2023 - 2024 SEASON : Boston College

Not so sure they should rest anyone except if they are nursing injuries. BC only has 1 game that final weekend so that alone gives players some rest. I would be more concerned about getting rusty with 2 weeks off. The only other Hockey East teams with one game that weekend are UConn, Northeastern and Merrimack and all 3 of them will be playing a play in game the following week so BC will be the only team with one game in 2 weeks anyway.

I am thinking in one and done format you can’t relax too much. Coming into the Beanpot they were an obvious favorite and done again with no Beanpot. That should be a lesson for the team and coaching staff.

It’s been a long spell not winning anything. 12 years since the last NCAA and about 8 for a Beanpot. It’s trophy hunting time and they should be hungry enough and NOT take any shift off.

in the NCAA tournament you will not get away with playing well part of the game and get away with it like the UNH game where UNH should have won and BC’s skill level got away with a win.

Let’s not forget what Colorado College did when they ambushed a very good BC team and count how many goals BC allowed against them in a blowout. BC could not recover in that game. They were blitz early and often.

Perreault is out again according to the line chart I saw. Hopefully they are just giving him a little more time to heal.

I was listening to game in Bordeaux and happy they pulled it off against a tough UNH team. One more and let’s keep that streak going against MC next Saturday

Props to UNH, they played a good game, outshot BC again. Fowler was stellar, not a lot of great saves but he was solid. No grease on Powells goal. Nice to score the GWG on Senior night, good for him. COme back next year and we will cheer for you like crazy. Congrats to all the Eagles to be the undisputed RS champs. Hope their are more trophies to come.

OK everyone take a deep breath. Not playing great hockey but still winning games in the toughest conference... without two normal starters (one who led the country in scoring before being injured). This really should lock up the #1 in PWR in all likelihood as well if it wasn't already.

Rest all critical players in this Merrimack game. Korec in net. Let Perreault heal up now until mid-March for round 2. Do we have any info on Will Vote?

Tell ya what, proud moment for Powell, brilliant goal on senior night. You have to respect that these guys aren't dominating but are battling and battling. The blocked shots tonight were something else. I've never seen a BC team block the amount of shots this year's team has. Posma looked like he was done after eating a puck and came back. They were all taking pucks like it was Game 7. You better respect that.

Fowler was huge once again. How about Cutter going OVER the crossbar by a hair on the empty net. WOW.

At this point, hit the reset button and get ready to do big things in the postseason where we truly measure success for this program.

Fowler was the best player on the ice. It was a good thing, because he needed to be. BC played the first two periods last night like they were disinterested, almost as if they didn't realize that hey, if they lost the last two games, BU could still win the league. Glad they won, glad it's behind them, just need them to understand we are approaching nut-cutting time, so it's time to crank the intensity back up and play up to their capabilities.

Playoffstatus has BC 97% likely to get the top seed. CHN asleep at the switch with their probability matrix.

They only play one game this week so no need to rest anybody as they get rest anyway. If they lose to Merrimack and another loss early in the tournament they could fall to the third overall seed if BU and either North Dakota or Denver win their tournaments and their remaining league games. Don't take any chances. Should BC beat Merrimack and any of those other teams lose this week it may be time to knot up the #1 overall. The number one seed likely plays a PWR in the 30's the #2 a team in the 20's and the #3 gets Michigan as it stands now. Need I say more.

Fun Fact for the Day:
In the 9 seasons since 1997-1998 that BC has had a 30-goal scorer, they have gone to the Frozen Four 8 times, producing 6 title game appearances and 3 titles. The one outlier was 2010-2011 with perhaps BC's most stacked team dropping the recently mentioned stunner to Colorado College in the first round.

Cutter makes it 10 and we'll how this team does.

- 1997-1998 Gionta & Reasoner
- 1998-1999 Farkas
- 1999-2000 Farkas & Gionta
- 2000-2001 Gionta
- 2005-2006 Collins
- 2007-2008 Gerbe
- 2009-2010 Atkinson
- 2010-2011 Atkinson
- 2013-2014 Gaudreau

Interestingly the 2012 championship team did not have a 30-goal scorer but almost the entire team made it to the NHL and had 7 guys with 10+ goals. This year's team could match that if Malone can get one more goal as he currently has 9.

INJURY AVOIDANCE.

