A New Coach for UMass...

Re: A New Coach for UMass...

Generally speaking, what is the average of a coaching salary in college hockey?
I'm guessing average is about 175 plus bonuses. UMass has to change the culture, not just hire a coach. So a big raise, unlimited travel, someone with top recruiting reputation, especially within Massachusetts. Maybe a lowell assistant.?

someone is interviewing today....current head coach (not named bennett)

I'm not sure if his name has come up, but what about Mark Denehy? He was an assistant there a while ago. I don't think it would be an upgrade for him but it would probably pay more.

Re: A New Coach for UMass...

As if finishing in last place isn't enough, now you want it to be a vacated last place finish??? ;)

I mean Micheletto already tried the rental path Cal is such a fan of. Didn't work out great with Vatrano for them though

I don't know if you guys saw this article http://www.masslive.com/umasshockey/index.ssf/2016/03/umass_ad_ryan_bamford_to_head.html

Has Bennett as frontrunner but I think Rick would have got the job already if he was getting it. He's not playing, hometown boy, etc etc. etc. The deal with Rick is that spectacle he put on vs RPI a couple of years ago, when he punched an opposing player. Do you give the reins to a program in flux to a coach who has issues??? Question is, can he win w/out Nate's players that Leahman recruited? Answer is, not yet.
