Re: 2017 MLB Season - The Goat Memorial Thread

The Dodger lineup should pay for Hill's hookers and blow for a month.
Maybe one of the worst managerial decisions of all time. There was no point to it.

The Dodgers were the visiting team. They didn't score in the 10th, which meant there was no point in sending Hill out in the bottom of the inning. He had pitched something like two nine inning games in his career, and even if he ran through the Pirates in the 10th, he was going to have to come back out in the 11th (assuming the Dodgers scored then) if he wanted to throw a no-hitter.

Really? All-time worst decision? Not much hyperbole there...

I'm sure this will more than make up for 200-minute long games.

Also, I finally get to see the Metsies tonight and Conforto breaks his arm on a swing. :(

Gregorius safe at first on error by shortstop Segura, Sánchez to third, Judge to second.
Headley grounded into fielder's choice to third, Sánchez scored, Judge safe at third on error by third baseman Seager, Gregorius to second.
T. Frazier struck out swinging.
Ellsbury doubled to left, Judge and Gregorius scored, Headley to third. Headley scored on error by shortstop Segura.Ellsbury to third on throwing error by shortstop Segura.
Torreyes reached on infield single to third, Ellsbury scored.

Re: 2017 MLB Season - The Goat Memorial Thread

I haven't seen a middle infielder like Jean Segura struggle so bad in a game since Mr. "Can't spell Rickie Weeks without three E's and two K's."

The best Hoskins stat:

In just 18 games he already has 1.2 WAR, or 8 percent of Ryan Howard’s career total (14.9) over 1,572 games.

A year ago, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts took a lot of flack for pulling Ross Stripling in the 8th despite the fact that Stripling had no hitter going in his MLB debut, and despite the fact that no player has thrown a no hitter in their debut since 1892. Stripling reached his scheduled 100 pitches though, and that was it. Incidentally, his relief proceeded to give up a 2 run shot and the Dodgers lost.

Hill had less than 100 when he came back out. Interesting to know if Roberts would have pulled him for pitch count or if he would have let him go back out if they held and the Dodgers had taken the lead. With luck Hill could have probably finished the game in the neighborhood of 120-125, which isn't a huge number, although it is pretty high these days.

Buxton named AL player of the week and what a week it was. 5 homers, 10 RBI, 9 runs, 1.161 ops, and a .333 average.
