Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Your math needs work

¿por qué? My math looks impecable. Or should have I said our offense scores well over 4 goals per game? Even with using common rounding rules, I'm there. Perhaps you need to work on your own math. And scoring 6 goals again tonight... ;) :D

Not to be a Gwoz echo here.... but this coming non-con weekend is CRITICAL in the PWR, but you won't see the effects until April. Please DU, I beg you - get though exams, forget the Turkey and forget CC. You have an appointment with UNH and Yale..... time to go to work :D

Agreed. I was glad to hear coach go there last night. My fear is that they'll look past Yale and lay an egg on Friday night. We're riding high right now. Yale is not playing at the level they have played the last two years but they will come in hungry. DeSmith, the UNH goaltender is #2 in the country for GAA and SP, and #1 for shutouts (4). They swept the Cloudies, beat BU in October and play them again this afternoon. Their only loss came to UMass on the road in OT. These games are super important. Let's hope the work ethic and mental focus stays high.

I was impressed by the lessons the PIOS took from the game Friday. We played more disciplined last night with the puck. This team can control the puck, like no other PIO team, I've seen. During the second last night we dropped out of that discipline for a good part of the period--reverted to swatting at the puck and got out shot 11-2 (after out shooting them 14-6 in the 1st) and took three penalties (giving up one goal on the PP late). Coming out and getting the quick PP goal early in the third was the frosting on the cake for the weekend. Loved that we had fun putting on some hard hits on them in the third. Doremus was throwing his body around big time.

A few observations on the weekend. The move to bring Gabe up the first line was a good one and I agree with Rycroft, I think he'll stay there. Sam showed that he is the #1 guy. He has the ability to track the puck and hold his physical space much better than UC. It's time to give him the full time job. His GAA is considerably better than UC--(2.00 vs 2.67) Loved the leadership from Chris and Nick last night. Nick was all over the ice--working like a mad man. Our D is flipping awesome when they stay disciplined. Didier was the man last night!

Best Rycroft quote of the weekend? This was told to me by daughter ( I was at the game) so I paraphrase...During the first period" The CC players look like bakers..making nothing but turnovers out there." It was cool to have Norm Jones back in the radio booth last night. He is a true professional and has been involved with front range hockey for over 30 years.

I hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving. See you next Friday night.

He's a rocket scientist. I'll take his math any day.

As 14ers told me...
"It doesn't take a rocket scientist, but it helps to have one around!"

A great life lesson there!

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

My random thoughts:

--Last night was great
--Matt Tabrum is easily the most improved player so far. He's bringing it right now...
--DU was just too kind and gifted a sympathy goal to cc in the first period last night
--Gabe Levin is a very good player
--cctig is a big, huge doofus who shouldn't be allowed out in public
--I thought that repositioning the goal judges was a WCHA thing...apparently it's not and it's kinda weird why DU chose to do this
--Bring back bagman! We need more bagman!
--Chris Knowlton is completely on fire. I believe he has 8 goals in the past 5 games. The power of the 'stache?
--Apparently Vizoroo was pretty lonely in the scoring thread last night
--At this point, I think injuries could be the only thing that will slow down this team. I agree with the people who say this team may be better than '05 and '02 ('02 still makes me sad)
--GO DU!!!!
--It seems like I had more on my mind last night, but that's it for now

I did notice a change there. What did they do with the goal judges?

The ncaa relaxed their goal judge requirement, now they're just recommended. They serve very little purpose w/ the video review system in place, may as well free that real estate up for seats.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

They were put up into the corners on the east side, on the goal lines. Apparently DU was planning to put them in the press box but decided it was too costly.

So they're essentially hitting the goal light there...how good is their view of everything?

