2023 - 2024 SEASON : Boston College

I can’t envision a single scenario where BC doesn’t win this thing. Congrats on #6!

I can if BC plays sloppy again

MTU if they converted on their chances in first 2 periods it’s a different game

Sunday will be no easier vs Quinnipiac or Wisconsin

And yet they always pull away in the third. The sign of a great team.

As a complete aside, Colby Cohen not knowing how to pronounce a bunch of BC player's names was incredibly embarrassing. His lack of knowledge on the way BC actually plays and just making stuff up was so bizarre

The first 30 seconds were great after that the first two periods were really bad. They were throwing the puck around like they were drunk. Perreault's penalty was really dumb, no excuse, that is the second game in a row for a 5 minute major. No need for that type of play, playing with fire. The fisticuffs in the third just fueled the offense. They played the third like the BC team we know and love, even with the jumbled lines they just overwhelmed MTU. ON to Sunday.

One and done I don’t think either team has an advantage in a neutral site

Hopefully BC has better start Sunday because MTU could have been up 3-1 early in the game but couldn’t capitalize on their chances

Just win and advance even if it’s an ugly tight game

It’s not over

all you need is one loss and you’re out of frozen four and no longer in the conversation

Both teams will be rested with a day off and no time to let up and make horrendous plays and mistakes which could happen

BU will have their matchup with Minnesota again and BC will play the Q a second time this year

No one is entitled

You have to prove it on the ice one game at a time until the job is done

There are no bragging rights for second place

Those first two periods were ugly as boiled sin. The key was of course killing off the five minute major where Fowler and the penalty killer bailed Perreault out of his stupidity. Then they mashed on the accelerator in the third. Quinnipiac is a whole different ball of wax. If they play the first two periods tomorrow like they did yesterday, they won't be pulling away in the third, they'll be frantically trying to come back in the third against one of the best defensive teams in the NCAA. If anyone thinks BC is going to score 4 goals in a period against Quinnipiac, they are tripping on acid.

Well that was interesting. Generally speaking don’t like the matchup with QU but we owe them badly for 2016 and I’d like to make them pay that debt this year.

Fowler is the one.

QU looked great in first period, not so much after that. Also benefited from the officiating. BC is better team but they are all tough at this point. Often a coin flip. Play like they did for first two periods against Tech and there will be trouble. How about actually getting in on a forecheck and making things difficult for opponent. Want to see more of that.

Fowler, Leonard and Malone were terrific. Malone a huge factor in 2nd and 3rd goals to open the game up.

Leonard with a tremendous all around play on 4th goal.

I’m worried about faceoffs being a real issue against QU. And you know Coach Peckerhead will be berating the refs all night. It’s amazing to watch him in person, this guy wakes up and lives to work the refs all game long. I’ve never seen anything like it.

In general Michigan Tech FAFO’d yesterday and played stupid games and won their stupid prize. Defensemen constantly getting involved resulted in some good sustained offense but led to many odd man breaks for BC. Sometimes it works out but with BC able to transition like they can it usually doesn’t end well. It didn’t end well.

Fowler was terrific, as was Malone, Leonard, Jellvik, Cutter, and Powell.

Loved the game from Ambrosio as well. Should have been awarded a penalty shot.

Perreault hit was bad. MTU hit later was worse and predatory IMO. Killing the major was a huge turning point obviously. Crazy but… BC played better without #34. His time out of the lineup worked out as the team had experience with this.

It’s interesting watching the clips of the goals and how they developed.

Cutter right off the bat on his first goal managed to outrace and outmuscle #11 who went in desperation mode and tried and all-or-nothing turn into him and Cutter fought through it (along with the hook after he got the puck) to get position and bury it.

Leonard’s first was hilarious, he had so much room to wind up behind his net he actually adjusts his elbow pad while skating up the ice with the puck. Seriously go back and rewatch it.

The third goal was another huge play by Malone who closed an entire zone of ice on the MTU defender to win the race (and maybe negate icing?), managed to come out of the corner with the puck with speed and then a tic tac toe play for the Joyce goal. Another huge part in this game.

Leonard’s second was pure filth and the second Cutter one was hilarious as 3 MTU guys all pursued Jellvik while Cutter snuck behind them all.

Leonard was immense from what I saw - the guy just plays a very complete game. Starting to think he is the most NHL ready of the trio. Hopefully the Capitals agree :-)

Face offs have been BC's weak spot being just under 50% (49.9%) 36th for the season. Quinnipiac is #3 at 55% so that certainly is an issue. Despite all his other talents being over the top Will Smith is only at 43.8% on faceoffs. Maybe he could stay another year at BC to perfect that as well!! As for coaches with Pecknold's behind the bench demeanor with the referees, put him in the same category as Jack Parker, Shawn Walsh and Greg Carvel. They are(were) all excellent head coaches but have truly annoying badgering the referees attitudes. It is not the correct way to win games, but it may work in their favor at times with getting calls.

Agree AMbrosio deserved a penalty shot, Leonard was crossed checked after he put in the first one and then again cross checked into the net just before Perreault's penalty. They were after Leonard all game long but he scored twice. Jellevik is a very underrated forward, high hockey IQ, great vision and very soft hands. You cannot sleep on him.

Jellvik and Malone are both instrumental to team’s success. Jellvik would double his goal scoring if he played with a “playmaking” type center..That may happen next season when Hagens arrives from USNDT. He is a very good passer and fore-checker as well. Malone has played great whether on first line (start of season) or 3rd line. He excels at every facet, tremendous forechecker, physical, tenacious and can score and dish.
