I think the candidate pool might consist of any/all of the following:
CURRENT D-1 HCs
* Rick Bennett
FORMER D-1 HCs
* Paul Pearl
* Tim Whitehead
CURRENT D-1 Associate/Assistants (with HE ties)
* Ben Barr
* Scott Borek
* Jerry Keefe
* David Lassonde
* Albie O'Connell
* Bill Riga
* Mike Sousa
FORMER D-1 Associate/Assistants (with HE ties)
* Mike Bavis
* Darren Yopyk
I know hoky loves rick bennett and he'd probably be good for umass but things haven't gone so well the last couple years for him.
Exactly. He maximized his opportunity to win it all with the talent Leaman left for him and now he's struggling to get back to that level with his own recruits. It could be an opportunity for him to get a nice raise and land in a situation where things can't get much worse, whereas if he stays and things at Union keep trending downward where does that leave him? His value may never be higher than right now.
Did he not leverage a national title into a significant pay raise at Union?
Can UMass pay all that much for a hockey coach at this point? Football is losing money like crazy.
The fans in western mass will support a good product and the facilities are better than most schools in the league. Not an easy place to recruit to but who considers lowell, Massachusetts a destination? (No offense). That hasn't hindered norm bazin.
Can you imagine the Maine thread if Whitehead were to get the job? Especially if Umass becomes more competitive than Maine?![]()
Right, but its not like we hear about Norm winning recruiting battles... or anything about Lowell recruits

$244,400 in 2015 per Boston Herald.
With that amount of coaching salary and an administration willing to spend money on recruiting, this program could be competitive. I get the feeling that this new AD is going to achieve success in hockey.
