2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

I'm a card-carrying member of the ACLU and went to DC to lobby against this type of crap. .

This is one area where the far leftern fringe of moonbats (Priceless) happens to fall into agreement with sensible conservatism (normal people like me) :) The other one, by the way, is anti-beercan-littering along our nation's highways; which is a fading practice to be sure thanks to our unity on drunk driving prevention and litter-shaming.

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

Does this mean Nixon's ineligible for the Teddy Kennedy "morality" award? Since Teddy never lost his "legislative effectiveness", a little killing and coverup along the way is acceptable?

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

Wow. An actual case of voter fraud.

In the midst of his 2012 GOP primary campaign for a Massachusetts state House seat, Jack Villamaino changed the party affiliation of nearly 300 people in his town of East Longmeadow. Days later, the same number of absentee ballot requests were dropped off at the town clerk’s office, a list that was almost a “name-for-name match” for those whose registration information Villamaino had altered.

Earlier this week, Villamaino pleaded guilty to felony charges of stealing ballots and changing the party affiliation of 280 Democrats during his campaign for state representative. A judge sentenced him to a year in jail, only four months of which he'll be forced to serve behind bars.

The remainder of that sentence will be suspended, and Villamaino will also be required to serve a year of probation. Villamaino's defense attorney had hoped the judge would throw out the felony conviction, while Hampden District Attorney Mark Mastroianni had sought additional felony charges for forgery and perjury.

Villamaino, a former East Longmeadow Board of Selectmen chairman who resigned last year amid the scandal, ultimately lost his Republican primary, and the GOP candidate subsequently lost to the Democrat in the race.

His wife, Courtney Llewellyn, is also facing charges stemming from the scandal, though she has pleaded not guilty and will appear in court later this month.

Not sure how voter ID would have helped though...

I love to be drunk, not I love drunks. Get it right already. Typical conservative. :D

Opie sorry to insult your hero Dick Nixon, but hey, much like your other hero GWB he's a cross, or better an albatross, that you're just going to have to bear. Funny how the two worst Presidents in most people's lifetimes both happen to be Republicans. Coincidence? I think not.

PS - Wasn't aware of a morality award for politicians, but wasn't that something GWB would have received? I mean he was all Christian conservative and all that. Yeah, he did send 5,000 American troops to their graves after starting a needless war, but what's a few thousand deaths amongst friends?

But he didn't kill any of them personally, did he?

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

Neither did Hitler, Stalin, etc Opie. Does that mean we absolve them of all responsibility?

The late Maury Chaykin had a line in War Games that I think fits here:

"Remember you told me to tell you when you were acting rudely and insensitively? Remember that? You're doing it right now."

Like Avis, you're gonna have to try harder.

Ya don't exactly bring out the best in people Opie, but I'm sure you've heard that lots of times before. :D

I've been hearing that America is going the way of Rome since I was a kid.

Hey, America doesn't get rebuilt into Rome in a day.

At the same time, I can see why people seem to think that. Whether they're right or wrong is another thing entirely, just that I can understand their concerns.

I wouldn't mind going the way of the Romans. This nifty histograph shows how dominant Rome was at its high point. That empire lasted over two millennia and was at its height for almost 600 years. The USA should be so lucky.

Double that if you count the continuation of the empire in the east. From around 200 BCE to 1050 CE, though there was a period in the later part where the Arabs and the Franks were ascendant before the eastern Romans regained some of their former glory.

Speaking of Big Brother

GOOGLE: If You Use Gmail, You Have 'No Legitimate Expectation Of Privacy'

If you happen to be one of the 400 million people who use Google's Gmail service for sending and receiving emails, you shouldn't have any expectation of privacy, according to a court briefing obtained by the Consumer Watchdog website.
In a motion filed last month by Google to have a class action complaint dismissed, Google's lawyers reference a 1979 ruling, holding that people who turn over information to third parties shouldn't expect that information to remain private.

From the filing (emphasis added):

Just as a sender of a letter to a business colleague cannot be surprised that the recipient’s assistant opens the letter, people who use web-based email today cannot be surprised if their communications are processed by the recipient’s ECS provider in the course of delivery. Indeed, “a person has no legitimate expectation of privacy in information he voluntarily turns over to third parties.” Smith v. Maryland, 442 U.S. 735, 743-44 (1979). In particular, the Court noted that persons communicating through a service provided by an intermediary (in the Smith case, a telephone call routed through a telephone company) must necessarily expect that the communication will be subject to the intermediary’s systems. For example, the Court explained that in using the telephone, a person “voluntarily convey numerical information to the telephone company and ‘expose’ that information to its equipment in the ordinary course of business.” Id. at 744 (emphasis added).

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

This is kinda funny:

South Carolina State Sen. Lee Bright (R) announced his U.S. Senate candidacy by calling incumbent Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) "a community organizer for the Muslim Brotherhood," the Columbia State reports.

Said Bright: "During the recess, when I would hope that he would be around folks in South Carolina, getting their feelings on so many issues that affect their lives, he has instead chosen to take his time to be a community organizer for the Muslim Brotherhood and that concerns me. He needs to spend more time listening to what the brothers in South Carolina have to say."

Lindsay Graham is a community organizer for the Muslim Brotherhood! Primary season is going to be nothing but non-stop laughs leading up to the 2014 elections. I can't wait to see what comes next. :D :D :D
