Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

I was wondering - when is the last time that DU didn't have any players participating in the World Juniors Tournament? I guess coaches don't count; but just for conversation.... has DU ever had a coach participate before, like David is?

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Any particular reason Dakota Mermis decided to jump ship? Was playing time an issue???

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

That puts the roster at 23 with 4 goalies. :(

DU down to 17 skaters (6 D & 11 F) )with Allen injured and Jarrod Mermis in chateux bow wow.

San Antonio Rampage defeats Charlotte 5-2 to end 2012.

Rookie defenseman John Lee completed a Gordie Howe Hat Trick with his first career professional points (1-1-2) and a fight in the third period. Lee earned Second Star of the Game honors for his efforts.
Drew Shore netted an insurance goal at 16:55 to make it 5-2 Rampage. Shore extended his point-scoring streak to four games and now has two goals and five assists in that span.

Congrats to Johnny Lee!

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

I'm not sure what to think of Mermis leaving. I can't say that I noticed his play this year. Although this creates some concerns about the depth of roster, is it a big loss, skill-wise? I'm guessing that the fact that he was not drafted made him re-think his whole plan of attack on a professional hockey career.

What's up with the Mermis clan--one has played in only half the games this year, the other leaves 3 months into a college hockey career?

Gwozdecky says: "Dakota has decided to take his hockey career in a different direction and we wish him good luck."

Dakota no longer listed on DU roster.

I'm betting Gwoz said it through clenched teeth.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

I wonder if Dakota leaving is related to Jerrod being in the dog house.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Announcement of Dakota Mermis signing on London Knights' site. One of his teammates from Green Bay last year, Alex Broadhurst, is on the team. FYI, the addition of Dakota places 9 d-men on London's roster. They must have promised him the world as they are already the first place team in the OHL. If they make him one of their top 6 d-men, he will be taking someone else's job on the team. That player probably won't be too happy.

Last two d-men to leave DU for the CHL have had mixed success. William Wrenn went to Portland and captained the team. He is property of the San Jose Sharks and is playing his first pro year in Alaska in the ECHL. Was one of the first cuts in San Jose's AHL camp. Keith Seabrook left DU for Calgary of the WHL. He bounced around the AHL being traded several times by his NHL teams. He was not under contract this year and began the season in Italy. He is no longer with the team.

Jarrod is still on the roster and it could have had something to do with it but I doubt it. My guess is this all has to do with lack of PP time and the chance to put up numbers like he did in the USHL. Dakota wasn't drafted last year and probably sees the chance of putting up some big numbers in the OHL as his chance of getting drafted this year. I see this is as Dakota trying to increase his draft value.

Sorry to butt in, but what makes him think if he didn't get drafted while on DU that he suddenly will get picked up on some other team.? Minutes or otherwise, scouts are not dumb. Riverboat gamble if you ask me. I hate to see guys leave as it is almost never really in their best interest.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Yes, I see what you are saying manurespreader .. .. the Hunters know nothing about talent, have a crappy organization and they certainly don't develop players. HAHAHA . . .. time will tell.

Neither does George Gwozdecky and DU is always a terrible team. Look at Tyler Bozak for instance, what a bum he is.