The chances of BC not getting the top seed is basically 0% at this point. There are only so many games left to be played and the RPI gap is just too large (more than .0200) to get through for a multitude of reasons (lack of road games in the playoffs for all 3 teams to bump RPI 1.2 weighting for road wins and for BU the theoretical early BC flameout you speak of prevents the H2H matchup where BU could get a huge bonus win boost plus even out the H2H in PWR).

As such I don't think you'll see the top guys sit unless they are banged up, but I certainly wouldn't expect to see Fowler in the game nor would I expect to see any of the top 4 or 5 guys getting a lot of ice time 5x5. They probably won't be laying out eating pucks either.

Unless some underdog wins a tournament the top 2 seeds get the CCHA and AHA champions. The 14 seed is likely to be a very strong opponent compared to them. So theoretically being #1 or #2 is a huge difference from #3 so BC should not even be concerned with a #2 position. As for falling they likely do fall a spot if they lose the next 2 games because either North Dakota or Denver winning out would surpass them in RPI and BC's loss to Denver helps North Dakota as well. The NCHC plays a best of 3 quarterfinals giving them an extra game to build on RPI as well. I forgot about the advantage of the extra win over BU so BU's chances of overtaking BC is slimmer but BU would surpass BC in RPI in the aforementioned scenario but may also in PWR if BC loses a PWR point to the NCHC champion. The odds of that happening are very low but not that low if BC loses the next 2 games. The reason I mentioned Michigan is because the 4th 1 seed is likely to be either Michigan State or Wisconsin because both North Dakota and Denver cannot win out and a B1G match up will not happen so the 3 seed would get Michigan even if they are 13th not 14th in a perfect pairing. Michigan has McGroarty, Casey, Brindley, Nazar, Duke and Hughes that offensively matches up with anybody. They like BC have 4 with 40 or more points. Denver is the only other school with more than one 40 point scorer having 3.

There could be league conflicts involving #14 St. Cloud. They are in the NCHC with #3 North Dakota and #4 Denver, thus would need to be swapped into another bracket. They would probably be slotted into the #15 position vs #2 BU in Springfield. Putting #12 UMass into Springfield could affect #9 Maine and #10 Providence, too. This could be resolved or further complicated pending this weeks results.

Pretty sure we’re all amused at BU getting tossed an L and having to head west cuz of UMass on the 4 line; another L (call it 3 LLL’s) would be having to face St Cloud instead of AH/CCHA

With Merrimack locked into either the 11th or 12th spot in Hockey East (unfortunately Lowell has the tiebreaker on Merrimack so there's no way to know until the Saturday games start to be played), and no idea of how possible matchups will shake out ahead of them, do they really have anything to play for on Saturday night either? Seems like neither team has much to gain in this one.

So should one of them just forfeit the game! Merrimack has much to gain besides momentum going into the playoffs. How about knocking off the best team in the country. If you ever played any sport, you go all out in your last game to prevent from ending in last place. Perhaps you never played on a last or next to last place team.

motivated me to take a swing through the record books.

cutter at 29 goals, a hot month could make a run at most in a season (38) most as a SO: 34

unsurprisingly the FR line is doing work on the freshman records.
Goals: 30 - Gionta (Leonard currently at 23 - 5th, passed Johnny).
Assists: 44 - Hodge (Gabe at 35 - 4th, Smith at 34 - 5th)
Points: 64 - Hodge (Smith at 51 - 4th, Gabe at 50 - 6th)

This post motivated me to head over to the BU record book. Some fun findings:

- The current BU head coach scored 38 goals his Senior year. (Tying Chris Drury who scored 38 his junior season.)
- These two Terrier Hall of Famers came nowhere NEAR the single season record. Wanna guess the #..... (I'll wait ... ) Answer below
- Jack Eichel had 71 points as a freshman
- Shawn McEachern had 82 points as a Junior
- John Cullen had 241 points for a 4-year career

Answer: Jack Garrity - 51 goals in the 1949-1050 season (Bob Marques is next with 41 goals in the 1959-1959 season)

Have fun with Merri-hack!

As much as I despise BU, I think I hate that rule more. Who gives a crap if you’re the “host” school. Send 4th seed teams to Siberia for all I care. They prioritize 4th seeds wayyy too much. Providence has played at the Providence regional the past 4 times they’ve been a 4 seed, it’s wild
