I think we all want to see Brittain take the reigns at some point, and for Gwoz to cease the rotation. I'd like to see how Brittain plays when he knows that he's "the man." But let's not be too harsh on Murray. He has had his struggles, and his stats are subpar. But I think that the team also plays better and more inspired hockey in front of Brittain. That will happen with goalie rotations--the team will bring it's "A" game for the better goalie. But just because Brittain is better, it doesn't mean that Murray sucks, or that he's not a Division I level goalie. I think he's a work in progress, and that we'll see good things from him in the future.

We're all pretty supportive around here. We do very little player bashing. And if we had bad boys, we'd reserve our harshest criticism for them. By all accounts, Adam's a good kid. And probably has the physical tools to make a first rate goalie. But he gives me the impression of someone who's waiting for something bad to happen. Expecting something bad to happen. For those of us who saw it, that shelling he took last year at Anchorage is a tough memory to overcome. My sense is he needs a massive injection of confidence and Gwoz has been doing that with the rotation. However, at this stage in the season, the prime directive is to do what's best for the team and clearly Great Brittain seems to be the man. I agree with you, we dont want to give up on this lad, if only because we don't want to wake up one morning having to start Gunzo Humeneck in goal.

Ha ha, I had to look up Gunzo Humeniuk. He wouldn't be so bad--a couple Stanley Cups and an induction into the Illinois Hockey Hall of Fame!

If Murray isn't here, then our resident "DJ Jashko" would be the back up. I actually downloaded one of his podcasts. Not bad. If he can stop pucks like he can "ENGAGE BEATS," he wouldn't be so bad of a choice.

I just think that you shouldn't write off goalies--Murray may develop that missing confidence, and some of us could look silly for writing him off. But as to THIS year...I agree it's Brittain's year to lead the team down the stretch. Someone should put together a montage of Manno's freshman year for inspiration.

Gunzo had a store in my community, don't know if it's still there. But, to be fair, backing up Glenn Hall wasn't exactly the toughest job in the world, considering he had a streak of over 500 starts, in the pre-mask era (that works out to every minute of every game for 7 seasons). That's insane. And under those circumstances, my grandmother could have been his backup!

Speaking of Hall, at the '66 NC in the twin cities, the Pioneers were watching some Stanley Cup highlight films in the hotel (probably provided by Jeff Jennings, whose dad owned the Rangers) when the film showed a spectacular, otherwordly, impossible save by Hall. And Buddy Blom had that save replayed over and over and over again. When giving the starting lineups in the Stadium, the PA guy used to say: "In goal, Number 1, Mister Goalie, Glenn Hall." The league made 'em knock that off during the playoffs. But he WAS Mr. Goalie, oh yes, indeed he was.

I'm not meaning to bash him. I'll admit that he has improved this year and that he still could improve. I don't see him getting to the same level as Sam ever. Sam is a very gifted goalie. I just am looking at it from a numbers perspective which when push comes to shove that's really all that matters with GT's. Here's where I disagree with a fair amount of others on the boards. I don't think it's a confidence thing purely, I think it's talent. The gap in talent from a kid that is 13th versus 71st in SP is huge. He's slower and he doesn't see the puck as well-especially on close range follow up shots on the low side near the pipes. We've had an incredible run of GT's in the five year's I've been attending games. No doubt we're spoiled. If this team is going to get to Minny (I'm talkin third time's a charm here) (and I still have doubts that they will) Sam has to get dialed in. That and the D corps need to stop the BS with the puck and most importantly everybody needs to get in the game mentally for the whole 60 minutes. That's why I think this weekend is super important. We need to smack the **** out of the Gophs.

Well, you're exactly right about the garden pests and may have hit the twin quin as regards Murray. For sure, something seems to be missing. When he's "dialed in," Sammy seems to know where the puck is going before the shooter does, a most helpful attribute for a goaltender.

UNO the sleeper in the WCHA pile up has the toughest schedule by far going down to the finish line. Wisco, AA, Pios, Dogs. It's going to be interesting to see what they do.

I liked what Gwoz did with the goalies so far. His plan was to alternate them until one clearly won the #1 job or use the rotation if they both played well. That plan had to be scrapped when Adam got hurt. Gwoz had to force feed a freshman into the starting role every game and Sam responded. Gwoz also knew that to ride a freshman goalie for the entire season was asking a lot and he would get tired. When Adam came back and was ready to get some starts, Gwoz rotated them and it worked well. Both goalies are fresh but the playoffs loom. With 8 games to go it looks like Gwoz is trying to position the team to peak in March and April. He is going to start Sam on Friday and if all goes well Sam will probably play Saturday. Its no secret that statistically Sam is better than Adam and it looks like Gwoz wants to ride Sam through the playoffs. It wouldn't shock me to see Adam get another start or two especially against MTU in the regular season and possibly in the first round of the playoffs if DU faces them. Once DU gets to Minneapolis for the Final Five, I see Sam getting every start thereafter.

All I know is I'm gonna watch a team of the "RIGHT" players sweep an "ALL-STAR" team. Again. The funny thing to me is that Luccia completely has dissed the lessons of Herb Brooks and their fans wonder why things have gone wrong. Minny fans: Do you still not understand what Herb was saying? DU fans, do we really want to go down the path that Herb was talking about avoiding? The right players, not the best players. Nuff said.

Before the season began the D corps were touted as the known strength of the team. Yet it seems that they are often the guilty parties when the opponent takes advantage of a breakdown leading to a breakaway or the odd man rush leading to a goal. Mental lapse? Got to be dialed in for 60 minutes. These 5 or 6 minute bursts of activity are truly exciting, but,,,:( won't cut it in the post season.

Yep, impressive to get it for three of the four years. Congratulations to Chay Genoway for getting it for four years. I think only two other player have done that to date.

Redshirts--You have to be in school for 5 years since you can't get it as a freshman.
