2022 Beijing Olympics: Don't Mention the Slaves

Either the U.S. doesn't impress me or Team USA/Canada 2 ... ummm ... China is better than we thought.

Well, it’s a sort of World Juniors team that’s been together a couple weeks against a KHL team that’s essentially been the same for 2-3 seasons now. China at least has a leg up in the chemistry department.

If there were NHLers I think the US would’ve been up 3-0 in the first ten minutes or so. The US was dominating pretty early but just didn’t have the accuracy on shots.

True enough.

Team USA is starting to wake up now.

Pretty darned awake. The passing rate really was picked up, and the resulting pressure has been impressive. Still can be better.

BTW, I think I would label them "China"- given so many other countries are being represented. It's pretty funny to read the stats page on the olympics website- they are chinese versions of the original name. Like Jake Chelios is Jieke Kailiaosi.

I was exaggerating a bit when I said the US and Canada could put up 20 back when the NHLers were going, but I don’t think that’s hyperbole anymore. They would’ve had a great chance at it.

I have a vent, since i know it's going to happen. Just turned it over to the end of the Canada-Germany game, and the announcers have already mentioned the 4 of the top 5 draft picks will be in the US-Canada game.

Can we find something more interesting to talk about? It got old to hear about in the 2nd period of the first game I watched this past fall.

did you hear that Mikaela Schiffren fell twice in a row?

Honestly, I’m wondering what Germany puts on them at this point. Could be 12+.

When did the IIHF add the trapezoid behind the net? Or is that an Olympics only thing?

I know the narrower, North American sized rink is something they’re pushing and the KHL has started adopting.

Well, my Japanese ladies made two horrendous errors and ended up losing to Sweden 8-5. In the sixth, they had an open house and only had to put one in the center to walk away with a point, and I don't know what they were trying to do, but they missed it, and gave Sweden three instead.

And in the ninth, all they had to do was blast the one Swedish rock out of the house and they could have scored four and tied the match, but they didn't hit it hard enough and only ended up with one.

Did you know Drew Commesso is the youngest player ever to start in goal for the US in the Olympics? If that was a drinking game, taking a drink every time they said that, you would be drunk by the end of the first period.

Jesus fucking Christ. What are these refs in the US China game watching? Two or three malicious hits in the first five minutes.

Japanese snowboarder just landed a triple cork (a triple flip with rotation), somehow was judged into 2nd and the NBC commentator is raging at the judges right now.
