2024-25 Penn State Nittany Lions

Syracuse split with Mercyhurst over the weekend and Lindenwood swept RMU.

It will be interesting to see first and second team AHA. 100 percent Janecke and Upson. Then you have all these girls fighting for 1st and 2nd team and depending on the politics and token players. It seems like a weak team even gets to send one player for the awards.

I think Roberts, Christian, Serala, Alvarez, Scanlin, Nuutinen, Nietzke, Brooks from PSU, Johnson from Mercyhurst and Giannone from RMU are all in the mix. Will Tatum White be rewarded for playing a fifth year in the conference?

Desa easily for goalie of the year. Second team will be a big ?, maybe Kelly from Syracuse, Coe from RIT or one of the two Mercyhurst goalies.

As far as D - either Lobdell or Butze and there is a good chance both and then ?. It is way to even for the rest and it should be interesting. I'm guessing a Mercyhurst D.

Rookie of the year will easily be Outwater. The frosh are in a tight pack after her.

RIT is pounding Lindenwood 4-0 and Syracuse is up 1-0 on Robert Morris. Nietzke and Kayla Bear, A defense player, finished the season strong and will play a part in the end of season awards. Machado should be in play for the most defensive forward. PSU will get RIT if they hold on. Kelly is pitching a shutout halfway through today.

Robert Morris ended up taking Syracuse into a second overtime before Syracuse won their game, and the overtimes were full 20-minute periods. Now Syracuse travels to Mercyhurst and RIT travels to Penn State in next weekend's AHA tournament semifinals. Unlike today's one-and-done games, next weekend's tournament semifinal games are best-of-three.

Interesting results, I thought Robert Morris would be heading for the bus before the game even started and Lindenwood would fight tooth and nail and it was the opposite.

AHA ALL-Conference Awards (so far):

All-AHA First Team
-- Tessa Janecke
-- Katelyn Roberts
-- Kendall Butze
-- Kate Desa

All-AHA Second Team
-- Maddy Christian
-- Lyndie Lobdell

All-AHA Rookie Team
-- Grace Outwater
-- Grace Tullock

The AHA conference tournament semifinals begin today, with #4 RIT at #1 Penn State and #3 Syracuse at #2 Mercyhurst. Both series are best-of-three, which I love because it gets the best two teams into the championship, a lot more accurately than a one-off game does. I'd love to see the championship be a best-of-three for the same reason.

Syracuse at Mercyhurst is going to be a fun one to watch. Mercyhurst went 3-1 vs Syracuse this season, and Mike Sisti always has his team ready for the tournament, but Syracuse seems to do the same. In a best-of-three series, though, this should be Mercyhurst's ticket to the championship game next weekend.

RIT smoked Lindenwood in their quarterfinal game last weekend (I know, I know, "It's Lindenwood"), and had their best season in a decade this year. Penn State needs to stay out of the penalty box, because RIT's powerplay is the best in the AHA, second in the nation in powerplay goals, and fourth in the nation in powerplay percentage. RIT always hits the ice ready, especially this year, but if Penn State plays their game and stays on the gas as usual, I think they will wear down RIT in the end.

Addie Alvarez and one of the Bear sisters from RIT could have easily received 1st or second team and will have extra motivation to show people that they were overlooked. Penn State is getting production out of four lines so that bodes well. The Player of the Year, the frosh of the year and coach of the year have yet to be announced. The frosh of the year is going to be between PSU and Mercyhurst.

Hall has moved to Brooks' line, Christian to Hill's line and Retrum is now with Walsh. A little shake up on the lines to throw Celeste Off? Interesting to say the least.

I just woke up (don't ask...hahaha), so I missed the entire game and will have to watch a replay in a bit.

Penn State took game one 3-2, but look at Syracuse...they beat Mercyhurst 1-0 today...ouch.

Penn State almost let that one get away from them, but man...what a start to the game. Tessa Janecke scored something like 16 seconds into the game, then scored another in the first, and then Maddy Christian scored her fourth short-handed goal of the season in the second period. Credit to RIT for keeping it coming for 60 minutes, and thanks go to the crossbar for keeping the tying goal out.

The Syracuse vs Mercyhurst game surprised me, and now Syracuse is a game away from the championship next weekend...wow.

20 blocks for RIT, 13 for PSU. Boy if PSU does not get that early goal......

The Power Play needs to convert one tomorrow.

After one, Penn State leads RIT by a score of 2-0. The goal scorers might not be accurate, but the stats have Maddy Christian and Leah Stecker scoring, when the game video looked like McKenna Walsh and Brianna Brooks scoring. Whatever, it's 2-0. No penalties, and shots on goal are 16-4 for Penn State, and the whole period was all Penn State.

On a sidenote, I didn't know freshman defender Grace Tullock is also on the Penn State women's lacrosse team.

After two, it's still 2-0, with only 5 shots on goal in the second period for each team, and still no penalties in the game...well, none called, anyway.

Janecke had one and it was challenged and Celeste keeps RIT in the game...for now. Mercyhurst is pounding Syracuse 4-0.

Penn State wins the series with a 4-0 victory, with third period goals from Tessa Janecke and Abby Stonehouse. Shots on goal were 27-11 for Penn State, and Janecke took the only penalty of the game. RIT may not be there yet, but Celeste Brown is really turning them around.

Mercyhurst beat Syracuse today, so those two will head to a game three tomorrow to see who faces Penn State in the AHA championship game.

That's impressive in wins! The band definitely makes a difference on atmosphere. I like the double shifting as the two sets of wings are dangerous with Janecke for sure. Desa with a shutout is phenomenal. I think PSU has the best numbers for attendance in the East.