Quick Norm Jones story. Back in the 80s, I was teaching at a school south of Denver. I had both of Norm's kids (one after the other) When his son was in my class, Norm was just finishing up the the Colorado Rockies. When his daughter was in my class, she had a crush on a high scoring forward, (****, now I can't remember his name, Kermit something) from the 1986 awesome team. During parent /teacher conferences, Norm and I would talk hockey, DU hockey. I don't think we ever talked about his kids. I recall seeing parents lined up behind him rolling their eyes and looking at their watches. I didn't care, I was talking to Norm Jones about DU hockey!!! I listened to him last night, he is still the man, "drive!!!, post!!!"

Eckelbarger...the Kerminator!

I do know, however, that the refs aren't too thrilled about this development. They prefer to have a second set of eyes...especially last year when the replay system at DU was having some difficulties and was essentially offline at times. Goal judges are just viewed as a second backup safety net by the refs.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Seems good, not obstructed...the gj's are still requested to have radios just in case input is needed, for what that's worth

Is that how the NHL was doing it before the lock out?

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Back home after a great weekend of DU hockey. What a sweep of the pussycats by the Pios. The whole team really impressed me. The players are playing for each other and the fans, especially the students. A great gesture by the team after the center ice stick salute to skate over to the student section and give props to them. The atmosphere on Saturday night was electric. We had a great time Friday in the Springs in a very hostile building. The LetsGoDU headquarters in the Broadmoor was epic. Props to the DU fans who came down and post-gamed at the headquarters including Dubbie, etc. It was great meeting a lot of the DU USCHO posters at the game Saturday; 14ers, Kscant, Cross-Czech, MagnessMan among others as well as hanging with DG, Swami and Bagman. Sorry I missed Duper and Chris. Ran into some old friends as well Like Jim Wiste and Don Cameron and met Dale Zeman for the first time. Those were the first two DU games I saw in person since the the 1978/79 season and what a pleasure to see them sweep CC. This unheralded freshmen class has some great talent on it. The 7-man D corps is as good as I have ever seen. The frosh d are playing like veterans out there. Young Gabe Levin has forced his way onto the top line with Nick Shore and Knowlton. Q Shore had a great game on Saturday. DU's Colorado Springs' boys domnated this weekend. All in all a great time was had by all!

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

One other observation from the weekend. The CC fans have not polluted this thread (at least not yet again.) Of course, JS and 'tig get a pass, but ronmexico is even worse in person than he is on here. Words cannot describe how quickly my "respectometer" plummeted last evening after meeting him at the game. I always reserve judgement for such cases where I see what people post on a chat board and then meet the person live. Oh my God!

So, it makes sense to me now with what he posts. It's not from the educated passion that he feels for his team. It's because he's a jaded moron. Told me to FU after I jokingly said that DU gave them a gift on CC's first goal. I looked at 'tig to say what's up with this dude and ronmexico called 'tig retarded. And then just walked away from 'tig when 'tig stayed around to talk to DG, myself, kscant and others.

I will say he didn't smell like he lives in a dumpster, but what I perceived from his intelligence certainly says it's a possibility. Have a good life Abe you Fing arsehole!

Every time that idiot posts drivel to an All Things DU thread that isn't hockey related, I'm reporting it. I hope everyone else does as well. It's about time for the nescient nitwit to achieve something like more suspensions on the board than me! :D  :D :p

But, I shall not end this post with negativity.

How about them Denver Broncos and Peyton Frickin' Manning? I also have it on good authority that our friend Paul Colborne, father of Jumbo Joe, attended that game. I'm sure he is having a good time tonight!

Jussi got the start in the Springs on Friday because of huge effort down there late last season. The coaches have full confidence in him.

3 starts for Jussi, two on the road, the team is 9-1-0 using a rotation, he's 3-0-0 and you want to bench him? Wow.

Now its always possible that Sam could start on Friday against Yale, get a shutout and start again on Saturday.

Last DU goalie to win in World Arena? Marc Cheverie March 6, 2010.

Also, the last two DU national championships have been born of a two goalie rotation. Gwoz won't pick a "guy" until the NCAA playoffs, or even the Frozen Four if we are so fortunate.
