Verlander gonna Verlander in an Astro uniform now.

Deal done at 11:59 pm.

Re: 2017 MLB Season - The Goat Memorial Thread

It's been quite a ****ed up last hour.

The deal needed to get done by midnight EDT, so that the acquiring team could use him in the postseason. The deal was originally vetoed by Verlander sometime around 11:15 or so. But then shortly after midnight, all of Twitter blew up saying that the deal had indeed been done.

Re: 2017 MLB Season - The Goat Memorial Thread

It was nixed, then approved. Totally effed up. But apparently it's a done deal. Verlander to HOU.

Re: 2017 MLB Season - The Goat Memorial Thread

I'd choose the Twins, don't get me wrong. Hometown team in MLB always gets that vote of approval.

Me too. Now had the Cubs not won it last year it would of been tougher going for the home team but still would of.

Re: 2017 MLB Season - The Goat Memorial Thread

There has been a lot of talk about how the Angels and Astros are now primed for the stretch run. Don't get me wrong, they certainly made their squads better, but how bad are the Tigers going to be in September? The Twins play Detroit 7 times (including the final weekend of the season), so, perhaps in a twist of fate, the Twins may be the biggest beneficiary of Detroit's August fire sale.

For people who like prop bets, will the Tigers have more wins in September than the Royals scored runs in the last week of August (7)? I'll start it at Yes (-205) and No (+175). :p:D:D

Re: 2017 MLB Season - The Goat Memorial Thread

A world series with about 8 viewers.

Keep in mind that the 3 most watched baseball games in the last 30 years featured the Twins (Game 7 - 1991 World Series: 50m Viewers; Game 6 - 1991 World Series: 41m Viewers) or the Cubs (Game 7 - 2016 World Series: 40m Viewers).

So yeah...probably more than 8 would tune in. ;)

Game 7s will always draw well.

The Cubs became boring the instant they won, like the Red Sox.

I don't get the '91 Game 6 though. Must have been up against reruns of Wopner.

The problem is the other non-contending teams will be playing 40-man kids for looksies, so there are going to be a lot of other really bad lineups run out there. The current Mets lineup could not credibly compete against most AAA teams for a full season, and somehow they're still beating teams about 30% of the time.

I predict the Tigers will f-ck it up and win 12 games in September.

Well, Game 7s of those series outdrew Game 7s featuring San Francisco, Los Angeles (Anaheim), and New York.

I wouldn't just attribute it to Game 7s either. The two biggest draws on average for the World Series in last 30 years were 1991 (Twins vs. Braves) and 1987 (Twins vs. Cardinals).

So yeah...probably more than 8 would tune in. ;)

True...although the Twins play only 16 of their remaining 29 games against teams still in contention (read: within 5 games of the Wild Card).

The Angels play 21 (of 28), the Yankees play 23 (of 29), the Orioles play 20 (of 28), the Rays play 24 (of 27), the Rangers play 19 (of 29), the Mariners play 22 (of 28), and the Royals play 15 (of 30).

Advantage Minnesota.

A world series with about 8 viewers.

1987 and 1991 are 2nd and 3rd all time for average viewers. WS Ratings History

Now there's been a steady decline since the mid-90's so it's hard to say, but most of the 80's saw high ratings to offer up competition.
