving this or parents are getting more savvy.

Kyle Rau committed to the Gophers.

Doesn't sound like a package deal as his brother Curt is uncommitted. Curt is also a standout lacrosse player though so I'm not sure what route he'll go.

Wow, what are the odds of that, just talking about him today, and then the article comes out today:

Denver and North Dakota were the other top choices for the 5-foot-9, 165-pound Rau, who scored 38 goals and had 39 assists last season and, as a sophomore, helped lead the Eagles to the state Class AA championship.

Won't happen from what I hear

Explain to me this payback for Testwuide? I assume you're referring to Mike, who went to CC b/c they offered him a scholarship and DU offered a walk on position?

That is what I was referring to and those are the facts as I understand them. I meant payback simply in the sense that the brother of one of our current/former players played for our biggest rival (arguably) and scored a ton of goals against us. It'd be nice to "return the favor"

Chambers' sources seem to agree with the highly educated guesses posted here. ;) Only one surprise--Dustin Jackson with an A.

Here's another post from Chambers regarding DU's schedule and the possibility of 2 or more players playing for Team USA during the holiday break.

Ohh, did you realize that DU will play the last game at the DECC. Only one more chance for Jay to comment about the strange size of the rink. :D

The coaches obviously know something we don't. I remember when he went down with his injury I thought, "uh oh, this is bad" Now that we know how the season ended, It's pretty clear we really could have used him.

So here we are, at a point where DU’s schedule is partly built around the World Junior Championship (AGAIN, THAT’S PARTLY, BECAUSE I KNOW OTHER FACTORS FOR SWITCHING THE DENVER CUP CAME INTO PLAY). Previously, the Pioneers were just happy to see one of their guys play in the WJCs. Now, they expect it. And they plan accordingly.
What's with the "tude?" Do you guys think he is a regular poster on this board?, is he one of us?

Where's the DECC?

Re: All things Denver XXVII: From Boonetown to Motown - It's not a Ford, it's a Chevy

I heard that DU wants to begin hosting a basketball tourney at Magness over New Years. If they can attract some big name programs with a "Tourney Exemption" its a good move all round.

Many good reasons to move the Denver Cup to Thanksgiving.

* More time at home over Xmas Break for the players
* WJT is becoming a big deal with worldwide TV coverage, so DU gets more exposure via its participating players
* Obviously harder to get name brand opponents if they are missing players to WJT
* With DU shorthanded, Pairwise/RPI damage could result from upsets
* With finals over before Thanksgiving DU players can focus 100% on hockey

I know I can cut to the chase and get right to this thread, but I like scanning the homepage for news on college hockey. The problem is the smug look on the RIT coach and his scruffy 26 year old player  Injuries or not, I can't believe we lost to those guys!!!

That must be so cool for those guys to reconnect at another level of hockey. I wonder if they were friends when they were teammates at DU!

Re: All things Denver XXVII: From Boonetown to Motown - It's not a Ford, it's a Chevy!

DU 2011 recruit Dan Doremus was selected 11th overall in the first round of the USHL Draft by Sioux Falls. DU hasn't had too many recruits taken in the 1st round in the past, so its a testament to this guy's ability.

He's from Colorado and plays for the Thunderbirds and has also been pursued by the NAHL, BCHL and AJHL.

So to recap the 2011 Recruiting Class.

2011 Recruiting Class
D Scott Mayfield (Youngstown, USHL) - Projected 1st Round 2011 NHL Pick
F Zac Larraza (U.S. Under-17) - Improving "power forward" type player
F Garrett Allen (Fargo, USHL) - Very fast forward, Solid in USHL Champions Series
D Matt Van Voorhis (U.S. Under-17) - Smallish talented D-man from Minnesota
D Daniel Doremus (Colorado Thunderbirds, AAA) - Stock on the uptick, 1st Round USHL pick

2012 Recruiting Class

F Tyler Pham (Team Illinios)
D Dakota Mermis (St. Louis Jr. Blues, AAA)

Jeez it's like the old "anticipation" commercials for Heinz ketchup waiting for this thread to end. :p
