Re: A Thread for Travel: Trips/Advice/Ideas

I'll say this for home: it's a lot cheaper than traveling.
Vladivostok. I hear it's nice this time of year.
While there is a saying about Cornell fans traveling to Vladivostok, it's only intended to apply when there's actually a hockey game there to watch.
New Haven has GREAT pizza and a pretty gorgeous university too, can't remember the name of it though for the life of me ;)
They do indeed have great pizza (as well as the purported origin of the hamburger); it's often one of the highlights of a trip up to Connecticut to visit that university you mentioned.
Why would you want to go anywhere? You live at the center of the Universe.
It gets noisy here! Nothing wrong with getting away every now and again.
Santorini!!! But - when are you getting married? Greece is awesome August/September.
We've actually considered Greece (my sister and brother-in-law went there for their honeymoon), but we're a bit nervous about the whole financial crisis thing. We're keeping a close eye on the Euro situation because it would be a lot more affordable of a destination if they stopped being tied to the Euro. We're looking at early June, not sure how the weather there is then.

Where should I go on my honeymoon?
How much money are you willing to spend? Those were wonderful suggestions, but I hear the White Mountains are wonderful that time of year.

Disclaimer: Me and the Mrs. went for our 20th up there and I spent 3 summers @ camp up there back in the 60's.

Just returned from 3 days sailing aboard the 94' windjammer Heritage out of Rockland ME. My wife and I, our 3 kids (26, 24 and 21) and my son-in-law. Celebrating our 30th wedding aniversary. My wife and I did this 27 years ago, same schooner and the same captains, husband and wife team (who also built and own the boat). 30 passengers, 6 crew and the capts. Great weather, outstanding food (80 lbs. of lobster cooked up on shore) and wonderful sailing.
Not for everyone (berths are not exactly spacious, and the "heads" are on the top deck), but we loved it again!

Rent a house on St. John for a week. You can do some touristy things on that island but most touristy people don't go there (hence the recommendation).
