2nd Term Part VII: You May Like Your Doctor But You Can't Keep Her

Re: 2nd Term Part VII: You May Like Your Doctor But You Can't Keep Her

Yeah, cause Bush II's bluster sure did wonders.

Bush? Reagan? How 'bout Ike? Oh, wait Hoover. That's it. It's Hoover's fault and Neville's merely cleaning up his mess. This weak duck and his even weaker duck SecState who just a few days ago was lecturing us on the dangers of global warming. Perhaps he and Neville could focus on spetsnaz and leave global warming to the scientists. He might start with ruthless enforcement of the Mitninsky Act, which he signed.

Re: 2nd Term Part VII: You May Like Your Doctor But You Can't Keep Her

You really need to freshen up your act. You repeat the same old applause lines for the ladies in the chorale and have convinced yourself they're just as funny now as they were 250 repetitions ago. There are lots of things that can be done short of "boots on the ground." And so far, Neville isn't doing any of them. In the words of General James Mattoon Scott he's a "criminally weak sister."

Do tell, oh great Opie, you beacon of neoconservative wisdom. What exactly, aside from the very sanctions and aide package being bandied about now in DC, would you have the US do? This ought to be good, but if it involves some sort of weird resurrection of either Reagan or Nixon's corpse I'm stepping off....

Just go back to Bush. Bush pussed out on Georgia. I wonder how in the hell John McCain is having a coronary now and sat on his hands while Putting went nuts there? Basically everyone's mentality changes depending on who's in the White House.

How about the host of Lingo from 1987? *ducks*

Yeah and no. Nobody was calling for Bush to start lobbing bombs at Russia during the Georgia crisis, so I'd ease up on the false equivalency a little. Any more of that and you're going to get a call from CNN to host one of their lame evening programs! ;)

Here's the facts. Fact #1: The Ukraine has a military. Fact #2: That country's leadership over the years has decided not to join NATO unlike their other former Soviet Republic counterparts in the Baltics.

So, given those Facts, why exactly should the US spend money, time, and energy to defend a country that maybe should have seen this coming at least back in 2004, if not 1991? I don't expect a coherent righty answer, but let the record show I offered them a chance....

EDIT: Looks like Americans are already reaching the right conclusion:

The latest research from YouGov shows that the American public has little appetite for any involvement in Ukraine. Asked whether the international community as a whole has a responsibility to get involved in resolving the situation in Ukraine, less than a third of Americans (30%) think that what is going on in Ukraine is the world's business [...]
Support for any US intervention to defend Ukraine against a Russian invasion is even lower. Only 18% say that the US has any responsibility to protect Ukraine, while 46% say that the US does not. Support for helping to protect Ukraine is higher among Republicans (26%) than among Democrats (13%) but just under half of both groups say that the US has no responsibility to defend Ukraine.

It's amazing how all of you ladies are evidently incapable of looking at this situation with anything other than overt partisanship. And how you're unable to visualize what the world might be like if Putin's able to reassemble the Soviet empire, as he has said repeatedly he intends to do. Maybe now's the time for that Nobel Peace Prize Neville won on spec to pay off. Here are some of the things we could do:

a. Vigorously enforce the Magnitsky Act to punish Putin and his kleptocrat buddies. Shut down their business activities in the US. Nothing. Nada.
b. NATO goes to a higher state of readiness
c. Move US Navy units into the Black Sea
d. Make it clear going forward that we will match or exceed any Russian financial offers to Ukraine.
e. Make it clear going forward that we consider the government in Kiev to be the only legitimate Ukrainian government.
f. Put Ukrainian NATO membership on the table once this crisis is over.
g. Establish a sanctions regime to punish Russia and Putin.
h. Make it clear the United States is moving forward with the Keystone
Pipeline and other measures to enhance our energy independence. And
that we will provide for the energy needs of our friends in eastern Europe.
i. Get whatever we can from the Security Council, even though Russia would
veto any resolution condemning them.
j. Get the EU foreign ministers, plus the United States, to issue the strongest
possible condemnation of Russia, with assurances that we're prepared to
punish them economically.
k. Expel Russia from the G-8 (they should have never been permitted to join).

And your weak duck, lefty, strawman about "boots on the ground" is so much piffle, because nobody's come within a mile of suggesting that. But you keep on deflecting, diverting and dissembling. Maybe nobody will connect the dots to Neville. For sure, he doesn't have a sign on his desk that says "the buck stops here."

Aaah, the hell with it. Bomb Russia and take Georgia and the Crimea back. While you're at it continue to occupy Afghanistan and take Iraq back. Appease McCain and Graham by sending ground troops into Egypt, Syria, and for heaven's sakes occupy Libya.

Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi.

Just out of curiosity, how much of this did we do after Putin invaded Georgia?

"We are all Georgians now."

What difference does it make? We're here, now. Maybe we should have learned a lesson from previous lack of resolve.

Are you saying the Bush administration lacked the resolve to deal with Putin?

Why does it matter what a previous administration did or did not do in a similar situation? Neville is president now. And has been for five years. It's been in all the papers. Why are you and the rest of the ladies continuing to engage in the Perma-campaign? Bush failures justify Neville's failures? Seriously? I've offered some possible US responses to this provocation. And you and the rest of the ladies continue to refight Iraq. Why not move your time machine up to today?

What are you, Hillary Clinton now??

When Hillary Clinton said that she was still SecState, under oath, and covering her ample a*s furiously about a debacle that occurred on her watch. Four dead Americans, remember? Other than that, exactly the same.

A little surprising that Republicans' favorite General, David Petraeus, thinks Hillary Clinton would be a great president.

Re: 2nd Term Part VII: You May Like Your Doctor But You Can't Keep Her

A little surprising that Republicans' favorite General, David Petraeus, thinks Hillary Clinton would be a great president.

That's pretty relevant to the mess Neville's got on his hands. And even less relevant to Hillary's testimony. Is the general on record absolving Hillary on Benghazi? When was this election proclaiming him the "Republicans favorite general?" Is it even remotely possible the general is positioning himself for a job in a Clinton (shudder) administration? All interesting. But none of it related in the slightest to the crisis in Ukraine. You guys are absolute masters at diverting attention. Dodge. Duck. Bob. Weave. Prevaricate. Temporize. When, exactly, do you plan to focus on Ukraine? If ever.
