All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Just looked like a good, hard hit in the corner to me. I mean, I won't mind if he gets a game for it, but ...

The WCHA is cracking down on hits to the head and a player has to be responsible for what he does out there whether intentional or not. Concussions are becoming a huge problem as UND well knows with Genoway missing most of the season and not playing since early in the fall. Whether Frattin did it on purpose or not, Whers (sp) suffered a concussion from the hit and I see some kind of suspension looming.

And I'm okay with a suspension in that case. :)

Is this what we can expect if UND beats tUMD in the play in game?

UND hates us for good reasons. Denver has crushed their NCAA hopes twice in the last six years. If the two teams meet, I expect UND to hit DU hard whenever the Sioux get a chance to do it. DU needs to be ready for it, keep cool and play hockey.

A loss? Maybe. ;)

I still would be surprised if UND gets past UMD. Duluth will be very desperate with their current perch on the NCAA bubble. With UND a lock to make the NCAA's regardless, I see UMD being the more intense team in the play-in game.

Regarding the Frattin hit, I wouldn't be surprised if he has to sit out the UND/UMD game.

Looks like it's going to be an interesting weekend for us. But we knew that anyway. The whole idea of "conference playoffs" is to get the regular season champion beaten. So winning the Broadmoor was a big deal for DU last year, not so much this year. A matter of perspective. And speaking of perspective, the Frattin hit was "good and clean" if the game they were playing was rollerball. Otherwise, no.

Frattin got the same penalty as John Lee did on Saturday and, while Lee deserved a penalty, there is no way it compared to Frattin's hit. Frattin hit the gopher guy while he (Frattin) was in stride and he left his feet. Lee was starting back as the Tech guy was coming up ice and he just decided to give the Tech guy a little smack under the chin. It wasn't the smartest thing for Lee to do, but it was in no way comparable to Frattin.

Frattin got the only 5 min. major in that game and no misconduct.
(Lawn mower throwing and a blowing a .12 on a DUI test don't count. :p ) 13 penalties called.

On the other hand, UMD and cc racked up 21 penalties including 2 misconducts, both for CFB.

It appears that no matter who wins the playin game, DU better be prepared for a rough game.

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

That TV piece about Boone had everything--a racist, misogynist, anti-semitic throwback of a mascot, a university spokesman doing his best Barney Fife imitation and a guy in a pimp suit speaking for well, school spirit. High fives all around. As has been expressed here before, nothing makes PC cant look so ridiculous as seeing it in person. Poor Barney.
But how great for DU. :) ;) :p :D

A pimp suit? I dress like that all the time. :D

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

bump!! What are the chances of DU playing in the Worschester (spelling, too tired) regional?

Looks like DU is going to be playing in Albany.

I could see DU in St. Paul if a Minnesota team (Duluth, SCSU or Bemidji) ended up #8 or #9, but its not a certainty because Wisconsin is the closest 1-seed.

Looks like Miami is 100% going to Ft. Wayne and Boston College is pretty much assured going to Worcester.

It is 99% certain that DU will be playing Alabama Huntsville if they are #1 or will play the AHA Champion (Air Force, Canisius, Sacred Heart or Rochester Institute of Technology) if they are #2.

I think the Redhawks are the only one who are set in the equation. I do think we have a pretty likely chance of landing in the east. I hope it's the X because then I can go.

If Duluth or St. Cloud could endup in the West with DU, there's a chance you could go to the X.

Just a little tidbit of information:

It appears as though today is the 53rd anniversary of cc's last NCAA championship.

1957 was a looooong time ago.

:)

CC has lost over 400 season ticket holders and will be cutting ticket prices next year. The Tigers are unique in that the college community is only a fraction of what drives their program - they need people of Colorado Springs to really support them. They still draw very well, but their core audience is not campus-centric...And that means they need to really connect to people who don't have a vested interest in the school.
