2023 - 2024 SEASON : Boston College

Fun Fact for the Day:
Not surprisingly, Cutter has seen his production go up after coming back from WJC (or simply being relieved of the general stench that is Philadelphia sports following his trade on 1/8/2024). The two events coincide but anyway, knuckledraggers from Philly will be sad to see his 32% increase in point production after the trade.

16-9-25 in 14 GP 1.79 PPG
13-10-23 in 17 GP 1.35 PPG

Not bad.

motivated me to take a swing through the record books.

cutter at 29 goals, a hot month could make a run at most in a season (38) most as a SO: 34

unsurprisingly the FR line is doing work on the freshman records.
Goals: 30 - Gionta (Leonard currently at 23 - 5th, passed Johnny).
Assists: 44 - Hodge (Gabe at 35 - 4th, Smith at 34 - 5th)
Points: 64 - Hodge (Smith at 51 - 4th, Gabe at 50 - 6th)

Unless my math is wrong, and this seems pretty simple so I hope not, but it seems like BC's magic number is 5 for the #1 seed in the league and a RS co-championship (at minimum) and a magic number of 6 for outright HE RS championship.

Nice W against a UNH team that wouldn't go quietly. Interesting night scoreboard watching in Hockey East.

Cutter up to 31 goals... Jesus. 3 pts tonight. Is he going to win the Hobey?

Sideline reporter said Perreault may be back Sunday. I don't know if you roll the dice without him or bring him back if he's ok. A sweep on Sunday all but assures that the Merrimack game would be meaningless in every way (PWR included) and essentially they could rest Fowler and anyone else they want for basically two weeks with the first round bye the next week.

Sunday is a trophy game.

I was curious about that, whether they could actually wrap up #1 overall before that Merrimack game. Being able to rest some guys in that game would be ideal. I knew tonight would be a tough game. Didn't play their best and still get the W. If you're curious:

Providence:

1. BC (1)
2. Quinnipiac (8)
3. Maine (9)
4. Bemidji State(16)

Springfield:

1. BU (2)
2. Minnesota (7)
3. Massachusetts (10)
4. Western Michigan (14)

Sioux Falls:

1. North Dakota (3)
2. Wisconsin (6)
3. St. Cloud State (12)
4. RIT (15)

Missouri:

1. Michigan State (4)
2. Denver (5)
3. Providence (11)
4. Colorado College (13)

Smith, Perreault, Gauthier are 1,2,3 nationally in points.
Smith, Perreault are 1,2 nationally in assists.
Gauthier, Leonard are 1,3 nationally in goals.

Just incredible.

I only saw the last 8 minutes but what an 8 minutes. Gauthier has become a big time player. The pass to Leonard was just terrific, right on the tape, boom it is in the net. He is playing at a level above his opponents, there are flashier players like Perreault, there are more aggressive grittier players like Leonard but Gauthier is a 200 foot intelligent unselfish player, with great passing skills and a lethal shot. This was a game I was worried about, they took UHN's best shot and had enough to win on their ice. Good win, keep it up.

Not so sure they should rest anyone except if they are nursing injuries. BC only has 1 game that final weekend so that alone gives players some rest. I would be more concerned about getting rusty with 2 weeks off. The only other Hockey East teams with one game that weekend are UConn, Northeastern and Merrimack and all 3 of them will be playing a play in game the following week so BC will be the only team with one game in 2 weeks anyway.

Rest vs Rust is the ultimate sports debate I think. Either way, it's not even about that. You simply don't put the top guys in harm's way. Maybe you dress them but ultimately give them PP time and shifts here and there sparingly to mitigate risk. I'm not worried about rust with a healthy roster. The freshman line could get stranded on an island and return after 6 months and still be locked in.

I feel like last night was big for the Hobey for Cutter. It should be his to lose now. Not only did he do his normal thing with the faceoff shot snipe in the blink of an eye, but the drive to the net wraparound goal looked effortless and his brilliant pass for the GWG shows that he's more well-rounded than just a shooter, which he is known for.

If the final regular-season game is inconsequential, I would minimize the ice time for anyone nursing an injury, if for no other reason than Merrimack's knack for goonery.

I've been on the Cutter Hobey train for a few weeks now, my only concern is him splitting votes with Smith and Perrault plus some members on the committee will probably make something up about sportsmanship because he asked for a trade

He may split some votes but I'm not sure he should. He hasn't had the luxury of playing on a line with any of those guys till recently. Jellvik, Malone, Gasseau are good complimentary pieces but Gauthier is the driving force. His game has really taken off and he's become more of an all around player. Tough loss for the Flyers!

What is his obligation to the Flyers ? They drafted him because they thought he was the best player available at the time. He didn't sign a contract and he didn't accept any money from them. He put on a Flyers jersey on Draft Day, that is abut it. Some think the Flyers made out well with the defensemen they got in trade. Everyone move on. He had two shots on net last night, both of them went in. There are a number of really terrific candidates out there and now is the time of year in which the winner needs to get the voters attention. CG is doing it right now, if he is not the best two way player in college hockey he is right up there with the best. His second goal was in the net two seconds after the puck drop, perfect draw by Smith and a laser shot by Gauthier. Impressive. The USA line can stay another year and fight it out for the Hobey, that will be interesting.
