Adrian Hockey: Season 9

Re: Adrian Hockey: Season 9

I didn't see any of it, but not a good look. No question about that. 25 penalty minutes tonight from two freshmen that contribute quite a bit (Boyd and Dunn). Boyd also leads the team in PIM. Dunn had 10 minors going into tonight, and that was it. We can't be doing that. Before tonight, our PIMs were way down from years past. 12.1/game going into tonight. Some of that went out the window tonight.

Like I said. Get it fixed, and go compete again.

Not a good night to be a Bulldog. The girls can't hang on to a 2-0 lead and end up with a tie, and the guys do...that. Knowing the way my night has gone so far, Ferris will probably cough one up tonight in Alaska. That would make perfect sense.

I see Adrian has dropped a few positions. They need to start playing a team game. Selfish penalties and selfish play has hurt this team in quite a few games, even though they won most of them. Go back and watch some videos of past games, it's quite interesting.

In what way? Adrian seems to be firing on all cylinders with the exception of Friday at Stevens Point. I noticed the freshman goalie hadn't played in a while. I don't know if he was hurt or was out for disciplinary reasons or whatever but everything looked like it was chugging along pretty good.

Re: Adrian Hockey: Season 9

It was not disciplinary in any nature. Entmaa was sick. He may or may not have been back to full strength at Stevens Point. It doesn't matter. We didn't get it done out there.

There's going to be a rough patch in every season for every team. This is probably our turn.

Sick for 3 weeks? Whoooo... That's quite a bug! I understand not everything is going to go your way every night. I'm just wondering what hockeyfan is referring to by going back and watching videos. They have a ton of guys scoring and it's pretty well spread out. Unsure what has been selfish of late other than the couple of late penalties from Friday. Like I said, from my vantage point (only been to one game but watch most on the web) the team seems to be clicking with the exception of Friday night.

Re: Adrian Hockey: Season 9

That pretty well tells you what Entmaa had, doesn't it?

Well, we do have a big freshman class this year. They simply have to adjust to playing in front of hostile road crowds, even if it is this late in the season. It is different than playing in juniors. They're going to do bone-headed things from time to time that are going to send us through the roof. I was a knucklehead at times when I was 21, too. *shrug*

We dropped a game at Norbert. We dropped one at Stevens Point. There's nothing we can do about either one of those now. Focus on CUW, and don't let those games beat us again.

Oh. I forgot this is where the experts hang out. I'll leave the coaching to Krug. Maybe hockeyfan ought to replace him.

High powered offense with scoring well spread out. Smothering D. 14 shots against at St. Norbert. When is the last time that happened? 11-0 win at Aurora? What's that got to do with anything?

Convincing wins over Williams and Oswego.

Best team in the country Hands down.

You've got it nailed. 🙄

Well, I have been here since the start of the program. :p

We did hold Finlandia to 8 earlier this season.

A little criticism is fine once in a while, as long as we're not taking personal shots at players in particular. We do have things to work on. Personally, I'd like to see us shore up our penalty kill. It's nice to have some life in this thread, instead of me just talking to myself all season. I do enough of that as it is.

I know you have been Hammer. I've met you in the past I believe. I've followed the program from pretty much day 1 as well. Jumped on the fan forum years ago (probably in its hay day). Hadn't really had time to stay in the "gossip" but a recent change of hours with my work schedule has allowed me to follow more Bulldog hockey.

The Dawgs are good. As simple as that. Better than last year if you ask me. Probably the best we've seen in 4-5 years in Adrian.

A 5-4 win at St. Norb and a 2-1 loss, outshooting them 32-14 ain't too shabby. A 3-2 win earlier this year vs. Stevens Point. Wins at Marian (they look to be good again), Nazareth, vs. Williams, at Oswego, and a 6-4 loss on the road last weekend. Pretty good resumé.

I have watched all the big games this year and every game since the new year. I see no selfishness or stupid penalties (until Friday night). Just a good team whose sky is the limit! Bad night at Stevens Point but that happens to everyone. Hopefully it's just a shot in the arm reminding Adrian that they are human and need to play the games and not just go through the motions.

