Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

Even worse was how many so-called liberal pundits and media were taking Perry's side without looking at the case against him. Left wing bias my @ ss.

That too. It was unreal how bad that story was reported.

Today in Republicanism we highlight Wisconsin GOP House Candidate Glenn Grothman.

1. Claims women earn less because “money is more important for men.”
2. Advocates for seven-day work weeks.
3. Worries gays are using sex-ed classes for recruitment.
4. Warns of a “war” on white men.
5. Wants to classify single parenthood as child abuse.
6. Thinks low-income people are fleecing taxpayers.
7. Champions voter suppression.
8. Opposes water sanitation.
9. Thinks Planned Parenthood is targeting Asian Americans.
10. Will not abide by Kwanzaa.

Just a few months ago, he went so far as to argue that Secretary of State John Kerry upset God by trying to stop Uganda’s anti-LGBT measure.

Gah. The next three months are going to be a gong show up here.

Senate race with an incumbent Dem in a red state...a House race where the incumbent is 81 years old...a three-way race for governor...proposals for marijuana legalization, minimum wage hike to $9.75, and mining development rights in Bristol Bay (a major salmon spawn and a BIG FREAKIN' DEAL.) Oy.

It's lovely that groups are spending like $1,000,000 per capita.

If I could go back to high school graduation and decide what to do all over again, I'd be a lobbyist or a drug dealer. :)

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

1. The United States is a secular nation with ethics, moral, principles, and values established through history from varied sources that reflect our core value, 'e pluribus unum' = 'from many, one.'

2. The United States respects persons of all colors, faiths, and families of man. The practice of bigotry against any person(s) for any reason is hereby prohibited in the United States and all of its territories and possessions, and in all of its States, Counties, and Cities, in perpetuity. Violations of this ban, regardless of source, shall be considered a felony punishable by ten years in prison at hard labor.

3. This Amendment takes effect upon its enactment.

As long as I get to be the sole judge of what constitutes bigotry, then we're all good. :D

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

So the indictment of Rick Perry was politically motivated? Not by Democrats.
http://www.usatoday.com/story/opini...democratic-party-editorials-debates/14296815/

Although the grand jurors have vehemently denied any political motivation, I do believe they were largely D-leaning, so there were Democrats involved somewhere in the process. Then again, they did no-bill on two of the counts offered by the special prosecutor.

Also, the organization that brought the complaint originally is left-leaning, but they're anything but an arm of the state party. They seem to be more Naderites than anything else.

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

An amendment is unnecessary. A simple federal law would suffice.

Not for long. The Court is going to rule sexual orientation as a suspect classification like race or ethnicity very soon, certainly within a decade, and with that comes strict scrutiny. Any federal law would run right into an unconstitutional wall.

Considering that one of the qualifers for suspect classification is that the "group has historically been discriminated against, and/or have been subject to prejudice, hostility, and/or stigma, perhaps due, at least in part, to stereotypes," it's all over but the shouting.

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

No.

Nope, merely expressing my amusement at the sophomoric antics. I found it funny in a "did he really just do that" kind of way.

Deep breaths, Francis.

SOrry, I completely misread it then. I thought you were doing the whole, "ZOMG, DID HE MAKE A JOKE?!? HE'S MAKING MINNESOTANS LOOK LIKE MORONS! WHHHHAAAARGARBL!!!!!"

:o

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

Given that he was a successful professional comedian, I think it was pretty obvious he was just going for "wow that's dumb" humor.

I didn't blame the GOP for using it like I didn't blame the Dems for using McCain's "zombie walk" debate photo. Those cheap shots are frankly part of what makes politics funny. They are actually themselves a good example of "wow that's dumb" humor, and anybody who is stupid enough to be swayed by them won't be able to find the voting booth anyway.

Hey now, that's sexist. If this passes, any congressperson who voted for it should be charged with a felony. :D

I agree that using that video to poke fun or even try to score some sort of cheap shot is to be expected. What's funny about this situation, is that the way the MN GOP is using it is far more embarrassing to them then it is to Franken. They are basically suggesting that what Franken did and what Jim Hagedorn wrote are the same thing. They think that, because Democrats called out Hagedorn for his blog posts, but not Franken for holding traffic cones up to his chest, they are hypocrites. But really, it just goes to show the degree to which the MN GOP doesn't get it.

While it is true that hypocrites often do not recognize their own hypocrisy, I think this is a case where the MN GOP assumes the typical low info voter lacks the time, ability or desire to draw the comparison. This is a tactical choice to take the low hanging fruit and not worry about a counter-narrative, because parsing the counter-narrative is too much trouble for a lot of voters. It's also a way to set up a false equivalence later, so that genuinely sexist statements from the right can be met with "well, of course, there's controversy on both sides..." to make it go away. It's probably an effective way to detoxify the issue, sadly enough.
