Adrian Hockey: Season 9

Re: Adrian Hockey: Season 9

Is it true the UWSP/Adrian game might be played in Wisconsin, if the Lady Bulldogs (do you call them that?) are hosting?

Re: Adrian Hockey: Season 9

I really dislike writing posts like this.

UWSP 5
Adrian 2

Final

It was a 3-2 game, plus a couple empty-netters in the last minute. I can live with this. I don't like it, but I can live with it.

Now, about the 800 pound elephant in the room. Apparently one of our guys got hit by the boards in the waning seconds. The angle from my seats prevents me from getting a good look at it live. Fine. After that, we nearly had a brawl on our hands with 1.1 left. I didn't care for that part one bit. That's a terrible, terrible look on our part, especially when we're frustrated and about to lose. We lost our composure. I didn't like anything I saw at the end. We can't be having things like that. That's a poor way to close out a game, and a season. Period. End.

Thank you to Adam and Chris, who closed out their careers tonight. Also thank you to Pat and Brent, who did not play this evening, and had their collegiate careers come to a close. Thank you for everything, boys. It was our pleasure.

Out.

Adrian is an extremely talented team, and from what I saw this year the most talented in D3 hockey by a significant margin. It is obvious that Coach Krug has the recruiting aspect of running a D3 program nailed. That said, he will continue to hamper Adrian's chances of a national title until he learns to get his own temper under control. The behavior I saw from him in the minutes just before this incident, and frequently during the two game series at St. Norbert, sets an example for his team that has negative consequences. I pull for all NCHA teams to do well on the national stage, and I hope Adrian can get this corrected and realize their full potential.

Re: Adrian Hockey: Season 9

I concur with Arete. The pieces are all there as they are loaded with talent and have the experience of being in big games against big-time opponents. SNC was there for a while so I know the feeling and how bad it stings when you know your talent is second to none but you just can't quite break thru. Krug as the leader of his team needs to take a long look at his approach. Yelling at the officials shouldn't be a full time job and he can't be completely beside himself anytime something isn't to his liking. I know their PIMs were down but discipline and mental approach aren't just measured in PIMs. There needs to be a better mindset to be able to overcome adversity. If he lets himself learn from this the team will do the same.

Re: Adrian Hockey: Season 9

You might want to go back to 2:23:20 to see where the entire incident started. Do you want your kid playing for that display? Every team is a reflection of it's leader. I saw the same thing in De Pere and the antics of a few players after the horn...in a win no less. This group will always be seeking their first championship as long as the leadership lacks composure. Once their leader makes the conscious decision to be a controlled, disciplined commander, then this talent will produce it's first national championship. I'm guessing he will have learned that by 2016-17 if given another opportunity. Some scriptural leadership advise: "He caused the storm to be still, so that the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad because they were quiet. So he guided them to their desired haven." ~ Psalm 107:29-30
