2022 Frozen Four

The same play-by-play guy as last year, and AJ in the booth. And they added Hilary Knight at ice level. She was good with player point-of-view stuff, but got in the way of play-by-play a bit.

Similar reaction to Hilary. For a first time out it was excellent, but she talked enough that it suggests color and not in between the benches is where she might be best. I’m sure it’s an nhl game tryout for her; in that arena maybe they do want her in between the benches.

One challenge with Hilary working for ESPN is that she is a pw person and ESPN airs PHF. She’s going to need to figure out how to navigate that. Something I like about folks like Mleckzko and Small is they are really there to lift up everyone in women’s hockey, while Knight is advancing the game a different way. Curious if the pro games get any mention this weekend - last year they did.

Most of these tournament games are overproduced. Maybe I just think that because I grew up listening to Al Shaver announce North Stars games by himself, and he didn't get distracted by talking about who he saw in the hotel lobby or what happened 25 years ago. We're all watching because we care about this game right here, right now. Just tell us what is happening in this game, and we can google later to find out all kinds of trivia facts.

Definitely a chance; this is hockey. OSU isn't unbeatable, but they're a good team. Is this about 65/35 maybe? I don't know enough about Yale to really say.

OSU was just so dominant last week against a team that Yale lost to 3 times this year.

Anything can happen in hockey but this ones a lot more stacked in one teams favor than the opener.

100%. All done in good intentions, but best is to just call the game.

unconventional and not something you’d need to do in men’s sports but maybe steer people to where they can learn more via the written word if you want them to get that history. Educate people that a team page is a great starting point. Put some Twitter handles up there or something. And then just call the game at hand.

They didn't seem so dominant while Quinnipiac was ringing the post in OT... :-)

Do I hear an Amen?

What an embarrassingly low turnout for Frozen Four games! I've never seen a FF game east of the Mississippi well attended. That includes St Charles, MO, which was a drive from MSP, but the crappy arena there was mostly full. What's wrong with the Eastern fans? Even their home regular-season numbers aren't that good. Even Northeastern at 4th averages under 600 fans/game, after WI, MN, and UMD.

To be precise, St Charles is west of the Mississippi. Not by much, but still.

It's geography class time: can we really say DECC and Amsoil are either? 'north of' maybe... :-)
Yes, Duluth is much more East of the Mississippi than Ridder and Mariucci are; those you could claim are more north than east.

OK, I had made an equally embarrassing miscalculation in my geography, misplacing a river I drive across and all around daily in the effort to make a point. Busted. And I'm usually a geography star. But the point is still to be made, despite me playing Paul Bunyan and rearranging the Mississippi.

Geography aside, OSU tied the game at 1-1 on a PP, and has taken a 2-1, second-period lead.

I thought Quinnipiac was pretty good. But then, Clarkson brought in a lot of fans making it to the final game.

EDIT: I looked it up on collegehockeystats.net. Attendance is listed at 3573, a sellout. (Though, I don't remember all the seats being filled. But I do remember a good crowd.)

I mean doesn't the Mississippi curve such that the headwaters is more to the west, middle of the state? Up there at least, it isn't the same clearly defined east-west border it is once you get to Iowa, etc. Does it go far enough north to be 'even' with Duluth?
