2024-25 Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State has set its spot for the AHA tournament, but Mercyhurst still has a fight on its hands for second place, so they'll be coming to play again today. With 9 available points left in the regular season, Mercyhurst is 6 points ahead of Syracuse for second place. Syracuse is 5 points up on RIT for third place, so those three are still fighting it out for tournament seeding.

Penn State is the only team in the country that is unbeaten in conference play, and they're one win away from setting the all-time conference record for wins.

No score after one at Penn State. Shots on goal are 10-6 for Penn State, and penalties are 2 for Penn State and 1 for Mercyhurst. Other than being scoreless, it looks like more of the same as yesterday, two very even teams going at it.

After two, Penn State is up 2-1 on goals from Maddy Christian and Tessa Janecke. Shots on goal are 22-12 for Penn State, and penalties are 4 for Penn State and 3 for Mercyhurst. Penn State had a lot of good looks in that period.

Mercyhurst snaps Penn State's perfect conference record by a score of 3-2. Shots on goal ended at 35-19 for Penn State, and penalties ended at 4 for Penn State and 3 for Mercyhurst. Mercyhurst came to play, and they did it for 60 minutes, so good on them.

Three out of four games were decided by one goal against Mercyhurst. That's a rivalry and the conference needs it.
If anyone was going to end Penn State's unbeaten record, it was going to be Mercyhurst. Get ready for more of the same from them come tournament time.

In the first game Desa got rocked early and then settled down. That was good to see in relation to mental toughness and locking it down for the rest of the game. The scoring for PSU in the first game were all greasy goals, at least the last three. In game two, Mercyhurst changed goalies and the scoring for PSU was more highlight reel type stuff including a shorty. I'm not sure what happened in game two as PSU was up 2-1. Mercyhurst's goal scorers were their top three scorers: Upson, Nuutinen and Scanlin.

Shots were heavily in favor of PSU. Is it time to dust off some different line combos or was this weekend a one off?

Hengelmuller did not suit up.

Janecke is a beast on faceoffs.

Congrats on the reg season championship Penn State fans. I watched for a few minutes yesterday and saw two goals including the Penn State shorty, grrr. Was glad to read Hurst got the win in the end. As Reddington said, lots of one goal games between these two.

Hard to believe it’s almost tournament time again.

Here we go, heading into the final AHA regular season weekend.

-- Penn State has locked in the top seed for the AHA tournament
-- Mercyhurst has locked in the #2 seed
-- There are 6 points left up for grabs, and Syracuse is currently in third place and 6 points up on RIT

The problem for RIT is that they have to sweep Penn State this weekend, in regulation time (no overtime), to catch Syracuse, who RIT has to hope will get swept in regulation time by Mercyhurst this weekend. If Syracuse gets any points (a win, or just getting into overtime), they secure the #3 seed for the tournament. If RIT loses either game against Penn State, or either game goes into overtime (regardless of who wins), they can't catch Syracuse.

With the top seed already set, Penn State still has something to play for this weekend. They are one win away from setting the all-time conference record for wins in a season.

Lindenwood and Robert Morris are firmly in the basement, but tied with each other, and funny enough they play each other to finish the regular season.

Lots of pertinent analysis Zed. Of course if PSU knocks off RIT, they win the right to face RIT again. Celeste has RIT playing pesky.

After one at RIT, Penn State is up 1-0 on a goal from Grace Outwater. Shots on goal are 14-5 for Penn State, and RIT took the only penalty. Penn State was buzzing in the first period, and RIT better be very thankful for having Sarah Coe in net. Penn State has Lauren Barbro in net today.

After two, Penn State is up 3-0 on goals from Lyndie Lobdell and Nicole Hall. Shots on goal are 34-8 for Penn State, and both teams have taken a penalty. So far it's been all Penn State.

RIT will have to switch things up for tomorrow's game for sure. Of course they could be playing possum and saving any extra stuff for next weekend....

And Penn State takes the first game by a score of 4-1, on a third period goal from Tiffany Hill. Shots on goal ended at 40-18 for Penn State, and penalties were 2 for Penn State and 1 for RIT. Not much to say about this one - it was all Penn State, except for a short stretch in the third where RIT got a little momentum after their goal.

The 2024-25 Penn State team is now the winningest in conference history.

30 wins would be gaudy! Tiffany Hill the grad fifth year scored her first goal. She has anchored the third line and received regular shifts. Grad Transfers should be taking notice: Correira, McKay, Brooks, the 6'2 Swede from LIU and the d from Clarkson have all received meaningful playing time.

Penn State and RIT are tied 1-1 after the first period, with Penn State's goal coming from Alyssa Machado. Shots on goal are even at 8-8, and RIT took 2 penalties to Penn State's 1.

Still tied 1-1 after two periods in a game that's getting pretty chippy. Shots on goal are 26-15 for Penn State, and both teams are up to 5 penalties each, including a 5 on 3 for RIT. Maddy Christian is out of the game on a major penalty.

Penn State gets the OT win on a goal from Leah Stecker. Shots on goal finished at 47-20 for Penn State, and penalties finished at 6 for RIT and 5 for Penn State.

OT winners from Garcia, Stecker and Roberts throughout the season. RIT played tough. The Bear sisters seem to be on a roll lately.