I'm retiring for the night. I hope to see the guys get two victories and get their 'A' game back this weekend.

Re: Adrian Hockey: Season 9

If you've been around, there's a very good chance that you've met me.

I'm in a good mood tonight, after the girls went out to River Falls and got a big, big win.

Re: Adrian Hockey: Season 9

Sorry. Will go back to just watching and cheering for the Dawgs and keep my observations and opinions to myself. Hopefully they bounce back and work together the rest of the season.

Nonsense. You haven't done anything wrong yet.

Re: Adrian Hockey: Season 9

I agree that the team is better offensively this year. More secondary scoring for sure. A little work on the PK would definitely help.

Re: Adrian Hockey: Season 9

Adrian 12
CUW 2

This was every bit the blowout the scoreboard says it was. It was one of those nights where everything was going in the net. Just ask Bryan Yim, as he went 4-2-6 on the night with a +5. The first goal of the night went off of two CUW players on its way into the net, and there were a couple more that the goaltender thought he had, only to find it tucked into the net, between the skate and the post. It was just our night.

Now, then. About the penalty shot. One of our players was in on a breakaway late in the third period and was hooked off the puck. The score was 12-1 at the time. There was no need to award Adrian a penalty shot at that point. If it's anything close to resembling a competitive game, then fine. But not with 1:50 left in a 12-1 game. Call the 2:00 and be done with it. Instead, we sent out Josh Shellman to take the penalty shot, as he and Butzow were the only two in the lineup tonight that didn't have a goal on the season yet. Shellman missed, and on we went.

I suspect that tomorrow's contest, the last regular season home game for 4 graduating players (Brent Sauve is a junior, but he is graduating this spring) will be a much closer affair.

Re: Adrian Hockey: Season 9

Thanks in part to seven penalties in the first two periods and allowing two PP goals, SNC and CSS tied 2-2 today.

That means SNC and Adrian are tied heading into the last weekend. But Adrian holds the tiebreaker - goal diff in conference play.

SNC has a Thur/Friday home/home with MSOE, while Adrian goes to Duluth. I'm hoping the Saints can steal a point, of course.

Re: Adrian Hockey: Season 9

We've got a lot of water to haul before we can worry about who hosts the Harris Cup final. St Scholastica made that very clear this weekend. We're going to have our hands full there, and after that, in dealing with Marian (likely) in the conference semis.

EDIT: The West rankings are going to be very interesting this week.

Re: Adrian Hockey: Season 9

Okay, here's what the NCHA looks like right now.

1) We've discussed Adrian-SNC. Adrian holds the tiebreaker.

2) The top two seeds in each division are already set in stone. In the North, it's 1) SNC 2) CSS. In the South, it's 1) Adrian 2) Marian. None of these four teams can be caught from behind in any sense. Adrian holds the tiebreaker over Marian.

3) Finlandia's season is already over. They've played their 25. It is certain that Aurora and Northland will join them next weekend.

4) CUW holds the tiebreaker over Lake Forest, should they end up tied. They're tied for the last spot in the South. A midweek bus trip awaits one of them to Marian.

5) Lawrence is 2 points back of MSOE. MSOE has a home-and-home with SNC. Lawrence finishes with Lake Forest. Probably the biggest implications of the week right there, regardless of seeding. Lawrence holds the tiebreaker over MSOE, going 1-0-1 over the Engineers.

My guess is that the seeds do not change over the weekend, and we're looking at MSOE travelling to St. Scholastica, and CUW heading to Marian for one-game playoffs, with the winners going to SNC and Adrian, respectively. I also suspect that we're looking at SNC-St Scholastica and Adrian-Marian in two weeks, in a pair of series which saw the higher seeds each take 3 points from the lower seeds in the regular season.

Re: Adrian Hockey: Season 9

RE: Hammer's analysis. I agree with your take here. If it ends up SNC/CSS and Adrian/Marian in a playoff I think anything can happen, don't you? Both of the underdogs could jump up and win.

I haven't looked, but I believe those are weekend series, correct? If so, that does tilt things more towards the home teams.
