Just my opinion of course here but I went to Scotland this last May and the weather was great, that is the exception certainly. I really enjoyed it though and would go back.

I'd try not to go to Greece in July or August, it is roasting then and if you go out of season, say to Rhodes, it is much cheaper, and I've had a great time in Athens too. My daughter tells me that Prague was great and of course you could do a lot worse than Switzerland if it's summer. It's not the beach, but they have great hiking and fabulous views. I've always wanted to go to the Basil indoors but never quite made it and it's in november.

In mexico the mayan riviera is younger, the pacific coast is the older set, but overall I'd pick Cabo as the best. There are some great all inclusive resorts there and the fishing is terrific too. I don't find it that dangerous there. I have been to the Caymans and they are great, but expensive. My experience is that Africa in general is not as safe and you have to be very careful there, though it can be done. I had a short vacation in Cape Town a few years ago that went fine.

One place i'm dying to go to is the Amalfi Coast for a week.

I know this is another Twin Cities question, but where is a good spot to gather my friends for dinner on a Saturday Night? Preferably, this place is local and serves alcohol.

You'll have to be a bunch more specific than "Twin Cities". There are probably about 100 places we could list that are within the Twin Cities.

IF you go, whatever you do, stay away from Maltese wine. I always like to sample the local vintages wherever I travel, and this was the only place that I've really regretted it. Horrible, horrible stuff - who knew it would be hard to grow tasty grapes on a desert rock island? :)

(oh, but definitely DO go to Malta - a truly fascinating place!)

Well more than 100. The Twin Cities - as in the metro area - has about 3 million people in it. There are a lot of restaurants with alcohol around here.

Since my host lives in Minneapolis, how about there? And since it's the night before a big race, either a pizzeria or Italian place. I need my carbs.

You might even want to ask them. I've found that people who live in the city can get pretty territorial as to where they will and will not go to eat - Uptown, Nordeast, Downtown, etc. It's not everyone who's like that, but there's enough of them to think about it.

Some guy wearing a red sweatshirt with some kind of a weasel on the front of it told me a few days ago that they have excellent pasta at The Gay 90's. FWIW

I was there while on my school training cruise for about 3 days in July 2010. Loved it, really hoping to go back someday. The heat sucked (probably 100+) but not a cloud in the sky.

Can't say I got into any wine though ;)

If you're looking for pasta I recommend Broder's hands down. Pasta is made fresh daily, they don't screw around with authentic ingredients and it's also amazingly affordable. Also consider Al Vento, Zagat and the aforementioned Bar La Grassa. For a slight twist I love Sea Change - they only have linguini as an app (it's outstanding) but they also have great seafood if you're into that.
