2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

Overall, I'm still cycling between denial, anger, bargaining, and depression. It's gonna be a few days until I've processed things.

I'm already at acceptance...in part because I have thought for a while she can win.

I also am on a trial forgiveness with some of the media. They get a week to show they can be adults now.

I’m at acceptance because it’s over and done with. That, and Biden clearly played a role in his stepping down. I agree with dx that this appears to be a masterstroke by a senile, addled brain. The fact Drew is saying we’re getting fu-ked means he’s getting fu-ked, and that’s just what this country needs right now.

I ventured over to the cesspool that is the social media platform formerly known as Twitter

the deplorables are trying to say she isn’t eligible because her parents were not citizens even though she was born in California.

they should totally focus their effort on that

I think the short answer is I think she’s pretty underwhelming. I am going to be a little bit irritated if she’s handed the nomination and doesn’t earn it. I completely disagree with that.

I definitely don’t want to see Trump return to power. There are legitimate reasons him having second term would be a disaster. With that being said if she wins via some backroom deal it isn’t ideal either.

Are people sure naming her the nominee even works legally?

At this point in the election cycle, with 100ish days to go until election day. What does "earning" a nomination vs being handed a nomination look like to you?

One possible silver lining in all of this? With Joe's age no longer an issue will the media finally move onto?:

1) Reminding the country of Trump's disastrous 1st term
2) That he barely has a platform of any kind and
3) The platform he does have is Project 2025 and fu**ing over the lower-middle class

We can hope so but I wouldn't hold my breath on it.

Lauren Boebert is demanding proof of life by 5:00pm today that Biden is alive and realizes that he's no longer the Democratic candidate for President. DEMANDING!!

I'm hoping Biden's announcement helps the Democratic candidate running to unseat lunatics like her.

DEMANDING!!

That's huge. All indications are that they do not get along. If she is endorsing that means the party is coming together instead of splitting apart and throwing the election to Orange ****.

Remember Biden didn't get along with Harris either during past primaries. In fact, his family didn't want to forgive and forget and originally pushed back on him picking Harris as his VP candidate in the first place.

True, but the reporting I heard said that they (Pelosi, Harris) still do not get along. Biden and Harris have long since buried the hatchet to the point where I believe they actually like each other.

My SO does that once a day to remember how awful it is...I think she is nuts ;)

ActBlue said as of 11:45am Eastern they had raised $84 million

Plus: https://www.threads.net/@politico/po...5XI3mnm6ujTfxw

Future Forward, the super PAC blessed by Biden, received $150 million in new commitments from major Dem donors in the 24 hours since the president announced he would step down.

The big donors are back.

Edit: ActBlue over $100 million...that means in 24 hours they raised a quarter of a billion between them :eek:

As far as VP, if it were me I'd pick Pete, but I'm biased. I caucused for him 4 years ago, would happily do so again, and I still think he'll make a great presidential nominee someday. But my god, as an attack dog VP, you really couldn't get any better as long as you let him off the leash.

Realistically, though, I think it's Shapiro's to lose. Even if VP's don't matter a whole lot in terms of actually bringing states or regions along with them, any marginal bonus in PA would be a godsend given that both sides have very few paths to victory without PA.

Mark Kelly is better off staying in the Senate and holding that seat, especially while Sinema's is still up in the air, and while I appreciate southern governors like Cooper and Brashear bucking geographic trends, they aren't going to bring their states with them and they're also better utilized as a check on their respective state legislatures than being a VP that doesn't do much else.

The problem Shapiro has is he is very similar to Biden on Israel policy. (Not cause he is Jewish) I agree is is probably the frontrunner but he has issues.

I also agree Pete is my dream VP.

I like Mayor Pete. He's really good when facing Fox's nonsense. But I think that consensus is about correct here. Shapiro or Kelly. I know the governor in AZ would simply replace Kelly with another D but how's the bench there, and who's ready - and able - to take on the MAGA garbage from Masters or Eva Bronze or whatever other ghoul they drum up?
