2nd Term Part VII: You May Like Your Doctor But You Can't Keep Her

Re: 2nd Term Part VII: You May Like Your Doctor But You Can't Keep Her

Will Joe ever post something other than a question? Will the derp brigade come out in full force? Will the joker continue his dasterdly hi jinks? Find out next week. Same bat time, same bat channel.

Will President Feckless ever grow a pair?

Obama, speaking to reporters at the White House, said that the U.S. government is "deeply concerned" by reports of Russian "military movements" inside Ukraine, warning that any violation of Ukraine's sovereignty would be "deeply destabilizing."

"There will be costs for any military intervention in Ukraine," he said, without specifying what those costs might be.

....

Officials say Obama may retaliate by canceling a trip to Russia this summer for an international summit and could also cut off trade discussions with Moscow. But it's unclear whether those moves will have any impact on Russia's calculus in Ukraine.

Gee, ya think? I'm sure Vlad is quaking in his boots over Bammy maybe not going to the G-8 in Sochi.

BTW, does anyone else think that the late Tom Clancy was rather prescient with the plot of his last novel, Command Authority?

Re: 2nd Term Part VII: You May Like Your Doctor But You Can't Keep Her

Obama may retaliate by cancelling a trip to Russia this summer? Let it go ahead, we could use Michelle not spending millions of dollars on lavish vacations.

Re: 2nd Term Part VII: You May Like Your Doctor But You Can't Keep Her

Think we need a new thread on foreign policy? The Ukraine / Crimea looks like it's getting dicey. But will we remember the outrage(!) in a week?

What are we doing domestically while this "distraction" is occurring?

Re: 2nd Term Part VII: You May Like Your Doctor But You Can't Keep Her

What are we doing domestically while this "distraction" is occurring?

Rounding up Christians and putting them in concentration camps, going door to door in the South and Midwest and seizing all guns and remaking the White House into a mosque.

Obama may retaliate by cancelling a trip to Russia this summer? Let it go ahead, we could use Michelle not spending millions of dollars on lavish vacations.

Another talking point that has already been debunked.

Questions prompt discussion. Or did you skip that in "If I shout louder than you, I must be right" class in college?

The "I'm just asking questions" bit has run its course, and makes you look feckless. At some point you need to be able to posit your own opinions or you're about on par with Glenn Beck. This isn't grad school, and you aren't some professor leading a "discussion" with the Socratic method.

Crimea is occupied...and eastern Ukraine could be next. Fault Obama if you have the US solution.

Alright. Here's the resident conservatives chance to shine. What exactly is the policy...start a land war in Asia with a nuclear Russia?

Nuke 'em 'til they glow. Start by tying you to the first warhead, a la Slim Pickens in Dr. Strangelove. It's not possible to have an intelligent discussion with you on any important matter. I'd have a better chance of getting a cogent argument out of the bobbing head dog on my rear package shelf.

There are many things we and the West must do to confront this naked aggression short of armed conflict. In the last century there was a dictator who demanded control of a an area in another country occupied by people ethnically from his country. When the European powers caved, he promised he had "no further territorial demands." That one didn't turn out well. And neither will this one if our first instinct is to wet our pants at the prospect of standing up to another totalitarian thug.

Actually, you can partially fault the US for starting the mess. http://govtslaves.info/us-government-caught-funding-coup-ukraine/ And let's see how many of the loonies stop at the italicized paragraph and use that to refute.

Usual bleating out of knuckledraggers but with no solutions. I get amused by seeing people like Graham or Rubio cricitizing the Prez.....but then offering no ideas of their own. Don't they realize they look like total idiots?

Nobody, and I mean nobody, wants to start WWIII over the section of the Ukraine. I've got a crazy idea though. Why not have the Ukraine solve its own problems!!! I mean, they have an army, right? There's only 6,000 Russian troops in one section of their country. Presumably top military planners have already considered that this may happen and plan for it.

So, what exactly is the US supposed to do here? Not much more than Bush II did in Georgia back in 2008.

For starters, the US should freeze all Russian assets, kick it out of the G-8, and slap sanctions on its energy exports. When unemployment hits 40% in Russia, Putin will re-assess whether his mini Soviet Union fantasy is worth it.

C'mon. We all know that Benghazi Graham is ALWAYS right on foreign policy.

First, I don't think there will be a ban on Russian energy exports as the US and global economies are all too fragile right now. While we produce more oil than we have in a long, long time, Russia is still a consideration on the global market and thus will impact energy prices here. This is basic stuff from any international economics class.

Second, even if Russia crumbles around him and became 100% gay, Putin will never re-assess anything because that would mean admitting to an error. It just won't happen.

Lastly, but not least important...ly, if the world were to go to war with Russia over the Crimean peninsula and just smack the hell out of it, the dangers of a scattered Soviet era nuclear arsenal is simply too great. Who knows what maniacs would end up with the weapons. While the missiles wouldn't be of great use, the armaments would be.

I wouldn't advocate for a total ban on Russian energy, but I would slap sanctions on it as in restricting its demand. Obviously you'd stop short of causing a worldwide depression, but I'd be asking our so-called friends the Saudis for example or the Kuwaitis to start jacking up demand in response to the anticipated shortfall from Russia. No, you're most likely not going to get China to go along but if Europe does (and most likely will provided there's another supplier out there) that kicks Putin right in the nuts, which is what he needs right now.
