Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Ah. I'm reminded of the Saturday Night Massacre, when a Boston bus boy got his signals crossed and made a pass at a DU player during an alumni event at a hotel. According to the survivors, it wasn't pretty.

Just imagine if women were able to beat the crap out of someone that made an unwanted pass at them.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

It's good to see the team hang on in a game that gets tough in the third period. Let's see another win, maybe with more breathing room, tomorrow night.

Amen! Now if we can get the blog quitting, nudy bar attending idiot from Alaska out of our forum, things would be even more peachy (but here comes tex-mex!)

BTW, is that great business mind that went by the USCHO handle of Randy May still parking cars outside the World Toilet? Or did he sell that pawnshop and move on to newer and better things? I would have thought, based on emails he sent me, that he would have opened a "classy" booby bar by now.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

After a bit of time to cogitate on this win over CC, I'm reminded of a few things. First, this team was not pegged to score many goals in games this season. Yet they do. This team, as perceived by many, was supposed to be a rebuilding project on offense, yet they score 5 goals per game. Tonight, albeit being "hot" themselves in the WIN column, they just beat a "hot" CC team on their humongous ice. lol. Those of us who have followed this rivalry KNOW that any win in this rivalry is a valued win - no matter what form it takes. To me, this was a great win. But, I'm not satisfied and I doubt the Pioneer players are. Tomorrow is the next "biggest game of the season." Sports are fun this way, as there are HUGE games throughout the schedule. Yet, these games with our arch rival just seem to mean just a bit more. The game tomorrow night will dictate "everything." If DU can win tomorrow night (which they will -- big) will in effect end CC's season. We will still need a half point the rest of the way to win the Gold Pan, but demoralizing your rival this early in the season is a great accomplishment. PREDICTION FOR SATURDAY? DU 5, CC 1.

The grapevine has it that Schwartz and Juicy are out tomorrow for the game. LOL!

I think I know who that favors....

The entire last minute of the game looked like a rugby scrum. Bodies were flying all over the place. Schwartz being out is going to hurt CC in a big way.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

I'd imagine the guys were brutal on Juho. He got taken down like a steer at a rodeo. But I'd also imagine they're proud of him for standing up for his mates and himself. I didn't see who it was Schwartz and that other CC ***-hole cheap-shotted along the boards, but we all know how dangerous those situations can be. And we also know it came after the horn had sounded. Off the top of my head, I can't remember the last time a DU goalie skated across the ice to get in on the fun. Tip of the hat for Juho. And lots of respect.

After reading DG's description of events (after TV went dark) I'm even more impressed with Jussi. Boys will be boys. But Jussi's da man.

It's nice to see the old gang provide such valuable analysis here as DG wrestles with the eternal questions over on his blog - Does Scott Owens resembling Ron Jeremy give him a leg up in picking up babes? Does Gwoz's daughter really resemble Stormy Daniels? How did such a pudgy little fella ever get that banner in the rafters in the old barn anyway? Is it more socially accepted to tell ***** jokes if you're a life long bachelor? Why did the idea of a "code red" turn out to be so laughable? Will the new XXX jersey fit if a white out is declared?

Hey CC, I got two words for ya ....

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

I'm going on record now as saying that I think this DU team will run away with the WCHA. You guys have an unbelievable team, and all I can do is shake my head while I congratulate you for the *** kicking you handed CC tonight, even though I didn't think CC played badly, aside from the freakin' faceoff circle. The two best recent DU teams I can recall were the 02(?) team who lost at Yost in the tourney, and the 05 repeat National Championship team. I think this team might be better than both of those. They have amazing talent, and they have the best work ethic I have seen in years from DU. My hat is off to your team.

Kind words from a Tiger fan.

This scoring by committee, playing as a team and hard work have to be the keys to Pios current success. I don't think any DU fan thought they would be 9-1-0 to start the season and averaging over 4 goals a game. Didn't seem possible. There's a long season ahead, but everything looks Crimson and Gold right now.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Not positive, but I'm pretty sure Peter Mannino sidled past me to get out of my row late in the game. Angelo Ricci was sitting in that row for most of the game, so I'm guessing someone up there is a DU Athletics person who I wouldn't know. Kind of nifty.

Thanks for the confidence, and I agree about the work ethic. It's good to see. Also, I'm pretty sure your memory as to whether that was '02 is accurate.

The scoring by committee really makes me think of those teams from 2000-2005. Also, good to see.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

It's just about the time that the CC fans who travelled from Springs for the game are arriving home. Hopefully CCTig made it safely.

What a fun night of DU hockey. DU came out with their foot on the accelerator and sans one "head up the old ar-se moment", absolutely dominated the first period. The second period wasn't bad for DU, although they gave up the 2nd goal. Sam didn't have much of a chance to save that one as the CC player made one hell of a shot. The last minute of the period really sealed the Tiger's fate in my eyes by taking the 5 minute contact to the head penalty that sent Winkler to the locker room (at first I thought Shephard was calling the Fonz for a 5 minute major for getting Pinky Tuscadero pregnant.) The third period was domination by the DU Pioneers, especially since they had 4+ minutes with a man advantage.

Other highlights of my evening at the game:

  • Finally getting to meet du78! It's been a long time in coming; only wish I had more time to talk with him.
  • Seeing DG at a game is always fun.
  • The Puck Swami was in attendance and I got to talk to him briefly.
  • Seeing one of my favorite CC fans, CCtig was cool. He's an idiot on these boards, but he's a pretty cool dude and fellow military service veteran.
  • Tyler Bozak hung out in our area for almost all of the game.
  • DU dominating if faceoffs was nice to see, but I believe that fact that Rylan Schwarts out of the game contributed greatly to that.
  • function(d,c){var a=this.length,b=Number(c)||0,b=b<0?Math.ceil(b):Math.floor(b);for(b<0&&(b+=a);b<a;b++)if(b in this&&this===d)return b;return-1}

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

****. I was hoping to meet '78, but I forgot he was in town.

That sucks. He came up between periods with DG to hang with us. But, since DG rolled out the red carpet in honor for him, they went back to their seats for the hockey action. Of course, they sad about 3 rows above the ice, right behind the Tiger bench. Might have been kinda smelly down there, though. :)
